Any Non-US citizens buy a Bike in USA recently?

I need someone to confirm that it's possible for a tourist to buy and register a bike in the USA.

People have told me it's def possible but from what i can tell it aint.

Def a no-go in Delaware, New Jersey, New York. Maybe the legislation has changed recently.

Anyone have up-to date info please?

Yes, I did it two years ago in Miami, Florida. No problem, you need a postal address. If you buy a brand new one probably the dealership will help. BMW Dealership in Miami helped me. You can buy there new and preowned. Good luck.

Back to America

"HarleyDan" on this board bought one in Florida awhile back as well. Maybe that is the state to do it in.

I bought a used Vstrom in California last April, you only need a residential address to change the rego and title into your name. It is easy. ALthough in CA, you end up paying sales tax again during the transfer which costs nearly 10 times the cost of transfer.

Cheers

I bought mine last may in Florida and I had the title the same day. No problems at all. I am an Ecuadorian who travelled from UK to Florida to buy it.

Hi

We bought a new KLR in 2008 in Utah and used a friends adress for the registration.
The dealer handled it and we could leave with the original plate the same day

No problem

Thomas

Thank you

Thanks so much for the help folks!
As it happens i've been able to have a friend help me out with registering my bike in Delaware. My trip buddy has opted to get his bike in Florida, arriving there on April 1st 2010. With a little luck our scantily planned trip will be underway shortly after. Thanks again for all the help, have saved us a hell of a lot of time to date and i'm sure a lot more to come. Much Appreciated, the HUBB will def be a major resource from this point forward

I should certainly hope it's posible as I just transferred the money for a GS that I bought on Ebay in Dallas. The dealer's telling me that everything's ok. He sent me the title with the former owner's address on it so I don't know how and if he is transferring it to my name.... I haven't given him any address yet. Just sent him an Email to see what he's doing. Do hope he's on it...
