28/8/10 This trip is now almost over, eight months, 30,000 kilometres, 27 countries. Fine weather fronted us as we left Dover port and at the first rest area it was out with the tent, drying it. The speedometer cable also snapped a few kilometres off the ferry so whilst the tent was drying we had lunch and replaced it with the spare one we carry. The next rest area it was an oil change. Better to leave new oil in the motorcycle for the eight months we will be away than old oil. Then late afternoon we arrived in Coventry. The Premiere Classe Hotel will be our home for the next four nights. Actually a misnamed hotel chain as it is quite a budget chain at 32 pounds a night, but with parking and free wi/fi.

29-30/8/10 It seems like we have done nothing but prepare for going home the last few days. Washed clothes to remain with the motorcycle, repacked bags and panniers (what is staying what is going), washed motorcycle, Skype phoned the mothers, looked on the internet for a van to purchase when we get back to Australia, wrote a bulk email of this trip, etc, etc.

31/8/10 Found out Margaret, an Australian friend who is riding around Europe this summer, is currently in the area and she visited with a few of her Iron Butt riding friends for lunch at the local pub, otherwise another quiet day.

1/9/10 A bit of a sad day saying goodbye to the motorcycle for eight months. After collecting a package we had stored with friends, Merv and Ruth, we rode the short distance to the Coventry Transport Museum where the motorcycle will be on display for the next eight months. A last minute bit of a repack of our gear followed by a lift to the airport by the museum and we left the UK late evening.

You can now move onto planning the seventeenth trip
