Looking for a How to on shipping a bike by plane.
I`d like to ship my bike from Japan back to the Uk. I`m currently living in Japan at the moment and am completely flummoxed by how to start off. I live in Osaka and have contacted Osaka international airport, they gave me some information but not much at all. ideally I`d like to know how I should start going about it! The best way seems to be just head over to the cargo terminal and start asking questions, just looking to glean some information from others that have done this before.
Thanks Alistair P.s. I did check the shipments page but there isn`t any information on going out of Japan, neither any into japan. |
Check with airlines directly
I suggest contacting all airlines you would normally fly with to return to the UK, many offer great cargo services. Expect to leave some serious bucks there though, from Osaka to UK, humm, but why on earth would you want to lift the bike there? if you plan ahead you would save a lot by shipping by sea. Air is at least 2x as much and more. Good luck.

Yup
Alistair,
Heidi and Bernd are right. Mr. Furukawa from Interfracht is (maybe) the best option! His phone number is: 03-6240-1760 Maybe it helps a little if you tell him the two and I referred you! Just be patient with him from time to time!!! |
Yo Bernd and Heidi , how's life in south America? Been a long time and been working hard here in Japan that I haven't had time to read your blog!spoke to enrico the other day on skype the other day, he's moving to Amsterdam next time and has made me promise to visit at least twice a year for the next three years, when you get back to Europe well all have to have a reunion. Got a quote of 100 000 yen from interfrect to ship the bike home.have rebuilt the engine, replaced pretty much everything apart from the casings, it was so ****ed. Thanks to everyone for the info I'll update everyone when I've got ting sorted.
