End of the World (South America) at the End of the Year?

Greetings folks,

I'm thinking that this year (my 56th) may be MY year to visit the Americas. Hoping to leave the Pacific Northwest (WA) aboard a 2005 DR-650 in the Nov-Dec time frame, heading south (probably thru Baja). Ideally I'll make it to Buenos Aires by March, but I've got great latitude with respect to timing, route, and ultimate destination.

Thought I'd check-in to see if anybody else might be suffering similar delusions (and might even be seeking full/part-time accompaniment as they wandered).

I'd also be interested in hearing from those of you who have some experience/recommendations for the care and feeding of a DR while in foreign lands. I believe I learned a lot about the bike on an Arctic Circle run I made in 2009 (to Inuvik and Deadhorse), but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little concerned about the logistic (and linguistic) challenges of this trip.

Interest and/or Insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jeff,

Welcome to HU. One quick comment is that the peak season to be far south is December/January so if you it works out that you can't leave until late in the year, you many want to consider shipping your bike down to BA or Valapariso and then riding back home. If you can leave earlier than the time you indicated, then there is a good chance that others will be on the road south at roughly the same time. Happy riding.

Nomadman 21 Mar 2011 04:24

Hey Jeff,
I'm working on a plan to ride down from Ohio beginning in mid or late October (later than originally planned, but seemingly unavoidable). Since it IS a late start for parts south, I'm thinking of just boat freighting the GS down to Cartagena and skipping Centr. Amer. until the return north. However, I'm pretty flexible on all of this.

Hmmm...same age, similar approach to this trip, similar linguistics...drop a line here and we'll see what's what.

Hello--Since I don't have the required 5 posts I couldn't PM you. Anyhow, I'm located in Berea,OH, a suburb of Cleveland and planning to depart south about mid Sept. Will probably ride my '92GSPD unless a '99 R1100GS pops up. Just thought I'd throw it out there. Regards. John O'Leary

Do you have any information on shipping yet? Costs, loading ports etc?

Thanks Growler

Nomadman 5 Apr 2011 01:14

Hey, BereaHorn- We should exchange info. I don't have the necessary number of post yet in order to PM you, so this will do until then. I'll keep my eye out for an 1100GS for you in the meantime (though I would kill to have my old PD back...). Keep posting to this thread and we'll talk.
Cheers,
John B.

Nomadman 5 Apr 2011 01:19

Hey Growler,
I'm short on the PM requirement, too. The scant shipping info I obtained was cursory at best. I'd been thinking to ship from Miami into Carta.. Let me get my notes in order here. Are you contemplating a similar thing? I'd go the land route (excepting the Gap, of course) with proper encouragement, but again: I'm flexible. Let me know what you're thinking.
Cheers,
John B.

John O',
I'm zipping down to Mississippi for the weekend, leaving Thurs. morn, taking the long way down, expediting back. Camping at Dogwood Trail Rally. Go?

John, I sent an answer to your email. Am, also considering a DR650 as a possible bike instead of the '92PD but haven't made a firm decision. Have been spending time preparing the PD for the trip. When the weather breaks I'll be able to get out to the garage and get serious. As I mentioned I'll probably be leaving the Cleveland area mid-Sept. but don't know date certain when I'll cross the border. Let me know your plans as they firm up. Regards. John

"End of the World (South America) at the End of the Year?" ??

Doesn't the Mayan calendar run out this year? Ending the world!
While your down there mate would you mind tying another knot in that rope calendar they used to record time ?
I still have some rides planned and need a few more yearsbier

Nomadman 6 Apr 2011 02:48

Absolutely, twobob! Consider MANY knots tied into that thing.

I'm not heading out until September 2012 but looking at shipping into South America from say Miami to driving all the way down and then shipping home from BA. Have some time yet, just trying to consider all options.

