Presentationtasticness
We're still receiving registrations from new presenters, so the first draft of the schedule is still at least a couple of weeks away. As always, it'll be subject to change, but I'll post it on here and the event page once all the presenters have had a chance to comment on it.
We already have over 60 presenters signed-up to give talks and demos, including more "new to HU" than ever before. The event page lists most of them with links to their websites/blogs. We're very fortunate that Ted Simon will be with us again and he'll be joined by nine of The Ted Simon Foundation's Jupiter's Travellers, including Bernard Smith, Dom Giles, Anna McNuff and Graham Field. Also look out for the sessions with Helen Lloyd, recently returned from a fascinating cycle/horseback journey across Mongolia and now planning her next adventure on a motorcycle, and Jon Beardmore who'll be talking about his 4x4 Silk Road journey. The irrepressible Ed March will be back again with his ever-entertaining understated style and Austin Vince returns with more film-making wisdom. Arriving at the event at the end of their "Europe Ride", Grant and Susan are giving various talks, including Grant reprising his legendary tyre-changing demonstration. Tom Allen and Jasper Ditton are both hosting sessions about blogging from on the road and a must-see for all those interested in cycle-touring will be father and son duo Tom and Richard Seipp. |

As the person who broached the subject in this thread I can only add that I wasn't asking for big screens on the campsite or bunches of rowdies singing footie songs long into the night. Just a quiet room or corner where students of the game can enjoy the tournament. It shouldn't affect anyone else so why not live and let live? And remember this is the World Cup we're talking about, not Liverpool vs Man Utd. It's a festival of colour and fun and togetherness, designed to get peoples of all nations together to celebrate a pastime they love and share...just like HUBB UK! I'd say the two have a lot in common (quite apart from inconveniently being on at the same time grumblemumble) :) |

I know, rubbish organisers (grumblemumble) :innocent: We'll do what we can to sort it and will let you know the plan if we can, so what's next?
A bit of traditional HUBB UK Chill factor going on methinks. The shot was taken by Mike West last year. Recognise these in the relaxed mode guys? |
Just a quiet room or corner

World Cup coverage
As promised, Sam and I have come up with a plan to make the Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening games watchable for those that really want to.
Thanks to Code Audio Visual, who're already sponsoring the Threshing Barn and Marquee Cinema (and make all the presentation electrickery work for us so well), we'll be turning the Stag Room over to football for the 5pm and 8pm games each day. Because the rooms have to be locked-up at a sensible time, the 11pm games won't be available to watch. The Stag Room is the best location for a variety of reasons, but does have limited space, so it'll be first come, first seated. To avoid disrupting other stuff happening nearby in the courtyard and marquee (and to minimise outside noise competing with the game commentary) the door will need to stay closed during each match. I hope this will be a compromise solution that keeps everyone happy. |
Live Music in the Orchard
This year we've got live music on both the Friday and Saturday nights in the "Orchard" where you'll also find Danny and Fil's Roadkill Cookout and the Fire Drums.
Steve McGill returns to us again on the Friday night and then the Saturday night will round-off with the sounds of Radio Mary. See the demo videos towards the bottom of the event page for a taster of what you can expect. |
How to get there
For those of you who're going to HUBB UK for the first time next month, you can download a copy of the How To Get There Guide for detailed destructions.

Reminiscing
Can't remember when we last posted this, but with only just over a month to go now seems like a good time for another look back at last year's event...

