transalp, 30 minute ride, rev drop and cutout, any ideas???

Hi, after 30 minutes of riding, highway or secondary road, engine hot, when i come to a standstill, she slows in revs and will inevitably cutout, if i don't rev or keep her up above 1000 rpm with hand on the throttle.

It used to idle all the time, rain or shine.
I'm thinking it's the air fuel mix, maybe the screw is too tight or too loose as not enough or too much air is mixing at a standstill.

But its funny how you can hear it slowing down and getting really slow until well it's gonna cut.

Any ideas about this one, thanks fellow riders.

What Transalp ??

Does it idle fine when you first start her up ???

Eg. Can you start the bike on the choke then take the choke off and leave her ticking away on the driveway etc ??

Have you tried something simple as just increasing the idle a little ?

Probably choke related, if it's not the cables themselves, then the springs & radius tubes at the carb end of the cable.

Hi, sorry I took so long to answer, it's a 2004 TA, yes it idles fine when i start her up, I don't use choke havent done in a year and a half.
I have increased the idle, only solution, it seems to be doing the trick.

But I think that there is still something because When she's hot, she still wants to cut. anyway, it's running that's the main thing.

Cheers

Hej,

sounds like a wrong mixture. Check spark plugs first, the colour should give the first step towards a solution. Both cylinders same colour? Dark plugs?

An easy thing is just to pull the choke when the hot engine is idling.
If it dies the mixture will probably be too fat, if it runs even better it is too low.

If it is too fat: check air cleaner, carb. floater level, carb. balancing, also you never use it - check choke funktion
If it is too low: check all intake rubbers and connections, any aftermarket exhaust mounted?

Good luck and - as I saw in another thread - happy holidays in Scandinavia

Uwe

I agree....

had exactly the same problem on my transalp. Cleaned the choke-handle, and cable...... problem solved!!