Heading South

Jeff and John,

I'm thinking of taking 30 days off of work to head south this winter. Leaving from San Diego in November or December. We may be able to hook up for the first part of your adventure. I would hope to get to Panama and ship the bike home. Another idea would be to get several bikes in one container to ship from the west coast to SA. I ride a gs1200 and have made several trips to baja and northern mexico. I'm pretty flexible just need to plan ahead for the work thing.

Hi all,

By the time Fall 2011 rolls around I'll be in my 55th year with the idea (a plan would be a misnomer) of riding South to Argentina on my yet to be acquired 2011 KLR650. The old '08 is getting a little tired.

My hopeful departure date from Ottawa Ontario would be sometime in October(ish) following an 8 week ride to Eastern Canada this summer. Plan to try and pick up some Spanish before then to enhance the SA experience.

So, I've subscribed to the thread and I'm just throwing my name out there in case something comes together and a few of us possibly end up sharing some riding time etc. I'm open to the idea of shipping, totally flexible as to route, timeline etc. I don't have a return date in mind. Might ship from SA to Africa and continue on my merry way.

I'm in Vietnam/Thailand at the moment and if anyone ever has the opportunity to ride this part of the world I highly recommend it.

Cheers ... Greg

Hey SprintST, when you get to Nova Scotia, give me a call or drop me a line. I'm in the camping list, We're on the Bay of Fundy and can offer soft grass or a soft bed, good food and cold beer. In payment you'll have to let me pick your brain about heading south.

S America later this year.

G'day Jeff, I'm an Australian (in my 62nd year) planning to ship my bike (F650GS twin) to Buenos Aires, Ar, end of November this year. Plan is to head south to Ushuaia then basically up the Pan Am to arrive in Deadhorse AK in July 2012. I'll be joined in the US with dos companyeras de motocicleta. I plan to track via Altanta GA to see my daughter, son-in-law and grandson, and stop by in Seattle WA to visit friends. My timing's probably not co-incident with yours, but I thought I would let you know what I'm up to anyway. I cannot help much with trip logistics or linguistics as I'm basically a novice; however, I did spend six weeks in Ecuador last year trying (not very successfully) to learn a bit of Spanish. cheers, John

same plan

High folks,

We are 2 Belguims and we are planning to make a trip from SA - Canada (or as foar as the money brings us) . We will arrive around Chrismas in Buenos Aires with a boat from Grimaldi-lines (Antwerp - BA: 4 weeks). Maybe we will catch up with some of you, in real live or on the HU. We don't have much of a plan, because we want to think about it in the 4 weeks on the ship as well as we will learn spanish in that time. :confused1:
I'm riding a BMW 1200 R, but I just bought a nice secondhand F 650 GS for the big trip. Johan is riding a Honda 750 CB and still don't know if he will go with this one or buy an other one. Some advice?

see you

Greetings John,

Glad to hear from a dreamer in the old neighborhood. Spent a few years in Upper Arlington in the mid 90's while the ex was earning her doctorate at THE Ohio State University.

My original thoughts involved riding both ways, but my conservative nature implored me to PLAN to ride one way (south) and fly back (from Buenos Aires or Rio). IF you WOULDN'T be heart broken if you DIDN'T get to ride both ways, maybe we should consider shipping to an Atlantic port and riding home.

Regardless of what you decide, we should keep in touch. I plan to be in Ohio in July (to attend the National Matches at Camp Perry and the Vintage Grand Championships in Lexington) so maybe we could meet, break some bread, and revel in our wanderlust.

Greetings John (yet another respondent with this given name...),

I'll add you to my contact list. Regardless of whether or not we meet up in SA, you're welcome to use my place as a rest/repair site when you and your companions get to the northwest (I'm about 55 mi south of Seattle). One of my riding buddies circumnavigated your homeland on a DL-650 in 2007 and I would never hear the end of it if I failed to reciprocate the hospitality he enjoyed while "down under".