I've just been having a very enjoyable time reading through the feedback survey from last year - as in, ' with what we are doing this year, are we missing out on improvements that have been suggested?'
We've done lots - those of you who made suggestions will see the results. As you guys will have seen from the HUBB UK event page, overwhelmingly the feedback was great (phew!) especially as it was the first time we were all at Donington. Thank you very much to everyone who filled in the feedback form/link. It's really helped us this year. Of course there are 'one or two' things we haven't managed to do. One person suggested that everyone should have free cakes on arrival... I think I might make multiple arrivals :D One person asked how to get to know who to talk to about travelling in the parts of the world he was interested in. That's one of the reasons we have name badges. They are your event pass but also a great way of remembering people's names and finding out who you can gather info from. One person asked if they, as a local and not staying on site at night, could volunteer. Coo, yes please. Last year we had over 120 people kindly volunteer to help. Most did a couple of 2 hour shifts. Some got stuck in and went for it like Trojans. We really want to thank everyone who did muck in. You are the people who made everything run as smoothly as it did. Cheers!:thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1: At the moment, we are still short of 36 volunteers. I wonder if you are up for helping out? It's a great way to meet people and well, it's fun. I'm told that applies even to cleaning loos! :eek3: If you could spare a few hours over the 4 days would you mind completing this Volunteer link please. It's for people who have already registered but not volunteered at the time. If you could put yourself down for a couple of crews then I can slot you in. The Presentation Crew will need considerably more hours from you and good IT skills ( the bonus being that not only do you get to help the presenters but you have front row for lots of presentations), and the Registration Crew role will need at least 2 x 4 hour slots because there's more to organise. On all the other crews a couple of 2 hours slots would be grand. One of the other feedback things we've had from quite a few people was that there weren't enough site maps around. There will be this time - and some will be much bigger! :thumbup1: Another feedback was that the presentation schedules posters were in too small print. Sorted for this year! :D This photo from Last year is by Artyom Liss. Thanks mate. |

Just a thought, Iain and I are going to be at the BMF Show in Peterborough on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. We'll be in the Adventure Overland hall. If anyone fancies popping over for a 'Hello' please do.
Bring friends who haven't been to the HUBB UK before with you. Happy to share the buzz with them. You can also pick up flyers from us for the Dover to Donington ride with Grant and Susan. |

Presentation Preview
Just over a month to get myself organised for two presentations that I hope will amuse, enthuse and inspire fellow HUBBERS at what promises to be another outstanding event - so no pressure then!
My first offering of '54 Not Out' reflects a life time of travel to many parts of the world, interspersed with adventures closer to home and will last around 90 minutes. Photos and anecdotes will be supported by a look at some of the essential kit I use with my 'expedition vehicle' (don't get your hopes up Unimog fans) available for closer inspection on the campsite during the entire event. Questions from the floor will be welcome but for a more personal touch bring a mug to the van for a brew and a biccy. A second presentation will look in more detail at a two year trip to NZ and Oz with the trusty bus shipped from Southampton to Auckland, then Sydney and out of Perth back to the UK. Wonderful memories compressed in to 40 minutes which will eat in to QnA's so again drop by the van for more detailed info. If you really can't wait until June have a nose round Travellers Tales and make use of the 'search' facility. Translation is also available courtesy the Google Widget. See you there and safe travels. Simon Jarratt  |

HI Sam,
I saw the announcement for the ride Dover-Donington with Grant and Susan. I like the idea riding with them and I´m happy that I´m in Englang at at that time. Where can I find some further information about starting time or meeting point? Cause I have to change some plans riding the south of UK then. Could you help me? Tabea |
Because I'm feeling a bit pooped after the BMF show I'm sitting having a ride down memory lane this morning. There are quite a few Youtube films from previous years of the HUBB UK out there and they've all made me smile. What a brilliant atmosphere. This one is from Louise Wilson. :thumbup1:

Another smile of the morning is this one from Greg with music from Austin. Love it! 31 days to go

It’s just 30 days to go!!!! The HUBB UK starts on Thursday the 19th of June.
"What a FANTASTIC event!!!!! We found the atmosphere totally different to our usual events; everyone was so friendly – it was almost like one big family. We found the talks inspiring... the HUBB event isn’t a show – rather it is a ‘gathering of like-minded people’, and we decided we liked that very much." Love that :thumbup1: |
Old Hubb attendee and now with children...
Hi all
Been a while since I came to an event. A long while.. and lots happened :) I met a guy a work recently who mentioned the Hubb and I decided to have a look at the site again. Upon visiting (it looks great by the way), I see it's expanded out to 4x4's and bicycles (my latest mode of overland transport). Great stuff! I have a Mitsubishi Delica these days (fitted with a snorkel to keep the dream alive), and two little children (one is nearly 3 and other is 10 months). Question - would it be suitable for my wife and I to attend the Donnington event with Delica, 4 man tent and the two little ones? We would just lap up the atmosphere really as although I would love to go to the evening talks, I understand they wouldn't be allowed, which is fine of course as they'll be asleep. If not maybe we will come again another year :) |
Hi Spud, great to hear you’ll be back! Looking forward to catching up on your news.
Suitable? Absolutely! You’ll all be very welcome. HU loves the idea of starting overlanders young. The real thing of course is you making sure that nowt happens to them. Bikes and Expedition vehicles, the fire drums etc H&S and all that means you have to take full responsibility, but you’ll be expecting that anyway. I’d be wrong if I didn’t point out that the event is aimed at adults and so there isn’t anything lined up for youngsters to do, but quite a few people have brought their kids over the years and we are told it works well for everyone – lots to see and around overlanders there’s always a great atmosphere eh. See you in a month I hope! :thumbup1: |
Films at HUBB UK
The big marquee cinema will be set up next to the main Threshing Barn presentation room again this year. Courtesy of sponsors, Code Audio Visual, it'll be even better than last time with two screens instead of one so that both the presenters and their presentations can be streamed together.
We'll be screening two films this year... 'Somewhere Else Tomorrow' by Jupiter's Traveller Daniel Rintz and 'Aim for the Horizon' by main event sponsor Adventure-Spec.com - here's a trailer to whet your appetite.... |

