Fixed!

I was able to brake apart an old non working P.S.U. (power supply unit) and was able to find two diodes that work perfectly!

I even turned the bike on just to make sure! :P

Both the diodes have 3 "legs" and have a drawing which represents the diodes: --->|-|<---
The middle leg is for the ground and the other two are for the positives!

The larger diode has written on it: D83-04

It's the two diodes that look like transistors on the bottom of the picture.
One is larger than the other but I'll be fitting the larger on because it's easier to make the connections so no short-circuiting happens!

the larger one seems to be missing one of the three legs but it is just bent upwards a bit.. (special effects lol) it's the same diode as the one attached to that bit of alluminum!

Tomorrow I'll be soldering it in place!

BTW, should I fit a heatsink on it?
I doubt it'll get hot but still....better safe than sorry!

oh, one more thing... anyone know where I can get a Hazzard light button?

who knows..if I find a cute button that looks good I just might fit one and use it for Hazzards! :mchappy:

So, summing up....
If anyone wants to be able to have hazzards lights just do it like this:

Tap into both positives from the front turn signals with the use of two separate pieces of wire and connect them to an I/0 switch / pushbutton / whatever switch and secure it somewhere of easy access!

Ok so I have a question. Turning left my bike works just fine. Indicator works and so do the lights, but turning right... All the lights blink and the indicator doesn't work. SO my right hand diode has fried? Now I have looked through the shop manuels and schematics, but where are those Diodes located physically on the bike?

Check the relay, its beside the battery.

The blinker relay is just fine. It works good. It makes everything blink like it should, its just that all 4 blink when turning right. This was a hit or miss problem before almost when hitting large bumps etc. Now its all the time. :( I have checked a lot of things but nothing I do seems to fix it.

Check the switch itself for wear or corrosion internally. It has three contact balls and the slider. Maybe corrosion or wear is allowing contact to both sides when the switch is over to the right. I take all mine apart yearly to clean up dust and stuff full of dielectric grease , they usually have a lot of junk in them.

This is just a guess but it could be a mis-wire. Check the indicator wires are plugged in to the proper wires. I know on the mid to late 80's XT's the indicator in the speedo is wired across to the "hot" side of the left and right turnsignal wires. The bulb voltage in the speedo is very low but when either left or right side is selected the indicator bulb in the speedo grounds thru the filements of the non selected side. If something was mis-wired in this area may explain your problem.

Another bit of info, if you have a different wattage bulb in one or both of the turn signals the flash rate will vary. If memory serves, you need 27 watt bulbs in all 4 turn signals (indicators) and a special bulb in the speedo indicator...