Greetings Greg,

Glad to hear from you. Southeast Asia is also on my "bucket list". Your comment regarding Eastern Canada triggered memories of a run I made out to Newfoundland/Labrador via the Gaspe Peninsula back in 2007. Hope you have a good trip.

When are you heading for the Maritimes? I expect to be in Vermont the second week in August (for a bike ralley) so maybe our paths could cross before we set our sights for the southern hemisphere.

Hey y'all. I could probably be talked into a SA trip...I have NOT been able to find a suitable means of getting a moto to SA from the USA...unless a 20' container is used. If anyone has better info please share it. I have a 91 R100GS, traveled throughout Mexico several times plus belieze ,Guatamala...would really like to visit SA. 64 yrs old in excellent shape. Doing the Inca trail hike in Sept and RIM-RIM Grand camyon June. Not interested in camping. Rather stay in low-moderate hotels. I live in the Phoenix area. I would probably buy a used KLR650 for this trip.....I have also heard that you can sell your moto in Uraguay...that would sure make the logistica easier if this is so.
Happy travels, Roger

El Fin Del Mundo

I'm thinking I'll ride back to SA again, starting this October. I got back from Ushuaia last June, rode across the US last Fall and got back from a month of riding around New Zealand in March. Plan to go up to Alaska in late June stopping by the Calgary Stampede in early July.
I'm now in Los Angeles area, speak Spanish, have done this ride recently, and ride a DR650. I'm another senior at 65. My last trip to SA was mostly solo, but wouldn't mind some company.

Hi Bhamjb,

I haven't been getting any updates to this thread so I thought I'd check in. Maybe due to website upgrades or ? Regardless, your Eastern Canada trip is pretty much what I've got planned as well.

One recent fly in the ointment is that I buggered up my left knee trekking in Vietnam and might require surgery. Went for an MRI tonight in fact. Should know shortly. Not thrilled since I had ACL reconstruction on my other knee last fall and it's not even back to 100% yet, so I know what the recovery period is like. One summer with next to no riding :(. Aging is not for sissies.

I'll keep checking in folks with my fingers crossed.

Heading South

I'm also thinking to head back south again this September or October. I'm on an '06 DR650 and am 65. I got back from riding from California to Ushuaia and back last June, so I may be able to help and/or join up with some folks.

On my way back north, I met another motorcyclist in Panama who was heading south. He had been robbed twice in Guatemala, both times were with guns. It seems like it would be safer to travel in a group, although my trip was solo for most of the way.

Safety ... always a consideration. Part of the reason I wouldn't mind riding with at least one other moto, for certain legs of the journey at least. I'm sure a pack of seniors would be a handful for any bandito :scooter:.

Howdy All;

We (my wife and I) will be leaving Sept 17. from Calgary Canada, heading to The end aswell. Keep us in the loop or as potential riding compatriots.

You just have to be slow! We are riding an Ural and it just don't go that fast!

We plan to camp a bunch and hotel as well - Lets meet up.

Another one all ears...

Guess it won't hurt to throw my name in the hat - at least the hat of lurkers..!

I feel the winds of change coming too. Fed up with the job and I've been feeling the pull of a moto trip for the last few months. The Prudoe Bay to Ushuaia trip is tops on my list, but heading south from the lower 48 would certainly be an option. I'm 49, in northern Colorado. One immediate plan is a trip to the NW (WABDR...Tour of Idaho) and possibly joining the HU Travellers meeting in Nakusp, BC in late August. Might be a good precursor to a longer 6-12 month, tour thereafter.

I ride a 1200GSA currently, but might size down. I've been looking at 650 XChallenge, with some touring friendly conversions, as I want to do the western TAT someday too.

SUBSCRIBED!

Mike

milesmcewing 20 May 2011 03:01

We'll be in Nakusp in Aug. Look us up! or drop by Calgary for a visit too.

Also in the UK for the meeting, looks like a year of meetings!