Sam has asked me to post a little taster of my presentations …
In 2010 I gave up my job to follow my dream and travel half way around the world. The HUBB, website and two Ripley meetings I went to gave me the confidence to do this trip so I am more than happy to share my thoughts and hopefully encourage others to do the same. I spend a year travelling from Alaska to Panama and then South Africa to Nairobi. I started out on my own, my wife came out for part of the trip and in southern Africa I met up with some other bikers and we rode together. Therefore I’m going to do a presentation on my experiences of riding solo, two–up and in a group. Each have their own benefits and challenges and I’ll be sharing my own, unique views with the aid of some photos and music. Attachment 12891 Also… Last summer I went to Norway and was blown away by this wonderful land. I only saw one other UK registered bike in 5 weeks. So I’ll also be doing a presentation on Norway encouraging more people to go there. If you like Scotland you’ll love Norway! When I’m not doing this I’ll be in the ‘Authors tent’ book signing. When I came back from my trip I got frustrated by people asking my which part was the most dangerous or suggesting I was in some way 'brave' to do this alone. The world is NOT a scary place, people are friendly and helpful and travelling like this is the best thing I have ever done. I wanted to share this with people so I decided to write a book. The Ted Simon Foundation helped me and ‘Gone Riding’ has been selling well since it was launched at the NEC in November. More importantly it’s been getting good reviews. So come along to grab a copy or just have a chat. Attachment 12890 |

I love the HUBB UK it is my favourite weekend in the year for so many reasons.
I also love to travel but as I guess is the case for most of us I do have restrictions. Welcome restrictions I must add like kids and a business to run. And so after very naively asking if I could present at this years event I am now looking at selling the fact that you do not need to do something covering many continents with months or years in the saddle. I had quite an adventure riding into the arctic circle at the beginning of winter, please come and have a look, I am on the list :confused1: |
A flavour of my talk: Adventure Blogging
Evening all!
Sam asked me to give a flavour of my talk: Adventure Blogging - Learn how to blog from the road. So first a bit of background... The first Hubb I attended was in 2003 after a trip around Morocco with my good friend Dave (Adventure Spec) where I gave my first talk: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-7...h577-no/64.jpg At the time I was working as a website developer but the lure of adventure was too much so I filled a Citroen C15D with adventure sports gear and headed off around Europe for a year and a half that involved a ski season, mountaineering, off-road riding in Romania and a few beers. This was the first time I kept a blog as I travelled, writing up my escapades as they happened. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-f...o/DSC01541.JPG Upon arriving back in the UK, I changed jobs to manage website development projects working for marketing agencies. A house purchase in 2007 took away the adventure opportunity for a while so at the 2008 HUBB, to get me back into the spirit, I did a video talk on "Building the Bionic Adventure Biker" with the great assistance of my friend Jim "The Camera": After the house renovation dust settled, in 2011 for a few weeks, I could be found on a Honda step-through in Thailand: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-G...577-no/117.JPG So...the present...in 2014, I ride a Yamaha TRX 850, am saving for a GS to persuade my wife to get on the back of a bike and am just back from a honeymoon in Costa Rica with some nice 4x4 on their dirt roads. .... THE TALK! .... -- I plan to give practical guidance to help people blog from the road by using social media or setting up their own website. As head of digital for a marketing agency, I will certainly cover the technical aspects of setting up a website but want to go a bit further to help people get more from their blogging, thinking about their audience and content. A quick summary is given below: >>> 1. How to get started -- Using Google+, Facebook, Twitter + do you really need a website? 2. The digital landscape -- Domains e.g. the new .bike domain (e.g. my Overland.bike is for sale! A great domain for adventure motorcyclists or businesses that sell to them!), website hosting, email-on-the-move (e.g. email > blog post), platforms - Wordpress, Joomla etc. 3. Tips and Tricks -- One-click-installs to keep maintenance to a minimum, 4. Content -- Thinking about your audience, keeping sponsors happy >>> Looking forward to it people! https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-v...oogle_plus.jpg Jasper Ditton |

