I'd be happy with reruns of the old ones as well. I'm even beginning to miss Henry Cole now that Greatest Bike Rides seems to be shed and buried.:rofl:

Must be getting short of money :innocent:

Well, charlie anyways, I think Ewans doing all right.

The first one, long way round, was good and I really enjoyed it, long way down was a bit of a whinge fest and I didn't like it much.

TBH I think there's a lot of inverted snobbery about, with people just criticising them for the sake of it or sour grapes. Hey, if you can do a bit of travelling and make a few bob from it, and get someone else to provide all your gear, well why the hell not?!

Sounds like one of those bitter urban myths to me, same as you hear about Bear grills. I didn't see, and haven't seen, any evidence that was the case. yes some bits they might decide to say a particular thing, and yes they have fixers and a support crew, anyone that thinks you can make a series without that is deranged, but I have no doubt in my mind that any suggestion of it being faked or setup is just a bit deranged.
even if you read it in some obscure press article, it doesn't make it so, most of the shit in newspapers is made up bollocks, especially the sniping at successful people or celebrities, it's just the actions of sad washed up people who didn't do quite as well in life as they think they should have so ended up writing for the daily fail (or worse!!) and try and big themselves up at others expense.

Agreed. But there's a reason why beemers are one of the most popular travelers and it has nothing to do with Obi-wan [emoji1].

A couple of reasons probably.
In no particular order ... they are decent bikes ... badge snobs have to have the so called 'premium' brand.

A few years back 'Long Way Up' was penciled in as Tierra del Fuego to Alaska.

I welcome another trip; by humanising those behind the Darth Vader helmets it changed forever the general public's perception that bikers were thugs. Similar comment for Hairy Bikers.

Yes, it would be nice if the filming was a bit more honest but that's TV for you. Don't really care which marque of bike they ride.

Totally agree! Many moons ago when I did my second trip around the world(not on a bike) I was in Bali. I was reading entries in a guest book made by so called travelers slating people who went to Kuta because it was “so touristy”. They thought that they were somehow elitist because they chose a different way of travelling. Can we all say that we wouldn’t stay in 5 star hotels, consoling ourselves with the fact that it’s all about the riding not where we sleep. If you want to wild camp and rough it I take my hat off to you. I’ve washed clothes in a river with a crowd watching which I loved at the time. I wouldn’t knock someone for using a laundry service though as it’s their choice. Don’t knock someone for doing it the easy way applaud them for doing it at all. Love them or hate them they have inspired others to travel by motorbike doing it in their own ways.

I learned that everyone has something they can tell you that will help you, you just have to find out what it is.

All of the above is just my humble opinion

That'll be all those middle class 'travellers' taking a year off to see the world with, err, other middle class backpackers

totally agree with your sentiments, each to their own, just get out there and do it and don't damage anything or anyone on the way. Leave no trace except good memories.

Well, I'm excited. I know they pushed the drama a little on the last one, but it'll be shot beautifully and Latin America is very close to my heart.

I laugh when I see riders standing on the pegs on a piste that's as smooth as a billiard table.

Is it because I'm getting old and lazy and can't be bothered to stand?

tremens 19 Dec 2018 11:47

well, looks better on photos doesn't it?
But they may have been just stretching their legs as well after long haul or looking far ahead to heave better view :)

I'm pretty sure there were many occasions during both trips that they longed for the simplicity and ease of a drz just look at how much more fun Claudio had when he got his little red rocket! :scooter:

A little known fact about all this is that two bikes were actually dropped off at the warehouse, full support offered but then later the bikes were taken back after money was demanded but not given, nothing to do with bikes breaking down i'm afraid, morality and dignity against corporate success, who was right and who was wrong..? At the end of the day I would welcome any bike related TV coverage and I haven't even got a telly :rolleyes2:

Photos can be deceptive on the smoothness or otherwise of a surface. Many times out green laning I've been happily sitting daydreaming when a big ripple or pothole has jarred me awake via my poor old back. You also have more control on loose surfaces if you're standing.

At the end of the day what were we saying? Do what floats your boat and let others do what suits them ;)