Happy Trails,

Well, I fit the age bracket and then some and unless China starts being nice to bikers I should be in BA most likely at Dakar Motors bijou boutique doss around the 13th Sep. planning to hit the Valdes peninsula for whale playtime then south before turning north. If anyone is interested I don't mind riding solo but I do like drinking in company. Ride safe.

Shibby! 26 May 2011 04:45

Hey guys,

I'm 28, from Calgary as well and hope to head south for as long as I can this fall. Planning for 3 months at least. I'd love to do S.A, but I'd have to see. More time isn't really an issue, it just means more planning and more money. The biggest issues are my dog and house.

Either way, if it happens I may bump into some of you along the way. I plan to ride what I have, and that's currently a XR650R dualsported at the moment. Just looking at the best ways of carrying luggage. Recently got back from 4000km's in Baja with a GL Coyote bag, and although a great way of carrying items on a dirt bike/dual sport, it's simply not big enough for a trip like this. Currently thinking Dirtbagz, then the Promoto Rake it rack, and a hard top case for the electronics. Should get me around 60liters which is twice as big as the Coyote and probably more then I need.

At the moment I have a buddy in Venezuela stirring me on.. Says it's the single best thing he's ever done.

I am very curious about the shipping back from S.A. That's something I'll have to look into and could actually simplify my trip and allow me to cover more ground!

hi jeff

What have you figured out as far as US money needed? Or have you? I have been kicking around idea of this,,,one of the things i want to do at sometime is ca, to costa rica,,,last feb to march, two friends and i were in baja, youll find that area is a blast, the mex people are very friendly and seem to go out of there way to help, we played mostly out in the desert while there, great trip. no issues,,,alot of military crossing tho,,,,watch the firearms, dont want to do jail there! Its funny, both my friends are in wash, also,,,snohomish wa, don siewert and dale dielerling, but anyways your trip make me drool!bier

South America

I am considering a trip down through south America this fall. I rode to costa rica in 2008 on a klr. Now I have an 09 GSA. I did the last trip alone but wouldn't mind riding with some other like minded souls. I am 60 and pretty experienced with motorcycle travel. I should mention . My girl friend would love to go with me as a passenger and i might consider it if we rode with another couple.

If anyone is interested let me know.

Jeff,
Keep me in mind. I plan to be puttering south from Wisconsin in early November:freezing:. Glad to hear there are other wanderers suffering similar delusions. I headed out on my own but wouldn't mind meeting some compadres along the road.

I'm going to shoot for the east coast of Mexico and do the Yucatan & Belize before joining the Pan-Am and heading for Ushuaia. If our paths intersect I'd like to have a buddy for as long or as little as we feel inclined. However, it's my first trip south, so I don't think I'll be much help in the linguistic or information department

Johan,
I'd like to pick your brain, I'll be heading down on my CB 650. It's good to hear I'm not the only one skipping a fancy Dual-Sport. What sort of preparations are you thinking?

Sprint,
Sorry about the knee. Hope your recovery goes quicker then you expect.

Miles,
A Ural?!! That's awesome!
I'll be taking my time and camping quiet a bit as well.
I hope I'm not so slow that I can't catch up with you.
Would love to share the road for a ways and see how your machine handles the trip.

See you all out there.
Keep my on your lists, my folks would be able to sleep better if they knew I wasn't the only two wheeled lunatic bounding across Latin America.

Riding South

We, two up KTM 990 Adventure, will be riding back ( 3rd X ) through
S.A. this Fall and Winter. Leaving around the first of November.

Shipping the moto to Colombia, ridden through Central America
several times and not interested in riding through again.
I'm thinking RO/Ro to Cartegena, where we will chill for a few weeks.
It seems like Gaston S.A., who posts here and on advrider, has
several shipping options which will work.

We'll be on as many secondary and dirt roads as possible and will
be stopping in agreeable locations for multiple days, weeks.
We don't really need to be back in Idaho until June, but will want to
be in Terria Del Fuego again by late January.