Mates we are chuffed to be able to let you know that this year at the HUBB UK there are going to be Ride Outs on the Friday and Saturday. :mchappy: Many thanks to Matt and the TRF guys for setting this up.
You’ll be on a Historic look at Leicestershire by Motorcycle. So. what’s happening? The attached sheet will give you an idea of where you’ll be riding but in brief, here’s the gen: The purpose of the ride out is to take a gentle relaxed journey around a very pretty part of Leicestershire. The aim is to reflect upon the surroundings not scoot through them in race mode. Difficulty: Beginner /intermediate. Rides happening at 10am on Friday and 10am on Saturday. Distance is approx. 125km. Any bike that is dual sport fitted with block pattern tyres should have no problem navigating unsurfaced sections. Route can be adjusted on the day to cope with inclement weather. Run Length: depending on how often you all stop to admire the view, will be between 3-4 hours. But so long as the ride leaders are notified, you can head home if you decide not to do the whole route. Each ride accommodates a group of approximately eight riders. To go on this you’ll need to be equipped with suitable safety wear for riding off road. First come, first on. Limited places – don’t miss out. Register to ride at the TRF stand in the Club area West Camping. Departure meeting point the Gate Crew marquee at the entrance. Meet at 9.30am! Paperwork to review! Ride leaves 10am sharp! For your peace of mind if you are new to green lanes etc, the route is a guide, each person is expected to ride within their ability and expertise no one will be encourage to ride outside of their comfort zone or travel at excessive speeds. Ahem, we do need to state this – The run is conducted on public highway and all riders need to respect other users and ride within the law at all times. |
I just HAVE to share this post made by Graham Field. Have a look and you'll see why.
The HUBB UK? An explanation. :thumbup1: |

If you've been to the HUBB UK in past years then you'll already know Steve McGill. We've been lucky enough to have him play live for us on several occasions. We'll he's back with us this year - as a result of loads of requests.
You'll find him playing in the Orchard by the Fire Drums and the Roadkill Cookout on Friday night at 11pm. There's a link on the HUBB UK web page to him but just as another taster... 'Everything's Gone' - Steve McGill (from Ghost Of Valentine) - YouTube |
Don't miss the 12th June cut-off
There've been loads of new registrations coming in this weekend, which is great to see.
The cut-off for booking event passes online (and getting the last of the discounted rates) is 9pm on 12th June. After that the full on-the-gate rates will apply. |
Can i camp in the back of my work van if the tent is too small? I think i have grown in size and the tent might be a tad to small.:(If im lucky i might have this old Yamaha townmaster for company,,,,,,but life seems to be moving to fast to get things sorted.:scooter:

I've heard of a Yammy Town Mate but what's a Townmaster? Regards Reggie |

Well, the rule is that vehicles on the camping field have to be expedition vehicles - be they bicycles, bikes or trucks, 4x4s, or vans. If your vehicle isn’t one of those then it’s the car park please. Everyone coming in an ordinary car or van etc has to do that. However, get to the HUBB early enough and you’ll be able to snag a spot (not in but) right next door to the ‘No Talking Camping Field’. Ask the guys on Registration for directions – there’ll also be a big map. No Talking? 11pm until 8am. The plan is that no one camping in that field will be woken up by late-getting-to-bed folks or early-risers. Hope you do make it on your Townmaster!!! Looking forward to seeing it. |
Authors and Film-Makers
The Authors' Tent in the central courtyard is where you'll find the likes of Ted Simon, Austin Vince, Graham Field, Dom Giles, Helen Lloyd, Tom Allen and Kevin Turner (hopefully with his new book "From Crystal Palace to Red Square").
We're also delighted that Ivan Cooper will be joining us for the first time with readings on the Saturday from his new book "Tibet: An Accidental Pilgrimage". "Inspired by the work of Ippolito Desideri, a pioneering, eighteenth-century Jesuit who wrote the first detailed account of Tibet, Ivan Cooper travels by clapped-out jeep and on horseback across the remote grasslands of eastern Tibet. In the company of an itinerant painter of deities who serves as guide and mediator he encounters, amongst others, Lama Sonam, a living Buddha held in reverence by the surrounding nomads, who summarily condemns him to rebirth in one of the Buddhist hells. In a chaotic monastic shanty town that has been illegally constructed around the residence of a living saint he narrowly avoids arrest. Alone and isolated in a land where few foreigners have set foot he is forced to re-evaluate both who he is and the fixed certainties of the culture in which he grew up." |
Great news that Radio Mary are able to join us round the Fire Drums on Saturday night. Have a look at the link to find out more about them. And while here, many thanks to Danny Taylor for arranging this. Nice one! :thumbup1::thumbup1:
And a taster? Have a listen to this link. http://www.radiomary.co.uk/communiti...4601529572.swf |
Will there be a parking charge for non-expedition vehicles? I doubt I'll get my bike fixed by then. Might have to borrow a car...

May not be able to ride to Donington
Hia organisers. My partner (non-member) and I have booked to attend on our bikes, however I am struggling a bit. I spent much of last year on chemo and have only just started riding again after a 2 1/2 year break. I have had quite a bit of physical damage from the chemo, and I have had to downsize carrying capacity, and my ride stamina is still very poor. My question is: if I am unable to ride on the day, can we bring our Suzuki Jimny instead. It's not expedition, although I hope she will be one day :-D and will we find somewhere near to the camping area where we can park her up securely?
Many thanks, Deana |

I was having a chat with Gabe Bolton the other day and I asked him what stood out in his mind about last years HUBB UK. He didn't think for a milli second before replying.
'For me one of the memorable events at HUBB 2013 was a very impromptu motorcycle problem solving session. I’d bought a bike on ebay a few days before HUBB 2013, and being close to Donington it made sense to collect at while we were in the area. Mary kindly went & collected the bike while I manned the stall, but upon delivery we found it refused to start. Keen to see if it would actually run at all, we started tinkering and before too long a group of a dozen or so people had gathered. Rather than an hindrance, this group was a collective of great mechanical experience and source of tools! Together we methodically worked through the electrical system of the bike, and after an hour or so, and at least a dozen fuses we isolated the problem to a switch unit on the handlebar, and then to a frayed cable that was shorting on the bars and blowing the same fuse that the fed the ignition system. It occurred to me later that this could have been the ultimate technical demonstration, made all the more interesting as we started with absolutely no idea what the problem was, or if we’d be able to solve it. The bike ran beautifully and has done since, with the insulation tape still wrapped around that wire and keeping the ignition fuse safe. What’s more, on the Sunday I went on to win the slow bike race on this lovely little NX250.' :thumbup1: |

Something on the Horizon
So less than 3 weeks to go and I guess Sam, Iain and a host of others are busy behind the scenes - such a superb event does not happen by itself and I am sure they will be open to any offers of support and assistance in the run up.
As a non commercial presenter I have been putting together some photos which I hope the techies will be able to handle on my behalf ....... Meanwhile if you can't wait almost 3 more weeks have a sneak preview here: Travellers Tales: HUBB UK 2014 19th-22nd June |
Loved those shots on your 'sneak preview'! Thanks very much for sharing. :thumbup1: Looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.

Suzuki have just given us some more info on the bikes they will have at the HUBB UK for you guys to test ride :mchappy:
They will have: 3 x V-Strom 1000 2 x V-Strom 650 and 1 x GSX1250FA You'll need both parts of your bike license, and you'll need to be over 25. As with most test rides they don't allow pillions and you'll need to have a £250 excess. Have a natter with them more when you arrive. They are a friendly bunch. |
Hi Guys

