South America

Hi all
Looking for riding partner to do South America this winter. Thinking of flying into Santiago and renting bike there. I want to drive south to TDF and then back up to Santiago. Would like to do a month more or less. Route not carved in stone nor is the departure time. If you are even thinking of going hit me back.

Hi Larry, I'll be flying into Ecuador probably at the beginning of september , then going south to TDF. Don't know if this is of any use to you.

Hi Larry,

So you are not interested in buying any more?

I'm planning to go from Santiago to TDF and back (perhabs Osorno) from mid december. About 3 weeks in total.

Might see you on the road...

Jens

to Tierra del Fuego

Land in Santiago Mid November and then travel south to Tierra del Fuego before heading North back to Canada. My wife and I are traveling 2 up on a Harley. Arrival date will be confirmed as soon as I find a shipping company for my bike. We are looking forward to meeting and having a few beers with other travelers.

Hi Larry ,

I have something similar in mind , but I'm only at the "thinking" stage right now ,
I would appreciate some info on bike rentals in Chile and any possible hassles regarding crossing the border into Argentina with a rented bike .

motorcycle rentals in SA

I am sure you can find lots more doing a search. Seems most that I found had someone that spoke english. I am at my office now so do not have all of my saved ones but I do not think it matters to much. I would sure love to talk to you more about going as I have not been able to put anyone into the trip yet. Larry

Dodger,

You shouldn't have any problems crossing the border to Argentina, provided you tell the rental company in advance. You will need an 'authorisation' to take the bike across the border and should have international third party insurance covering Argentina.

I know Motoaventura will most certainly make sure you have these documents (if you speak to them, say hello from me to Sonia and Roberto).

Hello Christine,
We are two friends going south. We are right now in Mexico and we are planning to be in Ecuador beginning of September. Hope to see you over there or somewhere on the road.

Ecuador - Sept

Hi Antonis, I'm still planning to leave in Sept but I'm still trying to find more information about customs procedures and the name of a good agent to help me get the bike in. I'm also considering flying into Chile as it seems a bit more straightforward at the moment. How long do you plan on staying in Ecuador? Where will you go after that do you think? If I'm there at the same time We can meet up for a chat
Christine

Hello Christine,
We dont know exactly how long we will be in Ecuador, but probably we will stay there about 1-2 weeks. From there we will go to Peru, then Bolivia, Argentina, Chile...and where ever the road lead us. We have a lot of time so we dont make specific plans. Hope to see you on the road. Good luck with the shipping.

Antonis

Larry,

This sounds VERY interesting to me. I was thinking of spending a month or so in Argentina this coming January or February. Is that too late for you?
I was originally thinking of shipping my bike and trying to store it there as I have done in past in Mexico. But with the limited time I have, I'm not sure I could justify the expense. Renting may be a great option!

I'd be interested in hearing about any preliminary plans you may have made.

Saludos,
Mike.

Glad you are coming back... except you are coming without Kate... what a shame... maybe we can hook with you if I find someone renting any of my two Super Tenere's to go down to Ushuaia after the HU meeting in Viedma...
Cheers and don't work too hard... your XT600 needs a 'rested' bike handler