Most likely we will do a week long pack trip around the Towers of
Paine.

It's always nice to get together with other HUBBers on the road.
So stay in touch and be sure to share your stories and other info
of importance here for all to use.

Hello all :)
I hope I get to see you out there and maybe share a mile or two (or fewbier).
I'm Leaving Connecticut right after Labor day weekend (I hope) and I will ride down the coast line (BP, Deal's gap, etc) than take a right turn and cross to Mexico right above Big Bend park and ride into C.C. ( I know its wet there in that time but I should be there in second half of Sept. so fingers crossed)
And that's it as far the planning goes lol.
After that I would like to make my way down to Panama than ship (air?) the bike to Colombia and ride S.A. for a while, maybe with luck see the Dakar rally :), no time limit and on very tight budget :mchappy:.

OK I'm a 41 years old, soon to be unemployed Polish dude that rides 2003 BMW R1150GSA (I like the bike, I worked hard to pay it off and I will keep it till one of us drops... lol)
I'm very easy to get along with, plus I can take a halfway decent pictures so at least you will have that when we meet :)

cheers

Jerry

Thanks for the info I will look into it

robtho 2 Aug 2011 01:50

Want to go but no bike.

Just want to throw my hat into the ring here as well.

I'm an Aussie who would like to get involved in this ride by buying a bike in the USA. Problem is that I don't reside there and am having trouble finding out if I can legally buy, register and insure a bike there.

I have a friend living in Arizona who I think would allow me to use his address but still not sure if this is enough.

Anyone got any experience or ideas on this?

Thinking of heading over to LA early October to buy and prepare the bike (DR650), do a bit of a test run around the Arizona area for a week and then look at hooking up with one or more others to head south in November/December.

Cheers
Robin

Found it

Sorry about the previous posting without searching first.

I found the info I was after here: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-newyork-56554

Still interested to see anything that anyone has to add to that though.

Growler 2 Aug 2011 03:18

Hey SprintST, how's the knee coming along, will you be ready to head south in 2012?

Growler

Edited to add, 365 days to go the countdown is on for me

SprintST 3 Aug 2011 03:05

Hi Growler,

Thanks for enquiring. I've got a date with the surgeon on August 15th. Turns out only the meniscus is torn, so the recovery period should be much shorter than last time.

My plan is to head towards Florida the second week of October with a couple of buddies, on my new DR650. I'll leave them there and make my way in the direction of Mexico and beyond. Pretty loose plans though. Have to wait and see what's what at the time.

Cheers!

Guillaume 10 Aug 2011 14:21

Happy to see there will be a few other HUBBers on the road to SA this year.

I'm heading down from Montreal leaving the 17th of october (work imposed) with my mighty KLR and heading all the way to Ushuaia. Gonna go straight through the states and down the east coast of Mexico to make time. Will fly from panama to Columbia (I get real sea sick). I'm going down the ANDES to Ushuaia then back up through the east coast through brazil then back home. I have a year.

Sure hope I will get to meet some of you down the road.

I always appreciate meeting interesting people of all ages.

Feel free to PM me if one of you think we might be in the same region at the same time.

First drink is on me :)

garrydymond 10 Aug 2011 22:19

If any of you are interested in coming to Mexico City we can put you up. Send me a PM and we can arrange it. The city is great and we have been told (although I don't believe it) that we are good hosts.

Texas to Tiera del Fuego

Hi Jeff and others,

I'm heading south in early September from Austin, Texas. I'm 44, fit, experienced traveler in Latin America, speak Spanish and riding a DR650. I'm interested in riding with like minded folks for some or all the way. I have a plan, but not an itenerary. The plan is to take my time. If anyone is heading the same way about the same time, I'd be interested in talking.

I've started a website that has my loose plan and gear list. I'd love to hear your feedback on the packing list. THE ADVENTURE BEGINS.

