Hi Bacardi23
I am trying to fit a set of 05 WR forks to my XT but have a problem with the steering stem.
Did you use the oringal XT stem or get the YZ machined down to fit the XT bearing,
I have had my WR stem machined down for the bearing but if I get a thread cut on the stem for the headrace adjusting nut the top yoke will be a loose fit, I was going to get a spacer made for the inside of the yoke but the machine shop said it will be so thin it may break. I was also thinking of getting the top yoke bored out so I can use a thicker spacer.
What did you do I am sure there is an easier way.
I think the YZ and WR forks are the same except for the internals but I also think after 05 they use a longer steering stem

bacardi23 26 May 2009 16:13

Don't worry Tom, I got it handled :thumbup1:

For the kickstart you can read this, it has all the parts that you need to get in order to fit everything into place:

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ck-start-30064

If you want to add a manual decompresser the info is also in that thread...

READ EVERYTHING I MENTION IN THAT THREAD!

If after that you still have any doubts PM me, email me or just add me on MSN....

****As off 2004 the forks went from 46 to 48mm diameter**** (at least for the YZ 2-strokes but that is irrelevant for this)

First of all I beg you to take a look at this!

Universal Triple Clamp Yamaha YZ YZF 04 05 7/8":eBay Motors (item 270393852412 end time May-26-09 17:31:06 PDT)

I've seen several of these from this seller end at the 25USD so "SNIPE" IT (bet on the last few seconds) lol

I wish they had one of these sets for my forks :\

As for the rest here it goes:

I machined my YZ steering stem...

In order to do this I had my XT's frame to check everything was good!

What I did on my YZ triple clamps was:
  • Cut the lower bearing carefully with a Dremmel to avoid damaging the stem.
  • Press out the steering stem. (be carefull, it has a "ring" on the bottom of the lower triple clamp that is barelly noticeable that you need to take off before you press out the stem!)
  • Measure the stem on where the lower bearing fits to ensure the XT's lower bearing fits tight in there! ( I was lucky here, the stem from the YZ triple clamps that I had where the exact match for the XT's lower bearing! 30mm i think it had)
  • For the NUT, I machined a thread for the XT's NUT...if I recon it was thread #1 or #2 BUT get that measured as I am not sure!!( there is a special tool for measuring this that looks like the Sparkplug gap measuring thingy)
  • As for the top bearing, I had to machine the YZ stem a little more right after the end of the new NUT thread that you just had machined so the top XT's bearing would slide into the correct place and sit on the XT frame holes as they should!
  • As for the big NUT that goes on top of the triple clamps I just used the YZ's nut to lock everything into place....
Do use new bearings!

Any doubts just reply here,PM,email or MSN me! lol

Have fun!

:innocent: (yes, Vando is my name lol) :scooter:

bacardi23 26 May 2009 17:21

You could also post some pictures here so I can see what you have done to that steering stem....

And as you will notice, after putting the front forks you will see that the forks DO hit your fuel tank!
you will have to fabricate at least one over steering stopper (harder) or make TWO over steering stoppers one and weld them to the XT's frame so the forks do not hit the fuel tank!

Vando :thumbup1:

wolfzero 26 May 2009 19:16

those triple clamps have a start of $25 but he has a reserve thats close to the buy it now :(

i used some ktm650 yokes as they already had fat bar mounts and made an upper bearing to fit the ktm spindle and the xt upper bearing race so there was no need to either press out the xt one or make a collar/spacer for the upper ktm yoke :cool4:

apexTwin 26 May 2009 20:42

Thanks Vando,

Note to self: "must remember to use search function before asking questions" :oops2:

bacardi23 26 May 2009 20:59

No reserve on those triple clamps... I've bought from him two upper triple clamps from that same manufacturer "UNIVERSAL" one for 15.50 (1-1/8th clamp) and the other for 11.01 (7/8th clamp) with a total of 38.46 including s/h... you just have to SNIPE them at the end and hope for the best :P

anyway, I'm off to bed lol I'm falling asleep----------DREAM--> :Beach:

Updates

  • Bought an All Balls Fork Dust Seal kit for my new forks for 31.50$
  • 2006 YZ250F swingarm for 45$ + 15$ for s/h... a real bairgain!!!
I will be looking for a 1999-2009 YZ/WR 125/450 rear wheel hub.. Yamaha OEM part# 5ET-25311-00-00

If anyone one has a good one hanging around in the garage just let me know and make me an offer :D

Vando :innocent:

wolfzero 1 Jun 2009 16:35

the swingarm you just bought has a different type of shock linkage so you will have a lot of work to do getting that to fit.

bacardi23 1 Jun 2009 17:37

Hey :)

I know I know.. I'll have alot of work ahead lol
I gotta have something to do this summer besides women, riding, partying, beer and fishing(mostly spear fishing! :Beach:

I must say that the 06 YZ250F rear suspension I bought looks awesome! I'll post a picture or two this afternoon...

