First Meet
Well my first Hubb Meet, what a fantastic four days:funmeteryes: i rode up from Dover , with the Dover to Donington ride getting there as the other riders leave to go up the curved off ramp , so i tag along. All is good as we make our way North, until we turn off, or not in my case ! . i am blocked out by a HGV and have to continue North on my own. ( note to self , head up better forward vision!) So eventually we all meet at Donington and ride in and the start of four brillant days.
i did my bit of volunteering at registration and first aid getting to know people chatting, and soaking up the atmosphere. Made some good friends, Karolien, Simon, July , Andy and others. Watched some excellent presentations, which help fuel the desire to travel and explore our world. Had a go at skinning a rabbit, Road Kill Cook Out, very good a must see. Then i meet the authors of the books i ve read , and having a beer with Ted Simon in the evening. Sam, ian, Susan , Grant and other volunteers , presenters , staff a big THANK YOU for making this a great event. Look forward to next years Hubb and Humm! Al  |
HUBB UK 2014 - Inspiring!
Thanks to all who made our HUBB so welcoming.
There was such a warm atmosphere of camaraderie not often found in such amounts, from the clapping welcome my carawagon and I received at the entrance to the tale of my lost shampoo. I have a small bottle of shampoo I re/use and left it in the shower (boohoo). Got up the next day to have another shower - obviously not in my bag. But there it was, standing proudly outside the shower waiting for me (yay!) Small things mean a lot. Here are some of our carawagons.. http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/...psc79ad752.jpg Meeting buddies new and old, brilliant talks, buying books, great craic, and the show so well organised (including sunshine) by Sam and Iain and all the volunteers. Oh, and the beer bier Despite being an ancient, I was truly inspired by two young ladies who blew my socks off with their stoicism, character and bravery  HELEN LLOYDhttp://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7d500727.jpg PS Sorry for pinching your photo off FB :oops2: This lady is amazing, and her feats in numbers are awesome eg 45,000 miles cycled :eek3: In Siberia, -40C, on her own, with vodka-fueled drivers eating out of her hands. Inspiring. And she has now bought a Serow. What a gal! CLAIRE ELSDON http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/...ps468de7c5.jpg This young lady tells a great story and had us laughing and crying. Her fortitude, when alone and scared, is more than admirable. Inspiring. Hope she gets her bike back, or a new one, soon. What a gal! They are are around the same age as my daughters, so my fatherly mode comes into play when they relive their deeds of daring-do. Not that they would need my assistance. I'd probably get help from them! They are women alone out there, showing us how it's done - an inspiration to us all.  |
Have too Agree
The whole event was fantastic ... it being my first Hubb . wasn't sure what to expect .. but the fact that everyone was walking around smiling and even the UK sun came to play .... the 2 girls on push bike presentations were very inspiring .
Also a massive thanks to all those that organised it ...great job :) bier :funmeteryes: |
Ted S, a legend
Good to meet Ted Simon after all this time and have a brief chat - read Jupiter's Travels shortly after it was published a couple of years after my first Trans-Africa.

We thought you guys would like to see this from ShelterBox.
'I just wanted to drop you a line to say a huge THANKYOU for picking ShelterBox as your chosen charity of the year for the HUBB UK event. The total amount raised at the event was an amazing £4075.67! We had some great feedback from our volunteers manning the stand who said the attendees at the event were the perfect audience. They were so well travelled they understood the issues faced in other countries and therefore could really engage with what we do here at ShelterBox. We would be absolutely delighted to work with you again in the future, if the opportunity arises, and once again a massive thank you for nominating ShelterBox as your chosen charity of the year. Kind Regards ShelterBox |
Right, it's about time we thought about next year! :thumbup1:
What about 21st-24th May 2015? Go on, you know you want to . . . . |

But dont worry I'm not holding my breath; I assume it will be around the same time again, when most people expect it to be. Perfectly reasonable, just no good for me, alas |
Thumbs up
I know its been a while since we all packed up and went home, but I also wanted to add what a FANTASTIC time we had.
Old friends, New friends, great presentations, weather teriffic. Danny & Fil so pleased you got Mike to do the magic stuff with the pheasant, now he has no excuses when I bring them home. I want to be there next year but dont think I have enough holiday time as I have other stuff to fit in, but Mike should be there. A highlight for me was Mike being star struck when purchasing the Ed Marsh DVD, he had to ask someone else to go buy it for him, it was fun seeing him turn that nice shade of pink. Inspired of course, we did a long 745 mile weekend around the North of Scotland just make sure you fill up with fuel when you can and keep your fingers crossed you find garages open on a Sunday. See you all at Haggs in September |
Hi Everyone,
May we ask for your help. The Feedback Questionnaire. If you've not filled in yours yet, we'd be very grateful if you could crack on and do it before Friday 25th please. bier Much of what you saw happening this year at the HUBB UK, the layout, the presentations, the outdoor activities, the exhibitors and how many there were, the price of the beer and well, just about everything was influenced by everyone's feedback last year. The whole point of the HUBB UK is to Inspire, Inform and Connect. You all filling in the feedback helps us do our best to make it the event you would like to have. A huge thanks to everyone who has completed it to date. Brilliant! Thanks very much :thumbup1: |

Thanks |
Ha! The only silly question is the one that doesn't get asked when an answer really is needed!
The answer in this instance is that everyone who booked in advance on line, will have had an email through with the link and the info. If you've not had yours, always worth checking your spam box. :thumbup1: |
