starting difficult

Hi,

Bought an '03 XT 600E on 13.000 kms in very good condition.

Bike starts after a few minutes of coughing in difficulty.

- Have gas
- No problem with battery

Possible problems :
- Starter motor
- ?

Could you please share your experiences with me concerning this issue.

Don't want to be ripped of when applied to mecanics...

Thx

Is it the same cold or warm?

When cold, does it take some time (after is fired up) before you ran stop running on choke?

Perhaps som carb alcohol (dunno what its called) the stuff that makes tiny amounts of water in the fuel, blend with the gas.... Ethanol.... Couldn't hurt trying.

You could also check/clean airfilter, and you're idlespeed (how high is it)

It might be worth checking your valve clearances. I have a TTR600 that could be a bugger to start. After closing the exhaust gap back to spec it now starts off the button first time every time.

- Difficult when it is cold. Starts easier after running a while thoughs gets off quite often after starting.
After warming up, it gets start easier.
Next morning difficult again. When the parking time is longer, gets start more difficult... ? !

I always make the choke off before going ride...

Yes, but how long does the bike need to idle with choke, before it can idle without?

I would also tell uyou to get somebody to helt you with checking valve clearances.

3-5 mins running on choke makes it all-right :) :scooter:

Will check the clearances when bike is up from the parking lot for winter :(

How far out is you're co(fuel) screw, I can tak of the choke by the time my helmet and gloves are on (10-20seconds) at a few minus degrees celcious.

It could be running a tad lean on the idle system, making it harder to start from cold.
