This looks great. What is the best bet for insurance for the bike? How much should you be paying for 3 months across Asia / Russia. F650 DK

I don't understand this policy. Normally insurance is required to cover the damage you do (to people and property) and not you. Why would this policy be the complete opposite?

In the Middle East and Arabic countries you really want the other people covered or you will be spending quite a spell in jail.

We are discussing travel health insurance here that covers you riding a bike, not insurance for your bike (aka comprehensive cover) or third party liability.

You will most likely have the option (or be forced ) to buy 3rd party insurance at borders.

Most countries require this. Many people fake it, some people just stuff a handful of dollars into the hand of a local if you hit them.

Depends where you are in the world really.

''Hi Fern

Thanks for your email.

If you injure yourself while riding a motor bike you are covered under the standard policy (Level 1) provided the motor bike engine is under 125cc.

If it's over 125cc, you'll need to pay a Level 2 premium.

At any level, you will need to wear a helmet and you must have a valid UK motor bike licence.

Unfortunately, this policy does not extend to cover you if you are motor bike touring or your motor bike is the main mode of transport. It can't be added, even for an additional premium.

Personal liability is excluded while motor bike riding and there is no cover for the motor bike itself.

As with all our activities, you are not covered if you ride a motor bike at a professional level i.e. you are being paid or sponsored or if you compete at international events as a national representative or motor sports.

There is provision for cover on a one-way journey. You do not need to be commencing or ending your journey in the UK to qualify for this policy.

However, if your trip is for the purposes of emigration, the policy benefits will cease within 24 hours of arrival into the country you are emigrating to except if you are travelling around that destination before settling and working.

The policy covers emergency medical only and will not cover you for general health checks or vaccinations required for the purposes of obtaining a visa.

Kind regards,

Jo

I got response from world Nomads that they will not insure you if you travel with motorcycle.
You can try Cheap worldwide Travel Insurance, Single Trip Holiday Insurance, Car Hire Excess Insurance, they insure you even if you travel with mc.
I took my extended 2 year insurance from ADAC.

worldwideinsure got a good price for me, however even though it lists motorycling in additional sporting actvities you still need to say you'll be doing OVERLAND motorcycling and they will add an endorsement.

It seems to me that travel insurance comes down to medical repatriation cover (that is where the potential big costs are), which has a sticky thread here:- http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...idents-21155-8

Apart from the personal medical aspects, travel ins generally amounts to personal effects thereafter - baggage, cancellation of travel costs and that type of thing. These are all of great interest to those on package tours but not of great relevance to independant travellers.
