I crossed into Iran from Armenia at the Noordoz border crossing on the 20/7/2019 on a BMWF800GSA.
The border crossing was quite easy on both the Armenian and Iran side, although, needed local truck drivers help to direct me through the process.
Arrived on Saturday 8am and all complete around 10am. No questions were asked, no searches and the only delay was the wait for the Carnet to be processed. (It appeared the desk is only manned starting from 9-9:30am and not open Thursday and Friday).
They said there was a requirement to change to Iranian plates. I was directed to the Jolfa Traffic Police Office just outside Jolfa on the road to Tabriz. They were out of plates so advised to pick up plates in Tabriz.
However, when I went to the Police office in Tabriz I was told plates were not required if only in the country for 10days.
You need insurance, which was 990,000Rial for a month.
I have been stopped by police multiple times and no issue, just wanted to look at the bike and have a chat.

Hi Geagle.
Did you entered whit bike driving it or you took the truck for your bike?

If she would use a truck, then she would not need licence plates.

I rode through the border crossing and have now ridden through to Tehran. The displacement of the motorcycle is clearly shown on the Carnet, my motorcycle registration papers and on the motorcycle itself. I don't know for sure if the 250cc limit has been lifted or not but I was not challenged through the border crossing or in my later encounters with the police.

28th of july i crossed the border from Bilasuvar in Azerbaijan into Iran with a BMW 1200 GSA.
I had no trouble whatsoever. I was helped by a very friendly person. Got a lot of tea and was asked many friendly questions. It took around 2,5 hours to cross the border.
Hope this works for other travellers as well. I tried at all three Turkish borders and was refused.
No Iranian licence plates necessary. You of course do need a Carnet de Passage. It takes a lot of time for them to figure out how to do the paperwork.
Good travels

This is good news. Let anyone who is trying to cross please let the community know that they did successfully or not. Also the location is important. Thanks!

We crossed from Azerbaijan to Iran via Astara border on 5th July 2019 with Yamaha Super Tenere 1200. It took 8 hours to get us through and get the necessary stamps for carnet. We came through the same border last year with no problems; now it was quite difficult and took lots of time, talk-talk and 150 euros "fee", before we got all clear. Besides of the border experience we got very warm welcome everywhere where we went - just like last year. Definitely we go again! Lots to see and experience in Iran!

Turkey-Iran Border

Gurbulak - Bazargan border

I’m presently driving through Iran. I crossed into Iran from Turkey side and stayed overnight at Dogubeyazit and then drove 30 km to the Gurbulak - Bazargan border on 15th August with my New Zealand registered Toyota Landcruiser V8 Diesel with the help of Mr Hossein Ravanyar from Iran Overland (the old Hossein) He is mentioned in Iran Lonely Planet book and he was very good in arranging all the required paperwork carnet & Insurance to enter. Its strongly recommended to arrive early at the border gate 6am as there are lots of buses that start arriving full of passengers.
Iran is an amazing place to visit with lots to see and do and the people are so friendly towards tourists.
Only advice is to plan your fuel stops well if you have a Diesel engine as they have a crazy law that you have to have a fuel card to buy Diesel but the local truck drivers are helpful to use their fuel card so you need to give them a small tip. Not all fuel stations sell diesel but if you look on the iOverlander app it shows fuel stops that sell diesel.
Safe Travels

Iran mit dem Motorrad

Hallo,

At least the ban is gone. No problems to enter Iran with a big bike. Topic closed. [emoji3][emoji106]