Just had word from the venue that 3 hotel rooms have just become available (due to some folk working next door at the race circuit not needing them).
If you'd like to snag a little luxury, get in touch with Donington Park Farmhouse Hotel directly on 01332 862409 quoting "HUBB UK" as your reference. |
The Dover to Donington Ride with Grant and Susan Johnson
If you are in the SE of England, don’t miss out on the chance to do this!
Grant and Susan Johnson will be arriving into Dover from France on Wednesday the 18th of June. This is your chance to ride with them to Donington. The Dover to Donington ride is being organised by the July, Simon, Kate and Arun from Moto Adventure Nights and Touratech De. You’ll be joining a bunch of riders over from the mainland – various countries! Meet at the docks in Dover at 10.30 on the 18th with departure being at 12. Please note. You will need to sign a liability disclaimer :mchappy: before you can join the ride so please allow plenty of time to get there and sign that before departure. The bonus? You’ll be on site on Wednesday night so you’ll get the pick of the camping spots! :thumbup1: If you’ve not already booked your HUBB UK event pass, don’t forget to do that before June 12th so you snag the last of the discounted passes. Otherwise you can just ride in and pay the on-the-gate pass fee. There’s more info on the ride on the Dover to Donington Facebook page |
First Aid Crew
Hi Everyone,
We need some help please. We are short of 4 people to be on the First Aid Crew. Is anyone coming who is a qualified First Aider or Doc or Nurse please? The duties are very straight forward. You'll be rota'd on an 'On Call' basis. You'll have a walkie talkie for emergencies - you'll carry this when you are on call. You can basically go anywhere while you are on call. You'll need to be able to supply a copy/scan of your certificate. Could I ask anyone who can help to PM me with their email address please. I can answer any questions then. Thanks very much. |
Any sessions on Iran/Visa/Guides planned ?
As subject, this would seem to be warming up to a hot topic (well for me and a few others at least).
|
Quote:
Graham Field will touch on it a bit in his presentation and Ed March may have stuff to say about Iran in one of his too. That's about it though from memory. |
Hi Caps,
Just finished HU Germany on the weekend, and recovering now - Grant still suffering from the cold I shared with him... Answers are YES you can join and become a Gold Member at the event, YES there will be a few 2015 calendars available, and YES we will also have some extra HUBB t-shirts, I think black synth mostly. However, if you're not getting there until the 21st, stuff might be sold out already! Let me know what size you want and I'll have one set aside for you, also a calendar. See you there! Susan Quote:

Is the schedule available yet?
Only as a presenter it would be nice to know what time my talk is Looking forward to seeing everyone this year, Lilian |
Hi Lilian, I'm going to beat Iain to replying to you :) He's just putting the finishing touches to them now. Over 150 sessions of presentations to schedule in so its a right old juggle. Having seen the draft from yesterday I know its a cracker! There's some amazing stuff happening again this year - thank you for presenting again!
But the reason I popped up this morning was actually to pass on the news about the Volunteer Rota. Quite a few of the presenters have also volunteered to help out with other things - THANKS very much :thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1: but that's meant I've needed to hang on with the rotas until we are at this stage with the Schedule. I aim to have them out to everyone on Saturday latest. I hope that's not a chore for anyone. 'Coming soon' as they say :biggrin3: |
Registration fee credit can be carried forward to another event or 2015.
Hi Nino,
Sorry to hear you won't be joining us. I'm sure you're gutted, but a 4-month contract is hard to turn down! Officially you're not supposed to sell or transfer passes for the event. However, for any cancellation, even if it's less than a month before the event, we always offer to credit your registration fee towards any HU meeting this year or next. If your schedule may not allow you to get to one this year in Europe, you could carry it over to HUBB UK 2015. Hope to see you at an HU event sometime this year or next! Cheers, Susan P.S. I have also written you, so check your e-mail and PMs. Quote:

Update on the Presentation schedule
The first draft of the presentation schedule has just been sent round to all presenters for review by Saturday.
Once I've made any amendments based on their feedback I'll be publishing a "final" version (as final as it ever gets anyway) here and on the event page. Looking forward to unveiling what we have in store for you :) |
Quote:
Thanks for that, yes I can not make it till the sat and sun, keeping me a t shirt and calendar would be great. If they are a big size then a medium will suffice. See you there Caps |
More great news!
As you’ll know, CCM are joining us for the HUBB UK. The news is that they will have bikes on hand for you to test ride too. Fantastic! They will take small groups out for 20min or so rides. :thumbup1: You’ll need you full license – both parts and of course full riding kit. Talk to them on their stand when you arrive to get booked in! As CCM are in the Adventure Travel Zone with no vehicle movement, can I ask everyone who take’s ‘em up on this to wheel their test bikes to the edge of the zone please. Only 50m and light bikes so no worries methinks. The event gets better and better  |

