We have to crate and deliver the bikes to a warehouse in Delta and should take 35-40 days transit time. Talked to 2 different dealers and both are willing to give metal/cardboard motorcycle crates for FREE.

Found air flights for ourselves from Seattle to Santiago today $489 USD each, Last week they were $607 USD each.

Is $1171.56 for both bikes or each bike? Is that a bulk rate or is that just the normal price? I'm getting excited!

Hi Sean,

That price is for both bikes. That rate is based on the cubic meter of crate size. Marwin's phone # is 1-877-232-2206

We booked of flight to Santiago October 5. We are thinking of shipping our bikes out Sept 1 to arrive the week of Oct 13. That would give us a week of spanish classes in Santiago before picking up our bikes.

Right now flight from Vancouver to Santiago on Oct 5 is $694 USD. Check out Kayak.com. Great search engine for flights and travel.

If you want help crating, let me know. Whats one more?

Just to add in the info that we've gathered so far....

One quote each for sea and air.

For a 20-foot container from Seattle to Valparaiso, $3150 (USD). However, that is Port to Port so doesn't include getting the empty container from the port to the shipping agent and then getting the full container back to the port, nor does it include getting it through customs in Seattle. And I don't know what the port fees would be on the Chilean side.

Sounds like using Baseline Forwarding out of Vancouver is a better deal, unless the container is FULL of bikes.

For air freight Seattle to Santiago, the quote is USD$2578.55. That's for a crate 42"Lx72"Wx48"H weighing 318 kg. (inches and kilos in the same quote!) However, that size crate would be charged for 397 kg, so presumable, 397 kg is really the weight limit.

We would have to deliver the crate to the facility in Seattle. The bikes would travel via LAX and MIA. 4-6 days transit time.

The lower transit time for air freight sure is nice. I don't know how different the hassles are for each mode in Chile. I've been assuming that we would probably have to hire a shipping agent in Chile to handle the port rigamarole, but I don't know about airfreight.

Anybody have input on that one?

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Martina has given me an estimate of $100.000 pesos (Approx $200 CAN) per bike to help through customs. Not sure of the customs charges at the Chile import side. There may be a few other smaller charges like storage at the warehouse until we pick them up. We can also arrange to stay with them at their Villa Kunterbunt Valpo.

Mark, Thanks for the lead. I'm days away from departure and Baseline Forwarding (Marwan) came through with a flight for the bike directly into Bogota. We leave this week-end. I'll update the shipping database for anyone else interested... I'm convinced Baseline is the only gig in town doing bikes.

See you in SA!

Looks like I'm out of the loop as far as joining in on the transport of bikes to SA due to sliding knee surgery dates. LOTS of great info here and I will Bookmark the thread for future reference. Shipping out of Miami would be the more logical choice for me. Hopefully I'm going to attending the HU meeting in North Carolina in a few weeks where I hope to get more info on shipping from the East Coast.

Thanks all, and Moxie - have a marvelous and safe adventure.

Hey Moxie.

How much did it cost you for one bike? How long of a notice did you need to give before shipping the bike? I'm in Ontario and might ride my bike out to BC to ship in South.

Hi Moxie. Sent you a PM that may be of some help regarding Bogota. Good Luck.
