If you don't agree then watch me clock up a thousand by simply posting "Dito" or something else equally as useless. This was the point of my post, if we all just posted information relevant to the original post then it would save us wading through the drivel. What's all this expect a certain quality? I just wanted an eye witness rather than a story teller. I also did n't realise there was a pecking order on here. But now I know.
Lastly the reason I have only 16 post (well done for counting) is because I had nothing useful to add, mainly because I am out there doing it rather than riding a key board.

uhhhm, you only had 16 posts, therefore it was easy to read through them as opposed to someone who had hundreds. That's why I read them. Nothing to do with a pecking order. The number of posts one has or the length of time one has been here is of no importance to me. BTW, there's no need to count someone's posts, the number is clearly displayed in our profiles :cool4:

Over and out, becoming too busy getting ready to ride Indonesia next week.

Couple of bits for OP's consideration:

First, on a forum like this one your post no longer belongs to you once it appears--it belongs to, and benefits, the whole community. What you find boring or useless, others may find interesting or useful. You may find this irritating, but that's the nature of it.

Second, appreciation for the intent of those responding will get you far--here and elsewhere in the world. Again, you may not like this approach (or care to participate), but you're paying the price in your own irritation and in pointless back-and-forth with other posters. Here, as in your other thread, you're lambasting people who are, at least initially, just trying to help out.

Last, if you find yourself attracting attacks from people you don't know, it's worth considering how you might be contributing to the dynamic. This doesn't mean you can't feel offended. It just means that in very practical terms there are ways of communicating which are well-received, and ways which resoundingly are not. These are determined not by your personal preferences, but rather by group norms. Here, for example, calling responses "drivel" may feel satisfying, but probably won't serve you well. Your response to Scrabblebiker above is an excellent case in point, should you choose to learn from it.

You've always got choices here--post or not post, conform to group norms or not, lurk or participate. Probably, if you find responses to your queries "drivel," you're out of step with community culture. It's up to you to decide whether that serves your purposes.

The above represents my personal opinions, as a member rather than moderator. As a moderator, I'll add that if you start berating other members by insult or threat--or if they start doing that to you-- moderators will step in with edits, deletions, infraction penalties and/or bans. That's another bit of established community culture.

Hope that's helpful. If not, you're entirely welcome to disregard.

Mark

hahaha i feel the same way too. i thought i was the only 1,

yokesman 2 May 2017 23:44

I have found this to be common in many forums, especially looking for similiar info n only find rabbit trails.

brclarke 4 May 2017 16:01

Guess it depends on what you mean by 'drivel' - I'd have to see the posts you're talking about.

Certainly I'm guilty of making posts that are off-topic and just making jokes or conversation, but other times I do manage to post something helpful.

Sometimes people are chatty and want to butt in with remarks that are off-topic. About all you can do is make a follow-up post that gets things back onto the track.

It always surprises me how some people just demand things in life, even on forums...

Basic muffin recipe.

Ingredients:

2 medium eggs
125ml vegetable oil
250ml semi-skimmed milk
200g golden caster sugar
400g self-raising flour (or same
quantity plain flour and 3 tsp
baking powder)
1 tsp salt
100g chocolate chips (see tip) or
dried fruit such as sultanas or
dried cherries (optional)

Method:

Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Line 2 muffin trays with
paper muffin cases. In a large bowl beat the eggs lightly with a
handheld electric mixer for 1 min. Add the oil and milk and beat
until just combined then add the sugar and whisk until you have a
smooth batter. Sift in the flour and salt (and baking powder if using)
then mix until just smooth. Be careful not to over-mix the batter as
this will make the muffins tough. Stir in the chocolate chips or dried
fruit if using.

Fill muffin cases two-thirds full and bake for 20-25 mins, until
risen, firm to the touch and a skewer inserted in the middle comes
out clean. If the trays will not fit on 1 shelf, swap the shelves around
after 15 mins of cooking. Leave the muffins in the tin to cool for a
few mins and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy. :thumbup1:

Mezo.

LOL.... mmm, muffins....

I've been on HUBB for almost -gasp- 18 years, and I don't recall it ever being much different. Heck, if anything there's more useful info here now than in past years simply due to the increase in the sheer number of posting - you just have to learn to use the search tool to shift through the chaff.

It seems insane to me that they would bother. But it also means that I and others I guess, spend time checking out the new post only to find its rubbish.

It's just me is n't I'll get me coat.

Mere drivel leaves me somewhat perplexed .
But , and I say this in all sincerity , complete twaddle is infuriating .

To further putting salt in the wounds of the original OP.....

BONES your post has cracked me up, a grown man crying, laughing and choking out loud "IN PUBLIC" has done me a world of good and may have put a chuckle on the faces of people walking by.

So thanks from me and the passing crowd

PS. i'm partial to a good muffin too.