More good news? Oh yes, Simon Gandolfi looks as if he's going to be presenting with us this year. And hopefully he's going to be bringing some of his books along.
Check out the Authors and Film makers marquee in the courtyard - some excellent writers and film makers are going to be with us - just look at the Presentation schedule to see who. And I'm going to be really bad and put a bit of self promo in here too :innocent: Birgit will have copies of all of my books in the HU Store. You'll find that in the courtyard, so do nab a copy or two if you've a mind. She's also going to have the full range of HU DVDs, HU T-shirts and a small selection of spare HUBB UK shirts if you've not already ordered. First come... The HU Store is also where you'll find the tables with the fantastic selection of raffle prizes. Take a good look when you get a minute. The charity - ShelterBox! Fantastic! bier |
Volunteer Rotas
Hi everyone :)
If you Volunteered to help make it all happen at the HUBB UK, then please check your in boxes. This morning I've sent out the volunteering rotas for everyone except the Skills Course and the Slow Bike Race. I'm planning to get those out to everyone tomorrow. Just waiting for some info to come to me. Iain is sending out the Presentation Crew Rotas to those of you going to be on that Crew. If you volunteered and I've not been in touch - that could be an IT glitch or me being an idiot! :innocent: Please PM me. A huge thank you to everyone who is giving up a few hours of time over the 4 days! It's you guys that make it all possible. bier Cheers! Apologies for being slow getting them out this year. If you haven't volunteered yet and would like to - fantastic. Yes please. Could you use this link please. Love to hear from you. This is the form to use when you have already registered but now think - 'Yep, I'll help.' http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/eve.../volunteer.php All the Crews are sorted now except The Digi Tech Crew for the Presentations and the Registration Crew. |

The presentation schedule is now online for your event-planning delight and delectation. Click here to download the PDF
As always happens every year, there'll no doubt be the odd tweak to it here and there in the final days before the event, so make sure you check the printed versions displayed around the venue when you arrive. |
Hi Sam And Iain looking forward to the HUBB :D will it be OK if we change are mode of transport this year we may bring the Land Rover up instead of the bikes bier

Some sad news
Received emails from Chris and Maya this morning (thanks both) letting me know the sad news that Michael Anderson passed away over the weekend (read more here).
Michael was due to give a couple of presentations at HUBB UK and is shown on the version of the schedule currently online. I'll be updating it asap and leaving the two sessions on Friday and Sunday empty out of respect to Michael. |

Time for a sneaky look at the layout.
The attached map shows how everything is going to be laid out this year. These will be up around the site from the Registration Marquee onwards. Those of you who came last year, well, you'll see a fair few changes. Looking good methinks. :thumbup1: Just one quick thought for everyone with motorcycles. Can you leave the hard standing pitches free for Expedition vehicles please. Ta muchly :thumbup1: |
Update on what we're doing! We're in Kappel, a tiny village in southern Germany catching up with website stuff and email.
We're also preparing for the Touratech Germany Travel Event - we're doing three talks, then on Tuesday riding to Calais, and on Wednesday Dover to Donington - and you're welcome to join us on either or both legs! There will be riders from the continent, plus a couple of Aussies who popped up, and a large contingent, at last check around 20, joining us in Dover for the ride to Donington. We're really looking forward to it, so hope you can join us! All the details are here and here, and in German. The Moto Adventure Nights crew have done a great job sorting it all out to make it a great ride. And of course we're especially looking forward to the HUBB UK, our original and premiere HU travel event! Hope to see you all there! |
Have a safe journey and see you all at Donington.
Margaret |

Y'know we are doing the raffle in aid of ShelterBox and that with the prizes that have been collected and those being donated by each of the exhibitors we'll have over 50 prizes?
Well, here's something new. :D This year we are going to do an auction. Two amazing prizes have been donated and well, this is one of them. A £500 tent from Adventure Bike Shop! News on the next auction shortly! It's very special! The auctions are going to be happening in the Marquee Cinema, just before the raffle prizes are drawn. |
Friday Saturday
Hi Sam,
I'd like to visit HUBB UK this month but due to other commitments would only be free on Friday and Saturday. Is there a way of me staying over just Friday night without buying a four day pass?? |
Hi wayfarer, good to hear from you and thanks for asking about a Friday - Saturday Pass. I'm really sorry - I'm afraid there isn't such a thing. There's the full 4-day pass, a 2-day Thursday-Friday pass or a 2-day Saturday-Sunday pass.
If you have a look at the Schedule that was published recently you'll see what an amazing number of presentations, films, competitions, demonstrations, ride outs, test rides, Skills course, Slow Bike Race and all are going on on Friday and Saturday so your £65 would be well spent methinks. Real ale bar too bier I hope you can still make it. If you can, don't miss out on booking before 9pm on the 12th. That's when the advance booking discounts cease to be. |
Not long left
Quick reminder folks.... there's only today and tomorrow left to register in advance at the last of the discounted rates if you haven't already. We'll be closing online registration at around 9pm tomorrow night (Thursday 12th).

