TTR600RE Clutch cable same as XT600???

Coz there is a limited choice of supplies for the TTR :( does anyone know if the clutch cable is the same as the XT600E early 90's ????
They do look similar (with the 90 deg bend at the engine casing) an I've been told the motor is basically the same :confused1:

I think it may be different to the XT, you should be able to get one from any yamaha dealer. In my experience genuine parts fit, last well and are not always expensive.

I needed a new clutch cable for my TTR600RE, Yamaha quoted £48,00 which I thought was expensive and somebody on here kindly gave me a link to Venhill I was impressed with the service £10 plus p&p & VAT to replace your inner cable and £21.00 plus p&p & VAT to replace inner and outer if you send your broken one.

They get my recommendation. :thumbup1:

Exactly, Ive always paid about £15-18 pounds for clutch cables, my clutch felt really smooth and easy afterwards, money well spent. :)
It always pays to ask the guys on here.

Bump...:-)

Anyone know if a clutch cable from a XT600E (maybe 1990-1995) will fit a TT600RE?

Wemoto.com has a clutch cable for a XT600E 1991-1994 listed, but not for aTT600RE...

Pigford 2 Nov 2009 21:28

From what I can gather - the TTR600RE has a one-off clutch due to the metal 90 deg bend at the l/h crankcase :(

I thought I'd found one off eBay - £17, but although it was listed for a TTR, it was wrong. They gave me a refund OK though :thumbup1:

Finally ordered one from eBay aff someone called Cygnus - in Greece :confused1:

Just have to wait for it to be sent over on the boat :rolleyes2:

G600 3 Nov 2009 19:34

Thanks Pigford, please tell if the clutch cable fits, and if this Cygnus guy seems OK.

Since the 1990-1995 XT600E has the same engine as the TT600RE, shouldn’t the clutchcable fit at the engine?? But the rest of the cable is another story, length exc…

UPDATE:

Got my clutch cable & speedo surround today! Maria was who I dealt with, and she was very helpful. The items are spot on, and genuine Yamaha stuff. The delivery took 2 weeks, and considering the strikes, was fair. Heres a link to one of their items -

GENUINE YAMAHA METER BRACKET TT600 (TT600R, TT600RE) on eBay (end time 05-Dec-09 09:04:32 GMT)

Pigfort, thanks. Good to know.

I wanted to try out a 14t front sprocket on my TT600RE, so I ordered one from wemoto last night. I also ordered a clutch cable for a 1991-1994 XT600E.

If the cable doesn’t fit, well, I have made bigger mistakes… :smartass::smartass:

Update -- YES, the clutch cable from a 1991-1994 XT600E will fit the TT600RE. BUT it is not the exact same part.

I fitted the clutch cable last night. It works fine, but is a little longer (maybe 6 cm). Also it is a little loose where it fits the clutch lever holder (name??) as it is maybe one mm narrower. It is genuine Yamaha, but looks like it is made by another manufacturer than the stock TT600RE clutch cable.

For anyone thinking about this….. I would stick to the stock TT600RE clutch cable….. the XT’s cable works fine but does not fit as perfectly.

if you have the time and patience all you need to do is replace the inner cable which is a lot cheaper than the whole assembly :thumbup1:

I fitted a differnt clutch cable to my TTR it had the same fittings but was about 40mm longer it all worked but the clutch was very stiff, it was not possible to route the cable any way to make the clutch lighter.
I cut the cable down and fitted a screw nipple and all was good.
I also got quoted over £40 for a TTR clutch cable but a friend of mine got one from the Yamaha shop for about £20.

I personally wouldnt have 100% faith in one of those screw on nipples and much prefer proffesionally made ones.

Update on the XT600E clutch cable for my TT600RE..

My goal with buying the new cable was to lighten the clutch lever pull. The old cable was OK but old, so I thought a new cable would help. I was disappointed, there was no great difference.

Last night I managed to reroute the cable beautifully, as it is longer than the stock TT600RE cable. It required a few zip ties. No sharp bends. Now the cable is NOT coming out of the dashboard. I could move the clutch lever unit maybe 3 cm away from the grip increasing the lever ratio, softening the pull. The smooth bends on the cable also help.

The difference is considerable. I can’t wait to try the bike out.

So maybe the XT600E clutch cable may be the better choice for those that don’t mind a little extra work and a few zip ties… :smartass:
