Bike insurance for USA and Canada

I've been quoted $760 for 4 months cover for USA and Canada (I have a 2006 BMW 1200GS). This was through motorcycle Express. Is this expensive (I think so!) Which company did you use??

Hi, I'm just coming to the end of an Americas trip and my insurance for the US and Canada part, albeit the minimum, was US$92.00 3rd party (ish) with Progressive, one of the big US companies. Do a search on the HUBB, it's been covered many times and if that fails give me a PM. Ride safe.

I tries Progressive, they said they don't "currently offer temposry motorcycle insurance". But they will cover me for a year for $440 it seems. Thats better than $760 from mcexpress and probably the best I can find.

insurance USA

It sounds like you can get insurance in USA without being a resident. Much better than UK or EU where you cant get an insurance company to give a quote unless you are a permanent resident.
Are you bringing the bike from UK or buying in US?

I'm buying my bike in Alaska. Having been to the Rirley HUBB meeting and met someone who's just been to the US it looks like "Progressive" is the way to go. Not as cheap as Uk insurance but very necessary as its the good old US of A.

There are not many options for a foreign national. I just got a quote from Progressive for ONE month insurance, $155 and that was a special, normal price $230

All I wanted was public liability to re-register the bik ein California

The price of insurance can go up with ,cc, what kind of bike, your tickets and any accidents, driving record, and where you get it. Socal is not going to be cheap.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