SOO I'm studying on which angle would be the best for the XT although it might be a loooooooong time till I get it shipped and delivered from my family in the US to my home in Azores (Portugal)....

What I'll probably do is make a solid rack with several mounting position splines or holes for mounting the shock, fix it to the XT's frame and that way I can just try the bike on each setting and see what works better for me.. lol

If it is a splines one, I'll have to make a special moving rear shock fixation mount which would give me more options but more work! lol

What do you think guys about that? :smartass: lol

bacardi23 11 Jun 2009 08:26

I'm currently not at my island and won't be there until end of July sooo pics and everything will have to wait...
As for the swingarm and related, they are still in the US and will probably stay there until around christmas lol

One thing I can say is that I bought a Fox full body armour jacket and a full matte black TMS off-road helmet both NEW and really cheap off flebay of course! :scooter:

New updates:

Bought a 2004 YZ250 rear wheel complete with hub, sprocket and rotor but told the seller to cut off the rim+tire and spokes because they were in bad shape and to save a few bucks on shipping....it cost me 68USD with shipping! ;)

ALSO: Bought a Mikuni BST40 single carb from a KTM 620 LC4 for 21quid +shipping!
It's the same carb as the Suzuki DR650...

It's the mod some guys have posted out there that works with a 2-1 carb joint from a Rhino or grizzly ATV ;)

Will need that joint and mod my throttle assy or get a twist throttle ofor one of those ATV's ;)

Vando :innocent:

wolfzero 23 Jun 2009 13:18

a 2-1 carb joint from a Rhino or grizzly ATV is in a straight line so won't allow that carb to fit properly it will be too tight against the rear shock to fit any air filter on it, that mod will only work on the early xt's where the shock mount is further back.
unless you modify it to angle the carb and even then you will still have some clearance issues.
xt's have a push pull throtle cable so you will need to swap the twist grip to that single cable type.

Thanks for the heads up wolf!

I was thinking of the 2002 grizzly's carb joint. which is shorter! but it has a two problems.

Look at the pictures attached..

It is straight forward but the mounts are a little different.
The top screw holes are pointing inside whilst they should be pointing both to the left and both bottom should be pointing right

The second picture is a carb spacer. On the raptor660 that gives her about +2 HP so a similar one would do great I think..

I guess that making a plate that let's me fix this situation will be enough..

The second problem is the grizzly joint is somewhat weird... but give me ideas please..

The rear shock doesn't scare me much because since I might fit an YZ/WR rear shock, I'll have to weld the top mount a little behind on the frame about 8centimeters... but that mod will be after this summer...maybe in September or October or just in the Christmas..

But I do want to put the carb before that suspension mod..

Mayday Mayday Mayday!

Vando :innocent:

bacardi23 23 Jun 2009 16:27

This is the carb: http://i.ebayimg.com/19/!BSVfbJgB2k~$(KGrHgoOKkYEjlLmY4pPBKCsIjkU3g~~_1.JP G

With shipping to Portugal it is 35.65quid ;)

awesome deal!

Vando :innocent:

wolfzero 23 Jun 2009 16:34

raptor inlet is for the 5valve head also the shorter grizlzy manifold will affect fueling too, the ports won't be long enough to give good mixture so the head will need porting to give a better mixture hence the spacer on the raptor giving better performance.

bacardi23 23 Jun 2009 16:49

hummm would it give a too rich or too poor mixture?
What is the main difference for the 5valves?

It is currently jetted for the KTM620 so if the lengtht would make it poor, it should compensate I guess.. but that will be one of the problems..jetting...

I'll also be getting either an airbox from either the raptor or the DR650 or at least get the measures so I can make a custom one in fiberglass for my XT..

