Found it
Sorry about the previous posting without searching first.
I found the info I was after here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-newyork-56554 Still interested to see anything that anyone has to add to that though. |
Hey SprintST, how's the knee coming along, will you be ready to head south in 2012?
Growler Edited to add, 365 days to go the countdown is on for me |
Hi Growler,
Thanks for enquiring. I've got a date with the surgeon on August 15th. Turns out only the meniscus is torn, so the recovery period should be much shorter than last time. My plan is to head towards Florida the second week of October with a couple of buddies, on my new DR650. I'll leave them there and make my way in the direction of Mexico and beyond. Pretty loose plans though. Have to wait and see what's what at the time. Cheers! |
Happy to see there will be a few other HUBBers on the road to SA this year.
I'm heading down from Montreal leaving the 17th of october (work imposed) with my mighty KLR and heading all the way to Ushuaia. Gonna go straight through the states and down the east coast of Mexico to make time. Will fly from panama to Columbia (I get real sea sick). I'm going down the ANDES to Ushuaia then back up through the east coast through brazil then back home. I have a year. Sure hope I will get to meet some of you down the road. I always appreciate meeting interesting people of all ages. Feel free to PM me if one of you think we might be in the same region at the same time. First drink is on me :) |
If any of you are interested in coming to Mexico City we can put you up. Send me a PM and we can arrange it. The city is great and we have been told (although I don't believe it) that we are good hosts.

Texas to Tiera del Fuego
Hi Jeff and others,
I'm heading south in early September from Austin, Texas. I'm 44, fit, experienced traveler in Latin America, speak Spanish and riding a DR650. I'm interested in riding with like minded folks for some or all the way. I have a plan, but not an itenerary. The plan is to take my time. If anyone is heading the same way about the same time, I'd be interested in talking. I've started a website that has my loose plan and gear list. I'd love to hear your feedback on the packing list. THE ADVENTURE BEGINS. Troy |
HUBB meeting in California Oct. 14-16
I'm going to attend the HUBB meeting in Cali on my way South. Will be leaving Ottawa Ontario on October 1st and stopping to visit someone in Des Moines along the way until October 10th.
HU is offering an off-road riding course for $60 at the event. That will be a big bonus for me and my new DR. Lots to do before then though. Just a matter of getting down to it. Anyone else on this thread planning on going to the HU meeting? |
I'm off, I left CT already but staying for few days in Ithaca NY
tomorrow I'm hitting the road again and I will travel to Deal's gap, than make my way to Big bend and cross to Mexico, I hope to see you out there Jerry In deep need to recharge |

Hey Hickery: same age, leaving Nova Scotia, August 2012 for TDF:clap:, hope to be down there for Christmas and back to BA to see the DAKAR start in January. What month were you planning to leave? Growler |
Hi Folks,
Hoping to be in Ushuaia for xmas but I don't finish work for another month and I haven't bought the bike yet. Hopefully see some of you there or on the road. D. |
Update
Just thought I'd drop in with an update. Things are going on schedule. I'm in Des Moines and will be leaving for Denver on Saturday to pick up some bike bits.
From there on to the HU meeting in California. Hope the nice weather holds. Cheers! |
Heading South
Lot's to do yet, but gearing up to leave late October or early November from Los Angeles area. I'll probably stay on mainland to save some time. Baja next time.
Anybody able to ride along? |
Quote:
IF all goes to plan, I'll be crossing over to Baja around first week of November. Riding a "dual sport" too (XR650R). Coming from Moab. |
Baja on Way to "El Fin de Mundo"
Shibby
"IF all goes to plan, I'll be crossing over to Baja around first week of November." "Riding a "dual sport" too (XR650R)." I'd consider going down through Baja, but it depends on how "off road" you plan to go and how much of the time. The reason I say this is that I just semi-retired my DR650 and picked up a Wee Strom DL650, which I am outfitting for this trip to El Fin de Mundo. Chris |
Growler.....the plan was to leave in September 2012....same plan to be down by Christmas......keep in touch....my email is haysandy@gmail.com
