Libya Visa (UK Nationals) How to Obtain update 2012/2013

Hey guys and girls

Just thought we would post an update here on Libyan visas and how we obtained them 2012 / 2013 to help all budding travellers out there

The way to do it... Fixers and Business Visas!

Total Time to Arrange: 3-4weeks
Total Cost Per Person: £350 ($400 to the fixer and £100 at the visa office)

We applied with Libya Travel and Tours and have been in frequent contact with a lady there called Jill who has proved to be very lovely and informative.

In order to get the visas, they required the following:
1. Scanned copies of your passports
2. A signed letter of indemnity saying Libya Travel and Tours are legally not responsible for what you do while in Libya
3. FULL payment of $400 each to their US office

To process the visas they take about 7-10 days approximately and then fax the details over to our local Libyan Embassy where we then are required to go collect the visas.

In the UK it was a wee bit difficult to find out information on the Libyan Embassy in London (particularly opening hours) and still we are not 100% sure buuut we believe it to be:

Mon - Fri 10:30 - 15:00 (they close for lunch for an hour/hour and half but again, not sure of the exact timings)

NOTE: Drop off for passports and visa stamps only available Mon - Wednesday. The visa issue then takes 48hours and an additional £100 EACH

Your passports are required to be brought in by yourself or one of the persons in your group who have made the same application and are travelling with.

You are then issued a ticket of which anyone can use to return and collect your passport with. They will also post your passport back to you but they were not specific on timings or whether it was recorded so we did not go for this option!

A small bit of advice... if you are a lady travelling to Libya with fellow male friends/partners/spouses etc then we would recommend the fella pops in and makes the enquiry/collects the visas. We didn't have our brains in gear when we went up and I went in to collect and well... have a read of our post:

Thanks a lot for these infos!

But what do you mean when you write:

"then we would recommend the fella pops in" ? (Sorry,I'm French...).

And are you planning to travel overland (via Tunisia)?

Hey roro!

Men seem to get a better reception than women (this is just from our experience and others we know ) So you might be better off letting a man deal with the paper work and potentially borders!

Yes we are travelling from Tunis to Sfax, Chott El Jerid and Matmata before entering Libya

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