Vando :)

wolfzero 23 Jun 2009 17:03

5 valve head has 3 inlet valves and is water cooled so no it won't fit

bacardi23 23 Jun 2009 17:06

I've just checked and the 2000 raptor 600 has a 4-valve engine

the part number is 4H7-11133-10-00 superseeded by 4H7-11133-11-00
which are the same as the XT...

The carb joint is the metal one, the one that appears to be the longest of the pics I've posted..

bacardi23 23 Jun 2009 17:11

2 Attachment(s)
Lol, forgot to post the pictures xD

here they are...

They don't appear to be that much longer than the grizzly's 660 one..

wolfzero 23 Jun 2009 20:10

its longer than stock when you include the carb mounting stub, plus its slap bang in the middle which means it has clearance issues with the top of the carb it will be in line with the spine of the frame :(

bacardi23 26 Jun 2009 19:34

Hey guys!

Does anyone have BST40 have a choke plunger laying around?
The carb I bought doesn't have one so I need to get one..

I know the LTZ has a Mikuni BSR38mm and I've found one choke plunger that looks exactly what I'm looking for but dunno if it'll fit... it's on flebay for 15bucks..
Do you guys know/think it'll fit on the BST40?

My other problem is... throttle cables! this carb came from a KTM640 SM but will the throttle cables from a DR650 work with it, are the cables exactly the same?
what other bikes have this same carb?

@ wolf I've also been posting on advrider and one of the guys mentioned some KTM linkless swingarm

Those KTM swingarms, the shock mount points are offset to the right and will probably help out with this carb setup, what do you think?

They also mention that KTM rear shocks have a large veriaty of shock spring rates but I'm concerned about the possible height change :S

I guess that since I already have most parts of the YZ rear end I'll just try to see what I can come up with... if it doesn't work on the XT I'll try the parts on my 2002 DT125R or just end up selling the whole thing...

Ideas?

Vando :innocent:

wolfzero 26 Jun 2009 21:25

your bargain carb doesn't sound much of a bargain i'd hazard a guess that it has a cable choke so thats why its missing so maybe you need all the ktm throttle and choke controls.
the spring rates will be the least of your worries if you move the top mounting back you wont be able to use the air box which actually holds the battery in place too.
linkages are a pantograph allowing more movement with less linear travel as i have said before the linkage will have an affect on rate of spring required or lack of linkage in the case of the ktm.

bacardi23 27 Jun 2009 08:00

I'm all forward to getting rid of my stock airbox! It's a huge pile of nothing! lol
It has actually been one of the things I wanted to get rid off and just put two of those conical airfilters untill I found out it would mess up the jetting..

I've asked here or on advrider and one of the guys said he could send me some internal measures and drawings/pictures of his DR650 airbox so I can make own in fiberglass that fits way better and holds everything nice and clean as Yamaha should've done in the first place..

The choke parts are actually cheap on BikeBandit and the throttle, I will try to use my XT's with a little adapter or something like that....If that doesn't work I'll just wait around patiently I will find one on flebay sooner or later..

Could you explain me a bit more how exactly the linkage and suspension actually works?
This is something really interesting!

Vando :innocent:

wolfzero 27 Jun 2009 14:36

air boxes are actually quite important they allow the induction system to draw the correct volume of still air through the venturi of the carb to give a proper mixture.
read up on suspension for yourself its too complicated to put in a forum post read this one first then research from the info given on that

Car Bibles: Motorbike suspension types and how they work.

bacardi23 1 Jul 2009 12:55

Hey there..

@Wolf
I've read the website you postedf and now I understand the principles of the linkage..

Do you think an early XT longer rear shock will give me the little extra height I'm looking for to "match" the front forks?

OR

I guess that would allow me to mount the fork a little behind on the frame to give me more space for the carb, no?

Updates:
  1. - Got my carb a couple of days ago! it looks great!
  2. - Bought that Y-carb joint boot for 18.99USD with shipping (the same here in Portugal is almost 170€ with taxes and shipping)
For the carb I still need:
  • The small rubber boot that links the Y-joint to the carb..
  • will buy the throttle grip with cables from a KTM LC4 640 just in case the XT's cables won't work with the carb
  • And the choke plunger is still missing
I know that the 1990 DR650 carb (also a Mikuni BST40) had the choke plunger I'm looking for but I'm afraid that Mikuni might have changed something since 1990???

I also know the choke plunger off the DR350 will fit the DR650 carb but I have yet to find out what differences the Mikuni BST40 has from make to make (mine is Mikuni BST40 but from a KTM LC4 640)

HELP!!

