As told by government:
every monday and thursday evening,Turkish roro ship with a capasity of 120 TIR. will start to carry passengers and cars from mersin to alexandria.. signatures are just completed for agreement between 2 countries..very soon prices will be clear and first start is on Feb.27 evenıng.

As told by the company:
All will be more clear next week.
This projects may meet some delays because the problem over south east cycprus is not solved yet..warships are still in the area.. there is ungentle and great competition between Turkish,Italian, and Greece Shipping companies..
As you know, things change so fast in the area..

On Monday evening will call the company again for details.Their main office is in istanbul, and will write all here then.

Best Wishes

Hi Mehmet, Hi Thomas & Andrea,

First I will introduce myself: me and my girlfriend are currently travelling overland by car from the Netherlands to South Africa (and intend to also drive back).

We are currently in Cappadoccia (Turkey) and will be at the Turkish/Syrian border at the end of this week. We intend to drive through Syria in 1 or 2 days, but only if it is possible and safe enough. We have some lines with people in Syria who may be able to help us, but most of all we would be pleased if a guide/taxi driver/other tourists could join us on our trip trough Syria for safety reasons.

We are of course looking for a "plan B", e.g. shipping our car from Mersin to Alexandria. This seems to be possible with 1 company, but is expensive and a lot of hassle. Also it is not a roro, which means that we should get to Egypt ourselves while our car would be shipped.

Having said all the above, I am very pleased to read this post. If there would be a RoRo from Turkey to Egypt as from next week, I would definately like to know ALL the details! What should I do to get more information?

Could you guys be of any help to me? And Thomas & Andrea, what are your plans? Please let me know, just in case we could do things together if that would work better.

Best regards,
Daan

I just heard from Atakin that it is very unsure if the RoRo will indeed depart on 27 February. Most probably not, but maybe later. There may be more information at the end of the week.

Furthermore, I just heard from some people in/around Syria that it is most probably safe to cross the country, so overlanders should make up their minds and find out if this is not just the best option (I will make up my mind this week and may cross Syria in about a small week).

RORO services to start between Turkey and Egypt

This could be the solution for all travelling EastAfrica by or 4x4"

We are in March and what is the situation about this ferry?

I'm afraid there are no good news for now...

Getting to Africa

Hi all,

We are driving our tuk tuk around the world but the first stage is from London to Cape Town. Our main problem at the moment is finding a ferry that will get us access to Africa. I think our 2 main options having looked on here are as follows:

1. Italy (north east of Venice) to Israel. We are not sure whether this still goes or not? And if we do go to Israel what Sudan will think of that stamp? and on the carnet etc (even if we get it on paper)

2. Turkey to Egypt. Again not sure whether anyone has had any success with this recently?

We will be looking to get the ferry early to mid Oct.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Cheers
