Made it to Puerto Escondido. Hot along the coast. Hope the trip does actually get started for you soon.

Mexico
We did finally make it and without any trouble at the border or with bike importation. We were in Monclova then a few days in Saltillo. We are now in Zacatecas, which is amazing and cooler at 26 ish compared to 38 on the way south. I was in Puerto Escondido in 1991 im sure it has changed. ride safe. Sara

I'm downright envious of your trip and daydreaming of my own trip in 2010. You'll love Oaxaca, make sure to explore the rather extensive pedestrian area downtown. Taxco, albeit somewhat touristy, was also quite nice, and San Miguel de Allende is great. All those places are also at fairly high altitude so you'll experience much better temperatures. Mexico is an amazing country with amazing people and amazing sites. I hope you get to take your time through Central America as well. It's also full of wonderful people and sights. My biggest regret on the trip was that I was too rushed on the way back and never made it into Mexico City where I'd been invited by the Diamonds.
Travelling vicariously through and reminiscing reminiscing in my rocking chair ...poetic licence employed ;-) ...almost forgot. San Cristobal de Las Casas was pretty neat as well. Especially if you can hit it during a festival weekend. I was fortunate to be there during Easter Weekend. An endless sea of Mexican families and the occasional gringo. ...Michelle www.scrabblebiker.com |
Thanks
Michelle
We appreciate you advice so much! We have changed our plans to include Allende for sure. The Diamonds are very kind to invite us as well. I was last in Mexico City, Oaxaca, and San Cristobal in 1991 so I'm sure they has changed. Cooler would be nice as we had 38 on the way to Saltillo. Please follow us on Hu ride report or our web site as we would love any further help and hints from someone with your experience. I hear from home you guys are enjoying a spectacular fall so far. My sister in Squamish said it was 29 for Thanksgiving. Sara |
Yup! record breaking dry spell in Victoria. No precipitation to speak off since August 1st. But based on our miserable spring and early summer, it's just about "normal" when averaged out :-) Lots of amazing riding weather, and by some strange cosmic coincidence I've also been unemployed since August 2nd. Just this past Wednesday I went to Vancouver and hiked to Norvan Falls in spectacular, perfect hiking weather.
But the rains are forecast to finally come around this Friday. Just in time for going back to school for the winter. Is there really a god for outdoorsy biker types after all? :-) I'll check in to your blog now and then when I can tear myself away from Trigonometry, Calculus, multiphase electrical systems, Canadian Electrical Code, etc. I'd be happy to offer advice based on my personal experiences if you're open to that. ...Michelle www.scrabblebiker |
very open
we would LOVE advice thanks so much

Mexico NOT what you expect
Well like most of you we were told by everyone we met on the way from Vancouver to the North and then south that Mexico is very dangerous. That we would be robbed, killed, ripped off and hassled.
Im glad to tell you that all those predictions have so far been completely wrong. The zone north of Zacatecas I will admit is a bit more intimidating with the military presence, but not too scary. The people here have been kind and very friendly. We have managed with our pretty pathetic Spanish with out too much trouble. It is really worth the trip. Sara |

I don't see why we wouldn't let a Chinese Biker stay. Just send me a PM and we'll fix it up.

in San Cris
I'm in San Cristobal for awhile...may take off sooner than later for Guat if anyone's around

There are three of us getting tires put on now and trying to cross tecate in a day or two. We just are looking to get our insurance thing figured out today or tomorrow and start heading south. We will use the ferry in the bottom of the baja and cross over to Mazatlan. Maybe we can meet up down there somewhere

You can buy the insurance on line best price was mexpro.
We would love to meet up. We try to keep our current location on our website worldwideride.ca or you can contact us there. We are meeting some other bikers in Oaxaca this weekend. Sara |