Vando :innocent:

wolfzero 1 Jul 2009 17:11

i have no idea at all what will work on your bike thats why all my rear suspension is in exactly the same position as yam designed it to be, moving any mounting point will change the loading (distance from fulcrum point, length of lever, etc...) on the suspension and will need to be tuned via spring rates damping etc.

lets put into perspective yamaha bought 50% of the ohlins company back in 1987 as it was cheaper than developing their own suspension, showa spend millions on developing just the oil seals alone for their kit.

basically if you do not fit it where its designed to be it will not work as it did before :rolleyes2:

bacardi23 3 Jul 2009 17:15

Well, for now I have and will keep the stock rear suspension!

What I was trying to ask was, will a longer suspension from one of the orther XT's give me some extra rear height? (keeping the same mount positions of course)

Does anyone know/have a list with the lenght of the XT's rear shock from the several year models?

But I will try to fit the carb on the bike..

Does routing the carb-airbox joint need to be in a specific design?
What should I avoid doing?

Updates:

  • carb choke plunger from procycle.us for 20bucks delivered (to my US address) - bought!
  • DR650 carb joint (engine/carb) 22€ delivered here in Portugal - bought!
I don't want to be a pain by putting all these questions on here.. yuo guys must be full with my "mods" already lol

The Ninja right-side mirror will not work without an adapter (for the Yamaha left-hand thread). Many replacement mirrors available with the Yamaha threads. The trouble I have is that the mirror heads are not wide enough to allow me to see past my shoulders. I was even thinking of installing bar-end mirrors until I found that my handlebars had welded-in bar-end weights. If you have the OEM mirrors, the heads can be removed from the stems and an extension inserted between the two. I got a pair from here:

Hi there!

I ended up buying these a couple of days ago: Spiegel Paar universal E-geprüft schwarz NEU - eBay (item 390072352250 end time Jul-25-09 12:33:04 PDT)

also bought:As for the 2003 XT600E blue plastic fairings: rear fender and both side panels, on CMNSL or whatever website they want 396euros for those 3 parts f:censored:rs 100€ just for shipping and 33euros for taxes :rolleyes2: I'm gonna ask here at my local "Yamaha supplier" how much do these plastics cost from them!

Please let me se the mirrors on when they arrive.

bacardi23 28 Jul 2009 05:10

Hahammm ya liked them huh!? I will take some pictures tomorrow of the "whole" naked bike lol

Vando:innocent:

bacardi23 6 Sep 2009 01:36

Well.. been a while now but unfortunately not much has been done...

The mirrors have arrived a month ago but I have yet to make two bolts to make the mirrors fit onto the clutch and brake lever pin bolts because they look too tall on the bike for my taste...

I could do on the easy way and just trim down a little on the plastic joints so it'll let the mirror go lower than 40degrees (on the handlebars mirror bolt holes)...

I'm gonna take some pictures of them on my 2002 DT125R that has some cheap ProTaper type of handlebars with raisers so you can have an idea of how they look like..

- I've also got the new headlight fairing and seat side panels (forgot to order the rear fender lol)

- Got all the carb parts needed to make it work but with only one throttle cable (one of the XT's)...might get a throttle tube thingy from a KTM 640 Supermoto if I can find a cheap one that has both cables...

- Bought 2liters of fork oil for the forks.. I asked for a heavier oil than the KYB 01 that the 02 YZ250 uses and the guy at the Yamaha dealer gave me of Putoline 2.5w racing fork oil.. hope it is enough for what I need or I'll have to get some heavier oil...

- Frame is still on the paint shop because they went on vacation?! :censored: they could've told me that! but anyway, they said it would be ready this week!

So yeah... less than one month to go before college restarts and here I am on a standstill

:funmeterno:

I have to get some loctite on monday so I can do the forks... so tomorrow will be leasure time lol..

  5. buy one of these: 60mm 2 3/8" Aluminium Alloy Beaded Hose Joiner Silicone on eBay (end time 06-Oct-09 15:29:21 BST)
  6. Sell the KTM LC4 640 throttle tube+cables that I bought as new and never used it as it the cables are too short to fit on the XT...

The thing is.. I put some pics of the rear fender .. as you might have noticed, there is a big gap between the fender and the frame.... the frame is bent JUST on that part (after the pillion hand grabbing things)
The gap is about 6centimeters (2-1/4")...

