XT600E turn signals problem.. all 4 are flashing...
 
Hey guys!

Well, as the title mentions, I got a problem in my bike...

A few minutes ago I went to fix my blinkers because when I hit the turn signal switch, left or right, all the blinkers were always on but not flashing!

A friend of mine from mainland Portugal bought the same flasher relay as I did... actually, we bought it together...

I asked him if any of the flasher relays we bought were malfunctioning and he said no.

I than told him what was happening when I pressed the turn signal switch..
He said that the flasher relay's In and Out terminals are reverse!
And I just went and reversed the cables.

Now they blink!
problem is, they blink all 4 at the same time.

That would be fine if I was trying to make them work as Hazzards which I don't lol..


Any suggestions of what I might've done wrong? doh




btw, just out of curiosity, where the frack has Wolfzero gone? haven't seen him post anything lately on here...

Found the problem!

The XT600E stock computer/display/manometer has several small bulbs.

One of the bulbs is the Turn signals warning light.

On the XT that warning light has TWO POSITIVES connect to it!
And , with my knowledge, the only way that bulb can work is if internally, on the bulb socket there is a ground!

On the Trailtech Vapor indicator dashboard, with the same scheme it doesn't work and makes the 4 turn signals blink at the same time!


So my question now is:
Is there a relay or something similar to a flasher relay that I can connect the two positives (one from each turn signal) and outputs one positive?
The output positive would be the hot wire (with the positive signal from either the left or the right)...


Anyone? :confused1:

This is a tricky one Vando. Looking at the wiring diagram it seems that the repeater bulb gets its earth through either the front indicato light that is switched on, or through the other one. Either way it seems that you need to maintain the double positive to the repeater bulb.
If you put in a separate earth to it then you seem to be providing an earth to all the other indicator bulbs too.
that's how it looks to me anyway.

Or instead of the frame ground I can connect it to the wiring negative.. any should work I guess...

Do you guys think this works I ain't got diodes to try it right now?
The use of the Diodes is to not allow both turn signal positives to interact with eachother as this will make all 4 turn signals blink at the same time lol..

and well, after a few hours of research I found a relay that fits my needs lol!

Actually, I found two ways!

First, a DPST relay! (Double Pole Single Throw)
Second a DPDT relay! (Double Pole Double Throw)

DPST: Merging B1 and B2! to make the positive lead of the turn signal indicator light!

DPDT: Suposing A1 and A2 are only switched on when electric current follows through C1 or C2, I'd only need to merge A1 and A2 and attach it to the positive lead of the turn signal indicator light!

Double Pole Double Throw relay!

Plus, had a small class of how resistors are used and what the color codes actually mean!

I think your diode idea is a better one Vando. I'd be concerned about the relays surviving very long with the constant on/off. They're not normally designed for that kind of use. Still, always worth a try.
But ...... what I can't quite understand is why the original wiring scheme doesn't work for you. Have you made significant changes to the dash unit or its wiring? If so, can't you change it back to how Yamaha originally designed it?

Kent... Yeah, I also think the diode idea is the best one.

I haven't changed that part of the wiring..
I've only increased the length of the rear cables that go to the TCI and stuff.
Other than that, I've fitted the an light switch from a DT125R that has an off position for the headlights...

here is the wiring diagram:

items 29 and 30 are the front turn signals and you can immediately see that the positives are the Dg and the Ch.

If you follow the wiring back to the turn signal indicator light (item #33) you can see that both cables are positives.

The Weird thing is that with the XT's stock dashboard it works! lol


I just don't know what how many Watts diodes I will actually need so I emailed trailtech and they'll be replying soon I hope..

I'm gonna try and find out what bulbs they use and see if I can find it on my own..

Is there any way to test how many watts the Trailtech bulbs use with a multimeter or voltimeter?

I've just recalled a previous posting on this subject. Have you fitted LED bulbs Vando?

the wattage of the trailtech bulb is irrelavant you are blocking the reverse voltage across all the indicators if your using standard bulbs not LED's then you will in theory need a 3amp diode but if you can't get a couple of those 1amp should be fine as the indicators flash so the load is not constant.

Hi all!

Well, I do have LED turn signals and LED flasher relay...

The trailtech turn signal indicator light bulb is very similar to the XT's stock bulb but is much thinner and not as tall...

I haven't had any experience with diodes and resistors and relays and such things so I'm also learning how they work...


Kent, do you have a link on that?

led's dont draw much current so that's why all your indicators flash you will need to earth one side of the trailtech bulb and use the two diode set up you posted erlia so 1/4 watt diodes would be fine due to the low current draw of the led's

Yeah I know..

With the bulb on, all 4 blinkers blink at the same time but when I disconnect the bulb from the trailtech dashboard wiring everything works like it's supposed to..

1/4W... by that you mean two 1/8W diodes.. one for each wire or 1/4 for each wire?

That's gonna be hard finding those around here... =\
I'll have to try and find any carshop or computer shop that sells those because if I get them from ebay they'll take a long time to arrive and MOT's are only during this week!

you could trash an old radio or something to get hold of a couple of diodes they are a good source for diodes and resistors
