Falcon Tyres
Hi,
I have just bought a 2008 Falcon in Salvador, Brazil. The Falcon model ceased production in 2008 by the way. I just had the tyres replaced and as I recall there was an inner tube. I believe that is normal for spoked wheels anyway. Good luck with your trip! |

Honda Yes, the tires are tubed. You can have spoked wheels that take tubless tires, but the tend to only come on the largest of adv touring bikes. |

Bought in honda dealer in the boulevard "Las Condes" in Santiago.
They seem to have at least 2 or 3 of them (2nd hand) at any time in that shop. I liked mine a lot. I couldn;t afford anything bigger. I regreat not having set-up a screen for it as the high wind of the Attacama desert were a pain in the a... I ceased the engine in Paraguay (hadn't checked the oil level and had been losing oil due to hot/dry weather). Luckely we were only 120 kms from Brasilian border and original parts arrived on next day delivery. 7 days and £600 later I had a new engine which never worked as well as the original. I would recomend that bike for sure. For luggages I had simple Oxford Throw over panniers and a big dry bag laid accross back seat and panniers. The small tank was a bit of a pain (I think only about 15 litres) and I had to get Jerrycan to be on the safe side. The bike would travel happily at 130 km/h for long period of time. will try and upload a few pics. |

After years with Vstrom... I sold that off for a 2001 NX4...
Just a weeks with this bike... The only complaint I have for this bike is the wind buffeting issue... In real need of a Windscreen.. I have asked around... most probably will get a screen for it.. Anyway this bike is rare and cant google much bout it... mostly in Brazil and i cant understand it :( The spec of the bike is similar to XR 4 except this have a "Magic Button" :thumbup1: but I will like to know is it possible to mount a XR4 Exhaust on this bike without modification? Honda NX4i Falcon 2013
Honda relaunched the old Falcon in Brazil. After stopping selling it in Brazil in 2009, they are now going to sell it again. The only real changes appears to be the plastics around the fuel tank and a different muffler.
The Pros. Now the bike have fuel injection and meets the Euro 3 emissions standards. The cons. Hello fellow NX4 riders.
I've just joined HU because I have heaps of trouble finding info on my bike and also I read a few posts in the past that I may have been able to help with if people ask the same questions again. Also I'm looking for a service manual at the moment if anyone has a link. My Misses and I both have 2010 NX4s that we has shipped over from Brazil to Madagascar were we are working at the moment. It took a few months to get them but we have now just completed 2 years with the bikes and would not trade them for anything else in a place like this. They are the perfect 3rd World tourer in everyway. At home we both have road bikes. Our NX4 touring gear includes Enduristan tank and saddle bags, Sena SMH10 Bluetooth coms and home made rear racks. They also have Leo Vince slip on mufflers which totally transformed the bikes. The standard exhaust left me always looking for torque the little 400 djdoesn't have. There is some other minor changes done as well and the bikes very much remain a work in progress. Another thing I haven't been able get yet is after market air filters. The plan is to eventually do an across Asia tour when work runs out here in Mada. Through and around India, through SE asia and down to Australia where we come from (last bit by boat of course). Anyway. I'm here to share hopefully some usefull info back and forwards with you guys. thommo |
Hi isfthomson... would love to see more pics of your bike with your Leo Vince Slip on... From which bike model did you convert the exhaust from? Better mileage and top speed?

The NX4 motor comes from the old Honda XR400 so as far as I'm aware most parts should work. Except maybe air filters because the air box may be different. I'm not sure as I don't have a XR400 handy to check out. So my bike has an exhaust made for a XR400 but I couldn't find another one for the Wife's bike so we put on one made for a Suzuki DR400 which was almost identical. Hard to tell and difference between the two bikes but they are so much better than the original exhausts. I just cut the pipe off and slipped the new units on. You need to weld a holder for the spring. Most noticable diffennce is the torque. I was alway having trouble at low speeds picking along bad roads. 3rd gear too high and 2nd gear too low. Now i just stay in 3rd. I'm not sure about Fuel economy but loseing the old exhaust drops the bike overall weight significantly so that has to help. I didn't actually weigh the old exhausts before I threw them away but they felt like 10 kgs and the new ones like 2 kgs. That is a lot on a bike that only weighs 150kgs to start with. Top speed again I'm not sure about but at 5500 rpm I'm doing 110kph. Compare that against your bike's speed Vs rpm. I asume we have the same sprockets. In general I believe the bike performs better but I can't measure it. Another major benifit if you live in a place like Madagascar is being heard. There is not much road sense with a lot of the locals here and they just wander all over the roads and the roads have more walkers and push carts on them than motorised vehicle. The original was way too quiet and I was forever beeping at people. Now they turn there heads an look at me to see what's coming at them. So If you asked if they were worth it I'd say definately. BTW- The website you suggest didn't have a link to it. please post it again. Here are some old pics. Yeah this bike is base on the XR400... just need some welding of the holder to fit an XR4 exhaust... but didn't knew tat it can fit a DR400 exhaust well too... In my country Singapore, you can spot XR 400 and DR400Z almost anywere... but not the Falcon... which is very very very Rare ;)... I am planning to have my Exhaust change very soon... so thank a lot for this information... i can have wide choice since now i knew it can fit a DR exhaust I cant even find part source for Falcon here... all are taken from XR400 catalog... Does anyone know if the Falcon nx4 will accept the xr400 to 440cc rebuild kits that are commonly available in the states??
My Falcon could use a rebuild & I'd love to have the extra power. These kits are fairly cheap here in the states and come with everything you need. Also, could I bring these parts into Chile w/o much trouble from customs? thx |
I never seen a 440cc rebuild kit here.... but over the internet i know someone who did it... so it can be done :)...