Do you have good PC skills?
A member of the volunteer Presentation Crew has had to drop out at the last minute for family reasons, so I'm looking for someone - or ideally a couple of people - to take his place.
The Presentation Crew volunteers make sure all the presentations run smoothly and on time, taking care of the laptops and gadgets so the presenters can just concentrate on presenting. It's a vital role and guarantees a front-row seat :) If you've already registered to attend, but haven't volunteered for any crews, and if you have decent PC skills and fancy lending a hand, I'd really appreciate your help. Here's the link to volunteer.... Thanks |

I just came across this shot from the 2013 Slow Bike Race. If you didn't have a go last year then don't miss it this year. :thumbup1:
Brilliant fun, to take part in and to watch! And, we have just lined up some cracking prizes for the winners. Have a look at the Schedule to see when the Races are on. Below 550cc and the other race is above 550. Can you take part in both if your bike IS 550cc? Now there's a question :innocent: Race? Well of course, the last person across the line, without having strayed from their lane or putting their foot down, wins! |
Competitions? Again for 2014 we are going to have Competitions for Motorcycles, Expedition Vehicles and for Bicycles. 3 categories in each but we aren't spilling the beans on what those are, just yet.
They will give you the chance to draw attention to your vehicles, the mods made and so on. It's a way of sharing the info. :thumbup1: Kevin Bond is organising for the Expedition vehicles. Paul Myers the Motorcycles and Helen Lloyd the Bicycles If they don't find you, please find them :) They will tell you where, if you are a two-wheeler, to bring your steeds for display and judging. Expedition Vehicles will be judged where you have them parked up. Each of the 9 winners will have a prize - some of them so good that I'd like to keep 'em. The prizes for the Expedition Vehicles are kindly provided by Front Runner and for the Motorcycle and Bicycles, they have been donated by Traveldri-Plus in conjunction with Wheels to Work. Got to be in to win bier |
Hi folks don't forget to join us round the bonfire for :funmeteryes: there's great music the cook out and win a free night for 2 at Haggs Bank Bunkhouse - Nenthead, Alston, Cumbria if you dare if you sign up for our completion .And of course for a oddbeer
Thanks Danny and Fil |
Not long now, will be leaving Thursday morning with me boy from Clevedon (Bristol) green landcruiser and expedition trailer beep wave if you pass me :thumbup1:

I started to spread the word a few pages back but it's time to bring Kevin Turner to the top again. We are delighted that Kevin has chosen the HUBB UK to launch his new book. You'll find him the Authors and Film makers marquee in the courtyard! You are going to find some cracking travel books and films there!!! :thumbup1: It's a great chance to have a natter with the guys too.
|
Heads up for anyone who is joining the 'Dover to Donington' ride with Grant and Susan and the guys from Moto Adventure Nights and Touratech.
This is the sat nav info link for the ride. Might be useful. To confirm, join the guys at Dover at 10.30am on Wednesday 18th. Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night. Have a great ride :thumbup1: |
Ready To Roll
The setup of the event begins tomorrow afternoon and by 9am on Thursday everything will be up and running and ready to roll.
Sam and I are really looking forward to seeing you all there. A big thank you in advance to all the crew leaders and volunteers who're giving their time and energy to help make it all happen for everyone else's enjoyment. The presentation schedule has had a couple of minor revisions since the one that's currently available to download, but you'll find the bang up-to-date version posted in various places around the Barn complex when you arrive. And very importantly.... last year we drank the place completely dry by the end of the Saturday night. This year the venue's cellars are ready for us and include a selection of 12 different tipples for the Real Ale Bar. Roll on Thursday :) |
Just finished sorting out the trailer and almost ready to leave home tomorrow morning.Really looking forward to the weekend.