HUBB meeting in California Oct. 14-16

I'm going to attend the HUBB meeting in Cali on my way South. Will be leaving Ottawa Ontario on October 1st and stopping to visit someone in Des Moines along the way until October 10th.

HU is offering an off-road riding course for $60 at the event. That will be a big bonus for me and my new DR.

Lots to do before then though. Just a matter of getting down to it.

Anyone else on this thread planning on going to the HU meeting?

Jantarek 20 Sep 2011 18:43

I'm off, I left CT already but staying for few days in Ithaca NY
tomorrow I'm hitting the road again and I will travel to Deal's gap, than make my way to Big bend and cross to Mexico,
I hope to see you out there
Jerry

Hey Hickery: same age, leaving Nova Scotia, August 2012 for TDF:clap:, hope to be down there for Christmas and back to BA to see the DAKAR start in January. What month were you planning to leave?

Hi Folks,
Hoping to be in Ushuaia for xmas but I don't finish work for another month and I haven't bought the bike yet. Hopefully see some of you there or on the road.

Update

Just thought I'd drop in with an update. Things are going on schedule. I'm in Des Moines and will be leaving for Denver on Saturday to pick up some bike bits.

From there on to the HU meeting in California. Hope the nice weather holds.

Cheers!

Lot's to do yet, but gearing up to leave late October or early November from Los Angeles area. I'll probably stay on mainland to save some time. Baja next time.

Anybody able to ride along?

IF all goes to plan, I'll be crossing over to Baja around first week of November.

Riding a "dual sport" too (XR650R).

Coming from Moab.

Baja on Way to "El Fin de Mundo"

I'd consider going down through Baja, but it depends on how "off road" you plan to go and how much of the time. The reason I say this is that I just semi-retired my DR650 and picked up a Wee Strom DL650, which I am outfitting for this trip to El Fin de Mundo.

What a mistake!! =) Kidding. The Vstrom would likely be the bike I'd buy if I were to go adventure touring. Maybe test the dark side in a BMW 800 but that would would take some serious persuasion and guilt.

Baja can be traveled with nice paved roads but IMO, you'll miss much of it. With that said, I don't know if I'd want to attempt some of the other alternatives on a heavy bike.. Still not difficult but it would beat your machine pretty good. Those roads are ROUGH. Often taking the side roads/trails/ditches are smoother and where I spent most of my time, but then you can run into deep sand, and worse yet the deep pea sized gravel. Oh.. and the 4' high whoops made by the Baja trucks. These are only on side trails though.

You could still do the San Falipe - Alfonsinia's loop if you don't mind rough roads and some sand. Guys on GS12's do it. Same with some of the roads around Mike's Sky Ranch.

Don't let me scare you off. There are definite benefits to venturing off the tarmac. Really depends on your set-up, and desire to ride it. Otherwise I could suggest riding the salt flats west of San Ignacio. From what I remember it was mostly easy and quite interesting. Not sure if this changes with season though...(soupy and wet!). When we rolled through in Feb it was like buttery smooth pavement and had no issues riding off the road onto the flats although that sucked the gas back pretty quick, it was pretty fun!

With this info I assume you have never been. If you know Baja, please ignore it =)

I'll be attempting to once again ride it all off-road.

This doesn't have to stop us from meeting up though. I'd be interested in meeting someplace for a beer and bite. Discuss routes, travel plans, etc. I'm hoping to bump into people at some point with a similar plan as me. At the very least bump into others going across at La Paz.

markandjan 11 Oct 2011 00:23

Hi Motoman, My wife and are heading to TDF as well from Canada leaving mid/late October. Would like to get a dialog with you.
We are on a gs1200. I have been to the Baja before and we will ride the mainland through Mexico.
I do not have enough messages to PM you.

Travel South

Markandjan,
Since I just got an '04 Wee Strom, I'm having to outfit it to leave for long term travel and it will take me to late October to be ready. I have to wait for title and driver's license to come through also. Have passport and Mexican insurance.

