South America, Easiest place to get a license as a foreigner?
Hi,
I arrived in Chile hoping to get a motorcycle license easily, but it turns out there is a lot of obstacles against foreigners getting bike licenses.

Does anyone know of any other countries in South America that a tourist can easily get a license. Also, info about a country that allows someone to drive bikes of certain engine sizes without a license would be greatly appreciated.

You need to find someone who knows someone and grease some palms.
As unpallettable as it is, sometimes there is no other way in Latin America.

Confirmed.

Chile = least corrupted country in South America = you don t buy a licence
Paraguay = most corrupted country in South America = you buy anything that can be traded, from a licence to a human being.

those guys import trail bikes from the US to sell for local customers, so they are aware of the process and might be interested in your bike. The owner is not german but brazilian. They also can do anything you can dream about on your bike with a team of very qualified specialised mechanics.

They might be closed for the holidays period. Anyways, if you stay around the center of Asuncion with your motorcycle, it will be easy to hire a "guide" that will look for contacts for you for a ridiculous fee. Ask the street money changers in the main streets for a contact.

There is also a huge official Yamaha dealership at the north entrance of Asuncion. Ask your hotel reception for the address.

If you come from Argentina and go thru the main road entrance to Paraguay north of Formosa (not the ferry entrance), no entrance paper will be delivered.

Do you have a car license? I have an AUS drivers license and an international license ($30AUD for the int. license) but nowhere on either of these does it say anything about motorcycles (even though I do have my bike license) so they have no way of knowing and I´ve been pulled over with no problems.

Mt first thought also. You are making it harder then it has to be. Buy a travelers bike from on here and do a little bit of photoshop action.

Where do you stand tho with a photoshop license? You buy compulsory third party insurance at borders for each SA country, but will the insurance hold up in the case of an accident just coz you've been able to purchase it? Wouldn't the insurance company investigate in search of a 'legit' license? Just a thought...

First of all, you do not buy compulsory insurance at borders for each SA country.

And, having insurance doesnt me that you are insured.

Finally, I could show them my United Federation of Planets card saying I am Jean Luc Pickard, Captain, USS Enterprise, and they wouldnt bat an eye.

No one seems to really give a crap about anything down here as long as you pay your money.

Haha, so true, most of the time they just can't be bothered taking on the extra workload.
