Another one all ears...

Guess it won't hurt to throw my name in the hat - at least the hat of lurkers..!

I feel the winds of change coming too. Fed up with the job and I've been feeling the pull of a moto trip for the last few months. The Prudoe Bay to Ushuaia trip is tops on my list, but heading south from the lower 48 would certainly be an option. I'm 49, in northern Colorado. One immediate plan is a trip to the NW (WABDR...Tour of Idaho) and possibly joining the HU Travellers meeting in Nakusp, BC in late August. Might be a good precursor to a longer 6-12 month, tour thereafter.

I ride a 1200GSA currently, but might size down. I've been looking at 650 XChallenge, with some touring friendly conversions, as I want to do the western TAT someday too.

SUBSCRIBED!

We'll be in Nakusp in Aug. Look us up! or drop by Calgary for a visit too.

Also in the UK for the meeting, looks like a year of meetings!

Happy Trails,
Miles

John,

A bit late getting back to you but I would like stay in touch. I hope to find at least one rider to partner with through Mexico and Guat. Still plan on a late November exit from California and plenty of time to plan.

Cheers

Well, I fit the age bracket and then some and unless China starts being nice to bikers I should be in BA most likely at Dakar Motors bijou boutique doss around the 13th Sep. planning to hit the Valdes peninsula for whale playtime then south before turning north. If anyone is interested I don't mind riding solo but I do like drinking in company. Ride safe.

Hey guys,

I'm 28, from Calgary as well and hope to head south for as long as I can this fall. Planning for 3 months at least. I'd love to do S.A, but I'd have to see. More time isn't really an issue, it just means more planning and more money. The biggest issues are my dog and house.

Either way, if it happens I may bump into some of you along the way. I plan to ride what I have, and that's currently a XR650R dualsported at the moment. Just looking at the best ways of carrying luggage. Recently got back from 4000km's in Baja with a GL Coyote bag, and although a great way of carrying items on a dirt bike/dual sport, it's simply not big enough for a trip like this. Currently thinking Dirtbagz, then the Promoto Rake it rack, and a hard top case for the electronics. Should get me around 60liters which is twice as big as the Coyote and probably more then I need.

At the moment I have a buddy in Venezuela stirring me on.. Says it's the single best thing he's ever done.

I am very curious about the shipping back from S.A. That's something I'll have to look into and could actually simplify my trip and allow me to cover more ground!

South America

I am considering a trip down through south America this fall. I rode to costa rica in 2008 on a klr. Now I have an 09 GSA. I did the last trip alone but wouldn't mind riding with some other like minded souls. I am 60 and pretty experienced with motorcycle travel. I should mention . My girl friend would love to go with me as a passenger and i might consider it if we rode with another couple.

If anyone is interested let me know.

Jim

A few replies in one...

Jeff,
Keep me in mind. I plan to be puttering south from Wisconsin in early November:freezing:. Glad to hear there are other wanderers suffering similar delusions. I headed out on my own but wouldn't mind meeting some compadres along the road.

I'm going to shoot for the east coast of Mexico and do the Yucatan & Belize before joining the Pan-Am and heading for Ushuaia. If our paths intersect I'd like to have a buddy for as long or as little as we feel inclined. However, it's my first trip south, so I don't think I'll be much help in the linguistic or information department

Johan,
I'd like to pick your brain, I'll be heading down on my CB 650. It's good to hear I'm not the only one skipping a fancy Dual-Sport. What sort of preparations are you thinking?

Sprint,
Sorry about the knee. Hope your recovery goes quicker then you expect.

Miles,
A Ural?!! That's awesome!
I'll be taking my time and camping quiet a bit as well.
I hope I'm not so slow that I can't catch up with you.
Would love to share the road for a ways and see how your machine handles the trip.

See you all out there.
Keep my on your lists, my folks would be able to sleep better if they knew I wasn't the only two wheeled lunatic bounding across Latin America.

Riding South

We, two up KTM 990 Adventure, will be riding back ( 3rd X ) through
S.A. this Fall and Winter. Leaving around the first of November.

Shipping the moto to Colombia, ridden through Central America
several times and not interested in riding through again.
I'm thinking RO/Ro to Cartegena, where we will chill for a few weeks.
It seems like Gaston S.A., who posts here and on advrider, has
several shipping options which will work.

We'll be on as many secondary and dirt roads as possible and will
be stopping in agreeable locations for multiple days, weeks.
We don't really need to be back in Idaho until June, but will want to
be in Terria Del Fuego again by late January.

Most likely we will do a week long pack trip around the Towers of
Paine.

It's always nice to get together with other HUBBers on the road.
So stay in touch and be sure to share your stories and other info
of importance here for all to use.

Hello all :)
I hope I get to see you out there and maybe share a mile or two (or fewbier).
I'm Leaving Connecticut right after Labor day weekend (I hope) and I will ride down the coast line (BP, Deal's gap, etc) than take a right turn and cross to Mexico right above Big Bend park and ride into C.C. ( I know its wet there in that time but I should be there in second half of Sept. so fingers crossed)
And that's it as far the planning goes lol.
After that I would like to make my way down to Panama than ship (air?) the bike to Colombia and ride S.A. for a while, maybe with luck see the Dakar rally :), no time limit and on very tight budget :mchappy:.

OK I'm a 41 years old, soon to be unemployed Polish dude that rides 2003 BMW R1150GSA (I like the bike, I worked hard to pay it off and I will keep it till one of us drops... lol)
I'm very easy to get along with, plus I can take a halfway decent pictures so at least you will have that when we meet :)

cheers

Jerry

Want to go but no bike.

Just want to throw my hat into the ring here as well.

I'm an Aussie who would like to get involved in this ride by buying a bike in the USA. Problem is that I don't reside there and am having trouble finding out if I can legally buy, register and insure a bike there.

I have a friend living in Arizona who I think would allow me to use his address but still not sure if this is enough.

Anyone got any experience or ideas on this?

Thinking of heading over to LA early October to buy and prepare the bike (DR650), do a bit of a test run around the Arizona area for a week and then look at hooking up with one or more others to head south in November/December.

Cheers
Robin
