Being a Boring British Wanker (at least twice a day...good for the constitution, dear boy), and having spent the summer trolling around Europe i've developed a healthy new-found respect for this beautiful island and (whisper it) the people here - more exploration required. Shocking, eh!
Oh, and as long as this Nanny-state has great Hooters and a penchant for leather then all the better!

Just a side note the UK aint all that bad I certainly dont wish that your parents stay cold. My farther in law just died and I think he was well looked after in his final year. Now if my taxes paid a small part in that it can only be a good thing.:scooter:

I did indeed come to their assistance,but they are convinced that after a lifetime of paying taxes and when the state actually said that they would do the work,they,d rather hold on and not waste money.The trouble being is that the state hires the skilled workmen to do the job,then send their guy round to check the work done,he says the jobs so poorly done that it,s unsafe and 9 months later they still ain,t been back to fix it.
So there you go,the worst of both worlds.Yours and the Brits

Despisement of a nation and it's peoples is ugly, I thought that was the whole reason for this website; to be open minded, travel and understand the world we live in, not to judge others and condemn governments, we can leave that to the politicians and warmongers of this world.

I'm guessing if your parents expect the state to fix their heating and have indeed experienced this that they must be in some form of social housing (after all no home owning individual would expect the govt to send a bloke round) In which case I think maybe they've not done badly out of the taxes they've been paying, after all ir's given them heavily subsidised housing.

Mind you, what do I know I moved to France 10 years ago, but that was mainly because I fancied someone over here.

Poor Albert. Travelled all that way to get away from 'boring English wankers' and ends up propping up a foreign bar, complaining about home and putting the world to rights. Rumour has it he tried Spain, but couldn't get a word in.
