Heated Grips for R80 GS / R100 GS
Hello everybody, Intended to buy heated grips for my R80 GS, failed as BMW importer doesn't have and import this stuff for my old bike of 1996. Can anyone explain how to make it myself as it is not difficult if I can find the needed parts myself told by friends  Thanks a lot, Samy

That was a very complicated description...
Drill a hole in the handlebar between the mounts on the steeringhead. Put a rubber cable/wire protetion in the hole to protect the cables/wires. Roll the electrical heat-films inside the handlebars - see the pics on how to do it on the RT mirrors. Ýou will have to "splice" the cables/wires since they are a bit short - solder the connections, cover with plastic shink-tube to ensure best isolation. I use 15w on the left handlebar and 20W on the right - recommended by MC-Proffsen Ltd in Hägersten, Stockholm. Works best so - the isolation on by the gas-roll requires higher temp. It does take a little bit longer to get the handles warm compared to if one dabbles with the wires on the outside of the grips. No wires on the outside of the handle-bar (RThandle-bar, maybe not applicable on the GS?...) - ensures a minimum of problems -  Put a switch where handy for you, prefereable a on-off-on 2-pole switch. See enclosed diagram for connection. Something like this is what I use: Conrad Artikelnummer: 189257 20W Artikelnummer: 189230 15W Artikelnummer: 701028 on-off-on (screw attachment - what I use) Artikelnummer: 701024 on-off-on (flat press-on attachment) Artikelnummer: 700440 sealing cap - however there are several different caps to choose from and which is which is something I have not figured out yet.

Just installed a set of HOT GRIPS-heated grips, hand warmers, grip warmers on my R80G/S and love em. To make them fit you will need to get a machinist to cut you a shoulder plug to extend the stock bars by 5/8" on each side. JB weld them in place. This will allow you to use Model Ergo2-520-760 - kit - for 7/8" bars. They are 5 1/4" long and fit my big arthritic hands better than the shorter ones. As a plus I had them (machinist) drill and tap a center hole to either bolt on bar end weights or, in my case, mount Moose barkbusters. Double benefit. Wiring is straight forward, no prob. You will have to sand down the throttle tube for a slip fit though. Bit of a pain in the arse.