Tomorrow I'll be fixing this... Have to put it straight before painting the frame...

Next things on the list:
  • KEDO stainless steel downpipes... as soon as they get in stock :\
Does anyone know of anyone who makes these not in stainless steel but in Copper?

My father told me that he had a Kawasaki 25/30 years ago that had Copper downpipes which looked awesome and NEVER rusted!

  • Paintjob is at 1/4 of completion.. only the main frame has been sandblasted and has primer on it since.... DECEMBER and will stay like that until my Easter college vacations...
anyway... BUMP

ssbon 3 Feb 2010 20:45

copper exhaust pipes not good?

hi remember being told once a long time ago that copper gives of poisonous fumes when heated and so coundnt be used for exhaust pipes as the rider sits above the pipes and heat/fumes rise upwards steve

bacardi23 3 Feb 2010 21:51

Hi steve!
Shouldn't those poisonous fumes be gone after a few heat cycles?
It was just an interesting idea tho...

Well, my father is hitting 51 yo and is very much alive and very healthy...

Anyway, as far as this thread goes I'm gonna have to update it soon as possible as it has become too confusing even for me :confused1:

Where did you get the plastics from and how much did they cost.I need the front headlight surround and some sides too and did you find the little airscoops for the sides of the tank.I broke one and can,t find anything on e bay. Any one know of some cheap yam spares without getting screwed in shipping costs....cheers

Pigford 4 Feb 2010 19:12

I heard they give of some sort of arsenic gas...??????? Always been a no-no.

Update...

Some of the parts I bought a few months ago have arrived at my house in Azores...

My brother is going back home in two days and will check what parts have arrived because I'm clueless lol

I think the WR450 exhaust, YZ rear suspension brakes and hub, Universal Triple clamps (both 7/8th and 1-1/8 bar clamps) and Pro taper fatbar and the 2008 R1 oem brake light...

Don't remember if I bought anything else that long ago...

Anyway, when my brother let's me know what parts have arrived I'll then straighten this thread.....

Wish List #6 - Raptor 660 carbs BOUGHT

I'm waiting for the seller to send me some better pictures but it seemed dirty on the outside but in good shape...

65.75USD with shipping to my US address ... not bad...

you guys will call me crazy lol:D

Vando :smartass:

Jens Eskildsen 17 Feb 2010 16:57

Damn, thats a good price....

bacardi23 17 Feb 2010 19:05

It is... I hope! lol

With the raptor carb I can always put the rear shock in the stock mounting position and go Supermoto on the front wheel...

I'm also considering on getting a 4PT 1995 model that a guy is selling around here for 1000€

it does have some problems...it has a cracked rear swingarm, missingsome plastic panels... but does have a CRD pipe..

as long as he has the "pinkslip" I'll consider on buying it..

Vando :smartass:

Pigford 17 Feb 2010 20:28

Whats the score with the Raptor carbs then - what advantages to std????

bacardi23 18 Feb 2010 10:52

15year technology advance? lol

my stock carbs aren't that bad but in the last couple of years it's got giving the same performance anymore... and fidling with the YDIS doesn't seem like a good idea...

Plus, the wide variety and ease of jetting options might help in the future if I want I can go add some ponies to the engine..

Plus, with the raptor carbs, I can put my rear shock in the stock mounting position and compensate the taller front forks with a 17" SM front wheel... ;)

Vando :cool4:

bacardi23 22 Feb 2010 16:39

Does anyone know if the XT's stock carb inlet rubbers fit on the raptor carb?

Vando :innocent:

Jens Eskildsen 22 Feb 2010 19:31

Dont know, but cant you messure the width of your stock carb, and then the raptor carb?

Hope you get it on a dyno afterwards, so we can se what gain there is.

bacardi23 23 Feb 2010 01:28

Lol hi!

I 've searched and read the XT's intake rubbers are a good fit to the raptor carbs...

One thing I know don't know is what are filters too get... any ideas on what fits the raptor carbs?

dyno? I'd love to do that..
but UNFORTUNATELY my bike is 2000 km away from me back in Azores... (I'm in mainland Portugal in Setubal city) and the raptor carbs are in the US lol

I hope the bike will be ready in the Summer by the time I finish one more college year...

3
– Kedo Stainless steel downpipes.

