ANY 'EXTRAS'...how to make it 'go' a bit faster?..

i got all excited when I saw the link to the german site, installed a translator on windows 10 and excitedly opened the site.

hmm...how to make it go better(rough translation)... tried to 'do' the mod only to realise that its only for the ttr and not ttre..

So anyone got any hints and tips?....

Yes its almost the same bike, the 3tb had about 10kg more weight and 45hp. So take it for what it is, great citybike and toy for a little offroad riding. You need to buy a turbo for this if you want real speed, yes you can gain some hp doing this and that but it wont make the big difference. Its all here in the threads, carb, exhaust, airfilter, high comp piston.

I love the bike tbh,she has a carb jet kit, aftermarket air filter and 'sports' exhaust but still runs outta puff at around 50mph.

Has 7000 miles on the clock so aint that worn out.

loud/mechanical engine too. allways thought the tappets were 'out' so I tried to do them today...mistake. tried twice...sounds like a machinr gun now!!!

try again,when its cold....

Set the valves at correct TDC ;-)

Runs out of puff at 50mph? 3rd gear should hit well over 60mph before redlining... So something is definitely off.

Still not 100% certain on which bike we speak of, xt660r should be the never 5 valve fuel injected ones. Theres dedicated forums for them, and peaople acchieve around 50hp meassured at the real wheel after mods. But you talk about jetkits, carbs ect...?

/me be like

Sorry all my threads are about a tt600re...

id like a xt 660r ..

followed the translated german 'how to' and the downloaded official manual..still sounds shite.

correct tdc?..

Set the valves at correct TDC....

Top dead center.

Jens Eskildsen 12 Aug 2016 13:31

Theres 2 TDC, you need to use the one after the intake valves open and close, when you turn the engine over counter clockwise.

nikroc 12 Aug 2016 17:23

The genuine manual says there two sets of markings. First set is two separate lines that are for the ignition timing and the second, single line that indicates TDC.

I have just set them using a new set of feeler gauges, following exactly the same process as I did the first two times using different sets of feeler gauges(which are now in the bin)

Much quieter...

Only problem now is it wont tickover!!!:innocent:

xtrock 12 Aug 2016 18:14

You are not talking about same thing, the mark is only one way correct. But if you turn engine 360 degree around the mark is still there, but valves are not open. So big question is, did you set them at the correct position first time? If they where stuck before you started you started adjusting on the wrong TDC, if you got the feeler gauge down there and they was about correct you did it on the correct turn.

Dude,I followed the genuine manual and the 'how to' all three times. Anyhow its done now.
Appreciate the input

hei nick, are you the guy from crete?

in any case, thanks for the huge american scene around the raptor quads, there are tons of go fast parts (and in english sites :) ) , both for the 5 valve and the newer 4 valve motors. your xt660r is a four valve right?

a bigger piston with say 10.5-11:1 compression should add quite a bit of drive

would stay away from the 12:1 for street use.

nikroc 13 Aug 2016 14:53

I'm from Derby....and I ridea ttr 600 e ..for now.

Just been out on a 20 mile 'test' ride. Nearly came home after 1.

Bogs down around 40 and wont go above 60.

Seriously thinking about getting a xt660r now
