My bike goes with DAMCO on 10th of september, €400 Dutch side, and I expect (estimated guess) a total of $750 (€590) in B.A. includig Dakar Motors.
I tried Peet van Dam in Rotterdam (transported my bike from Australia), but he is allmost twice as expensive.
I have contact with Dakar Motors and Sandra is going to bring the bike in, costs $250.
Note that when your bike arrives in the harbour you got 5days (not workingdays but just 5 days) to get your bike out of the warehouse.
After that they will charge storage, could end up expensive.
You have to be there in person to collect your bike.

Thank you for the very useful information Kenny, defiantly looks like the way to go.

Cowgirl, I’ve shipped by Air/Sea/Ferry about 10 times in the past, so yes, I have some experience with shipping a motorbike to different continents.
My timetable for shipping is around the 20th of October 2010, and I hope to clear the bike not later than 20th of November, and ride to Ushuaia for the Christmas meeting there.
If these dates work for you Cowgirl, and if you like, we can try and ship together, maybe it will make the process a bit cheaper. I can call/contact you when in Europe, hopefully, around the 25th of September.

Thoughts of crating?
 

I don't hear anybody of you guys about crating the bike. You're all shipping without a crate?
Apart from the costs mentioned you need a crate. At least I do, I was told bij various transporters. The crate needs to be certified and built by a certified crating company. Costs at least € 400 incl tax. Hope I can carry it with me for the way back. :rolleyes2:

Cowgirl I forgot about this thread but to answer your question from before, I'm shipping to Colombia, back from BA. Damco has a good offer but has no agent in Colombia, that's why I chose for another company (vd Put Oceanfreight) All similar prices, Peet van Dam is similar too but more expensive on the crate (€550)

Bike is in a crate, don't think they even take uncrated bikes.
In my homble opinion you shouldn't want to ship your bike uncrated.
Ask local motorbike companies, they get their new bikes in crates, and regard it as waste. you can often get them for free.
You can make it yourself, though you maybe have to certify it that the wood is treated.