They should be arriving this week or the next

Jens, what jetting did you end up with your raptor 660 carbs?

Vando :smartass:

Jens Eskildsen 23 Mar 2010 16:15

Me ?

I just have a rejetted stock carb on.

#50 idle jet
132,5/120 main jets.
Raised both needles

bacardi23 23 Mar 2010 16:30

oh... I googled to find some info on the jets for the raptor carb and found a post from you on advider...

Should've read the whole thread :rofl:sorry

btw, do you have some pictures of that rear shock raiser?
I'm considering on having one made for me but probably with a different raise....

I saw the picture you got on here about it... the two black XT's....

If I go with the raptor carbs instead of the BST40 I'll be able to refit the shock on the stock mounting position but with a raiser like yours to compensate for my taller front end.. :helpsmilie:

Jens Eskildsen 23 Mar 2010 22:09

I'll get you a pic next monday.

bacardi23 23 Mar 2010 23:15

Thanks Jens! :)

I'll be getting my tools ready as i get back home this Saturday for easter holidays and I'll start taking some measures of what I suppose need for the piece to fit :)

Vando :innocent:

bacardi23 27 Mar 2010 20:45

At last! I'm back at home!

Just went to the mailbox and found the post office notice... monday I'm picking up my Kedo stainless steel downpipes YUPYYY lol

not soo good things... I won't be getting my mufflers, R1 rear brake light nor the Raptor carb untill summer....soooo I won't be able to start making my fiberglass work :frown:

Also, monday, I'll check with a local paintshop to see if they can paint my frame FINALLY!

right now, I'm going to check the YZ enclosed chain guide and some other bits!

Vando :cool4:

bacardi23 28 Mar 2010 22:47

well... the most important parts I wanted aren't here soooo this Easter I probably won't be able to do much work on the bike :rolleyes2:

no chainguide yet...have to wait for the shipment arriving this summer!....darn

This afternoon I fitted one of the top triple clamps with 1-1/8 clamps and my ProTaper fatbar.
Tomorrow I'll either take the lower triple clamp and fit some top and lower bearings + the necessary machining work OR just swap the steering stem with the one I've already modded to fit on my XT....

Tonight I'm going to take some measures so i can make my own swingarm protector/guide in that white PET stuff...
First I do have to find the remainings of the original lol...

Who knows I might make an enclosed one in case the chain breaks off...

Any other ideas as for what material to use besides PET?

bacardi23 5 Apr 2010 04:31

Well, Tomorrow I'll be getting my freshly painted frame home and the front end with the new UNIVERSAL triple clamps (bottom and top clamps)

Also, will hopefully finish building my engine lifter which is almost complete! (it'll later work as a normal bike stand LOol)
I just have to weld 5 small (25cm long) square tubing to use with a normal car-jack.... as soon as I figure out what happened to my arc welding gizmo...

Does anyone know what's the problem with my welding gizmo?
I was making a bead around the square tubing and suddenly it stopped working.
That humming noise that the gizmo makes stopped suddenly and which also stopped welding although the light is still on... :helpsmilie:

and I'm leaving tomorrow night and heading back to college...
so by 18:00 GMT work stops for another 3 months :rolleyes2:

I think you may have either blown a fuse in the power circuit or if you have them, the trip fuse in your power supply.

Cheers from Oz.

Jens Eskildsen 6 Apr 2010 16:33

No pics of the shock raiser yet, as my internet at home is down :(

bacardi23 6 Apr 2010 22:07

Hey there!

well, the welding machine problem was... HEAT lol
I let it cool down while I took a shower to get the dirt off and went into me jacuzzi.. after that about an hour and a half later , it was fully working again!

I have to say that the top part of the lift is fully working!
BUT the baseplate that sits on the floor and gives balance to the stand is some weak sheet metal and doesn't support the full weight of the engine as it tends to bend and lean forward but that's a quick fix, just need a wider and much heavier metal sheet that can support the "pillars" and not bend with the weight of the engine. and It'll look like a hightech pro lift that works with a normal car jack lol..

Jens... that's ok.. I've got 3 months! lol

Next, I'm gonna post some not very good pics (I was in a hurry to go catch the plane) of the frame and in one extra picture I hope you can see my stand/lift :innocent:

I didn't even check the frame very well and ust now, after checking them I can see he missed some hidden places but since I still have paint for the metal square shape tube that goes in front of the engine and protects the oil pipes, for the bashplate and the front-back footpegs-foot brake lever I'll get him to retouch were needed....

