Heading South

Peter and all,I will also be leaving Vancouver for S.A in late Sept or early Oct. I have lots of experience riding in North America but none south of the American boarder.I ride a 07 KLR650,I am 58 years old and would like to hook up with other riders for this trip. This will be a open ended trip for me as I am retiring on Sept 7/07. If you would like to talk more about this call me at 250-3987587. I am in Williams Lake B.C

Pete,
I'll be leaving NC around the first week of October. Have not decided where to cross yet, either McAllen or Presidio. Maybe CC, maybe not. Keep in touch and we will meet up somewhere.

Patrick,
Have you settled on "the" tire yet?? I'm curious because I'm still mulling the choice over -- mileage vs grip vs stability vs roar vs comfort vs vs vs??? Carry a 606 and ride a gripster for the first 8+k miles?? I'm still up in the air over 606's, Sahara 3s or Gripsters since the first multi k miles will be allmost all asphalt.

Chris,
A Ural/KLR combo won't be hard to spot.

Chris,
Yeah, looks that the timing could work out OK.
Again, I will be out of here -Vancouver, B.C.- first of October.
Would be great to meet up.
I am confused about "NC" You mean North Carolina?
Well,we will talk.
Peter

NC = North Carolina

I also am just retired (from education at 55) and looking for a riding partner/s. I'm flexible with starting dates and destinations. Mexico and Central America sound good to me. I'm an experienced rider but haven't ridden out of the US before. The security of a riding partner or group appeals to me. I would be riding an 06 DR 650. Camping or hoteling are both ok with me. I've finally got some time and a little money to piss away.
Are any firm plans being made that I might get in on?

Bob

Bob,I talked with Peter Oechsler on the phone today and we have a tentative plan to leave Vancouver B.C around the first of Oct/07.I think we both have small issues to deal with before we can confirm the date but we are both keen to go. Where are you located? We would likely be heading straight to Mexico?I think it would be great to hook up with a small group of people and ride together. My phone # is 250-3987587 if you want to talk about it in more detail.Hope to hear from you.........................................

This is a Hell of a tough issue. But in my garage sits
Gripsters, in my experience,
If you're riding with a Ural outfit you'll have room for everything...and then some.

A nice introduction to Mexico, and Latin America in general

break into the tour

Hey there Peter,
I am doing a very similar trip and would love to meet for a coffee some time this weekend, as I am doing a warm up trip across canada next week.
Any chance I could call you or you could call me?

I'm in!

Hi friends,
I start my RTW from Victoria, BC into WA state on 9/11. Making my way to Sandy Ego then on to the Baja for 16 Sep, Mexican Independance Day. Sweet!

About a week or two there, then ferry over to mainland Mexico. I'll be chilling and getting some Spanish and guitar lessons either in S. Mexico or Guatemala. I'm sure I'll be bumping in to all y'all at some time.

Hope to see you in Viedma and/or Ushuaia this summer (Dec '07)

[Hi Daryll,
Tried your tel:#, but couldn't get you.
Changed computers and thrashed your e-mail address.
What else could go wrong today?
Give me a call or message.
It would be nice to get together and shoot the breeze.

Hi Bob,
It would be good to meet up with you.
I looks as though Wayne Adamson from Williams Lake,B.C. and I will be leaving Vancouver on or about October first.
Where will you be riding from?
Keep an eye on this site, as we will leave a progress report.
Riding with a partner will take some of the pressure off, when things get a bit dicey.
Keep in touch,
Peter

[Hey Mitch,
You are really getting on.....TWENTY EIGHT!!!! Wow.
Good on you doing a RTW.
It would be great to run into you somewhere.
We oldtimers don't discriminate. When it comes to drinking beer, we even try to outdo the young guys.
Hope to see you on the road.

Hi Dave,
Yeah, I would like to sit and chat. I did leave you a phone message.
Three weeks ago I returned from a cross Canada trip, so it would be good to talk about that.