I'm very flexible as to route and I could catch up down in Mexico.
I have no deadlines nor strong preferences. I would like to stop for a couple days in Costa Rica to visit family and friends.

Sounds good. There still may be a few of us leaving around the same time.

When I get my stuff in order I'll probably be PM'ing some of you for contact information. I'll also have Skype eventually. It's nice to know somebody is in the general vicinity and can lend a helping hand or simply somebody to gain info / speak english with once in awhile.

My general timeline will have me in LaPaz middle to end of Novemeber. Really depends how much time I take to explore things. Then likely crossing over to Mazatlan and then up to Durango and south before coming back to the coast.

Zigeuner53 12 Oct 2011 14:29

Santa Fe NM to Baja and south Dec 1-

Leaving Santa Fe 1st week of December or last week of November to Baja for a month, then on to Guatemala slowly.

If snowing here in SF, will rent/share a Uhaul maybe to Tucson ?

Sounds like you will be a week behind me, and approx 2 weeks behind another Calgarian who left this Monday to the HU meeting in Cali (Brad, you can find a post of his on here. Riding a Vstrom 650). I'm sure after that meeting there will be a pulse of riders ahead of us heading south.

You'll probably catch me in Baja somewhere if I poke around and explore a bit. Once I get to Baja I will slow down. Check out some Missionaries, try new trails, hang with the surfers like a bum, and get lost.

Hope to do ~300 mile days from Moab- Grand Canyon - South. Off road of course so I imagine some of that will be back tracking =)

PM me your info of estimated leave/direction and maybe we can meet up for a beer somewhere.

pweigand 19 Oct 2011 20:18

Hi everybody.

We (my girlfriend Irena and I) are on a RTW starting from Croatia on two road bikes Yamaha FZ6 and Moto Guzzi Breva 750. We are writing some sort of a diary on Earth on wheels - Earth on wheels so take a look.

We are already here in NY but have some problems with customs etc but if all goes well we'll get our bikes this Friday and then we'll head down the East coast (Florida, cost of Mexico gulf) and then Mexico and further south. We would really like to group with someone when we get somewhere near Mexico border since everybody here in NY is saying that it can get quite dangerous...

We've been looking around this thread but we didn't know when we'll get our bikes so we didn't contact anyone. What are your final plans? Maybe we can catch up with some of you since we don't have any hard set plans. We would maybe just visit our Croatian friends in Miami...

motomon 20 Oct 2011 08:08

Update

markandjan should have left, or are just about to leave BC. I'm about a week from being ready. That puts the three of us crossing from AZ into Mexico about Oct 28.
Anybody else around? :welcome:

arooni 30 Oct 2011 21:38

hi folks.

I'm headed to Argentina albeit slowly; I'm currently in Puerto Escondido; but you can track my progress here: SPOT Shared Page

I'd love to meet up with others on the trip.

Best,

Hey Jeff,

We'll be heading in the opposite direction, heading down the East coast of Argentina while you are coming up, or heading up the Chilean coast as you come down. Either way, might be nice to meet up and have a beer? Our details are on our website adelaidetoanchorage.com or contact me at adelaidetoanchorage@gmail.com and we'll put the wheels in motion...

Cheers.

Hi guys, are you still in NY? We are having a little Horizons Unlimited get together next week if you would like to join us. It will be in Brooklyn.

HaChayalBoded 1 Nov 2011 18:57

Is anyone leaving a bit later? Two of us are considering NYC-Brazil for new years. Estimates on time from the Mexican border to Brazil is roughly 3-4 weeks. Does that sound right to everyone?

Considering you have a week just to cross the Darien Gap... probably not.

BTW, I'm crossing into Baja tomorrow. Will be ready tonight for an early departure! Hope to do lots of back roads after Alfonsenia's (SP?)