What silencer do you have?
Do you know what size jets you are going to fit?

Any idea where I can get on of these front disc protector? Been looking everywhere.

bacardi23 11 Jun 2010 15:49

Hi!
I just answered your thread lol..

I still have the stock one but the WR450 one and the other Jardine one have arrived...
I'll probably go with the WR450 silencer as it looks much better than the Jardine one but I'll be trying them both!

As for the front disc protector you'll only be able to get them from Yamaha...
the OEM part number for the protector ir: 3TB-25715-00-00 or 3TB-25715-00 (don't worry about the last 2zeros as they are mainly used only in the US)

Vando :cool4:

03XT600E 11 Jun 2010 17:05

Yes try both the silencers out, I have the stock and 2 other silencers and the difference in performance is fantastic.

Thanks for the part number, from Yamaha it will be expensive I expect, like the air scoops I need also, extortinate!

I see they are for the 3TB, don't know if they will fit the 4PT with the disc being 285mm, I think the older models had a small disc.

Actually looks like that part is no longer available, discontinued.

bacardi23 11 Jun 2010 19:36

oh.. I thought you had the 3TB... the one on the picture you posted....

I dunno the 4PT part number tho, maybe someone knows?

the disc cover isn't really a necessary part... but it's up to you ;)
and yes... the airscoops are too pricey... I think I'll order some in fiberglass.. they cost 60euros with no paint....from a guy here in Portugal...

Vando :cool4:

03XT600E 11 Jun 2010 20:06

Yes I have a 2003 4pt, I saw that bike on ebay and emailed him asking where he got the disc cover but it was already on his bike when he bought it.

60 euros is a good price, Yamaha want about double that.

If he sends to the UK I would appreciate his webpage.

Anyway I don't want to ruin and hijack your mod thread anymore so feel free to reply in the other thread or send his webpage by PM.

Hey all!

well, I'm thinking that since I'm fitting the raptor carb on my XT I should also use one of these:
http://ukih.merchantrunglobal.com/Im...DisplaySize=-1
I just don't know if I should use the following set:

From cylinder head to carb and from carb to air filter:

1) XT inlet rubbers - carb - Raptor 660 air ducts
OR
2) Raptor inlet rubbers - carb - Raptor 660 air ducts

I think the first option would be the best...
Anyone else got experience with this please help out..

Also... anyone car to share his knowledge or expertise and help out with choosing the jetting setup I should use?

Well, I'm going for option number 1....
I just don't know if I'll use the Raptor's air ducts or if I'll need to fabricate some in alluminum exhaust-type of pipe because of clearance against the rear shock....

Does anyone know if the raptor air ducts will work on my setup? :confused1:

Well.. I ended up buying:

K&N RU-4710 airfilter
+ plastic adapter (it's the one above),
Outerwears Water Repellant Pre-Filter
Raptor 660 carb to airbox intake boots
....(will surely need a small adjustment)

Plus, I bought just bought this:

YZ 125/250 2006-2010 UFO Deep Purpulish Blue solid
to match the 2003 XT600E blue plastics which have the same color!

If it has the UFO sticker up front I just might peel it off..

#25 pilot jets
main jets from 145 to 165
Aftermarket fuel needles (allows more fuel flow)

59.99USD... expensive

hope I don't need to get anymore jets!

so... I'm home!

Haven't been able to do about anything on the bike because the machinist I left the front suspension with to remove a broken screw went on to another island as his GF is having their baby....
So until monday I'm in a standby...

I went on to start dismantling the raptor carb and F-me.. there is a stuck fuel screw that has been f-ed up by the previous owner..it's completely stripped and I have to wait for that machinist friend to take it off by drilling it out or something...

Other than that, the handlebar YAMAHA grips, the K&N air filter+ adapter, Outwear water reppelant pre-filter, the Vito's jet kit have all arrived...

The Trailtech vapor dashboard has arrived BUT the computer is still in the US.. I'll have to ask my aunt to ship it to me or something...

Oh, and the raptor air inlet boots air still on the way..
The YZ front fender is exactly the same color as the rest of the XT's bodywork just like I predicted!

The exhausts are here, and I'll most likely be fitting the WR450 one.. although the Jardine one is muchmuch lighter that it's making me think...
plus... Today is my B-day! lol :D lalalalala
