So I'm new as a member but have been lurking here and there. I was reading thru the last year's replies and get the impression I cannot take ferry from Spain to Morocco. I went to direct ferries and searched Tarifa to Morocco and can get a ticket for tomorrow.
Did I miss something? I am from USA, having bike shipped to Germany and will fly over mid May. I then plan to ride to Morocco for a month or two. Is all good if ferry company is selling tickets? |
Ignore the ferry companies at the moment. Until there is an official announcement from the Moroccan Government there are no ferries available for passengers on any route.
There has been some speculation that some ferries might resume before Ramadan next month but nothing official yet. |
Welcome to Morocco forum.
You may well be able to book a ferry to Ceuta or Melilla which are Spanish enclaves in Morocco. So Spain to Spain. But the borders from those enclaves to actual Morocco have been closed for 2 years and I get the feeling ferries from France or Italy will resume before Straits ferries to Morocco open up again. |
Thanks for the info!!

I was supposed to be there at the moment. No luck, I’m afraid.
Now booked Barcelona->Tangier Med on 1st May for two weeks of general tomfoolery, should anyone also be around. Rachel |

Could be a significant change of policy as Alg has reacted badly to it

Its progress definitely but some context to the Spanish statement.
1 - Morocco has made similar statement regarding Ceuta and Mellilia, although this hasn't been widely reported 2 - Investigation into the Brahim Ghali affair that affected relations badly last year has revealed that Pedro Sanchez authorised Ghali's entry into Spain. Along with the statement re the WS, Morocco's Ambassador has finally returned to post in Spain after almost a year of absence Other news, the next Repatriation ferry is scheduled for the 26th March |

“Imminent” resumption of maritime links between Morocco and Spain...
Sorry it's in French or Spanish. https://ladepeche24.com/europasur-re...c-et-lespagne/ https://www.europasur.es/campo-de-gi...667835046.html |
I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet, resumption of the ferry for passengers needs authorisation from the Moroccan Government and they have made no announcement about any ferries yet.
The SoE is up for review before the end of the month so they will either meet tomorrow or in a week to review this, and there may be news regarding ferries included, although I expect the French and Italian routes will restart first. The 2nd article refers to the Spanish Foreign Minister visiting Morocco on the 1st April, this doesn't mean ferries will restart then, even though the article states that he has said they will. Spain has previously stated that the Ceuta border will not open before May due to the construction works currently underway. Everything's moving in the right direction at the moment so hopefully we will see ferry travel restart soon. It makes no sense that people have been allowed to fly in for 2 months but not travel by ferry |
Indeed.
Now that I have the pleasure of working with governments, I’m beginning to realise “imminent“ has a quite different meaning to the one I always thought it did [emoji854] Rachel |

I'd like to take a ferry on the 26 or 27 of April in Barcelona Thank you |
I booked with GNV.
They seem a little unresponsive to requests to cancel but happy to change the booking. That was easy on the phone and, to be honest, would have cost me a lot more to travel on the dates I’m now booked for. Shout if you want to tag along. No firm plans, other than exploring. Rachel |
