Hi all
Hi all, I’ am new to this form and this thread really interests me. I was planning my own Trans -Russia trip (sole as I had yet to find someone “up for it”) when I came across this web site. It really is a fantastic resource (It’s also good to know I’am not “mad” and other people have jacked the day job, saved some money and went for it!). I would be really interested in this trip and if the costing does not exceed £10,000 (this is a bit more than my planed Russian budget) I think I can have this level of funding available for this departure date. I’am unable to post P.M’s as of yet so hears my pitch!. I’am young fit and easy goin (alto very determined when I set my mind to things)I’ve Worked closely with motorcycles all my life and have a fair bit of experience riding them and working on them ect. (This incl the last 4 years of racing and road racing experience hear in Ireland). Alan, can you let me know if you can fit me into your plans and if it would be possible to join your party leaving on this massive undertaking. Cheers all George

Hi Alan,
I would be keen to meet you when you’re over. I live in Omagh Co.Tyrone N.Ireland. I will travel to meet you regardless of where you are staying for your weeding. As of yet I have no suitable machine (I’ am keen on a 06 KTM 650 adventure although open to advice Ideas?). I have a sport’s road bike and a racer which will both soon be gone. I’ve spent some time to day looking at my finance and believe I would be able to commit to this trip. Thanks for your positive response. I look forward to hearing from you. Hopefully at the end of next month you will have one member of the team committed and on bored. Cheers George |
I will travel to meet you regardless of where you are staying for your wedding. (Just correcting that spelling mistake).Cheers

thanks for quick reply, i also looked at KTM 650 AdV. not trying to influence you in any way but, after a fair bit of research i opted for a BMW 650 Dakar. my main reasons were, cheaper, much better worldwide backup in case of problems, seems to be the favourite bike for this type of trip, fuel economy, and apparrently much more comfortable. Apparrently the KTM vibrates badly and you would be for ever tightening things up including your teeth!! Also the KTM is not available New, they have a new model coming out. I have bought a NEW 2006 BMW Dakar for these reasons. (COLLECT it tomorrow) If you did decide on BMW we could share spares etc. etc. I am curious how much the bikes would cost in Ireland, I know where there is a BMW Dakar over here 2006 BMW pre. registered still owned by BMW with 125 miles on the clock can be bought for £5000.00 I am going on a bit. Let me know if you are still interested and we will arrange a meet when i am over your way(not a wedding just visiting friends) and of course a drop of the black stuff!! Regards Alan |

Hi Alan,
I'll send you an e-mail about regarding meeting when you are over. As for the choice of bike (you seem to have done you homework and know what your talking about) cost will come in to my decision but I have to agree with you in an ideal world a BMW would be my choice as well. I don’t think I will buy a new machine I would like to get one a year old with low mileage (2000-3000). I could then take advantage of it depreciating in value and being nicely run in. I will also go to mainland UK to get it as bikes they are generally quite a bit cheaper (even when you take into account the cost of getting it home). I have done this in the past. |

Alan,
I have sent you an email to the bikeralan@... address. Myself and a friend have just started to look into doing exactly the same trip, starting June 07 and on BMW bikes (he wants GS1200A, I think GS650D would be better as lighter -important in Mongolia-) Let me know if you didn't get the email. Regards, Riccardo |
Alan,
Just wondering how you were going wiht your trip planning and whether you have a full compliment of cast and crew. FYI, I have just had my long service leave approved (basically a legal right to bonus paid holidays working for the one employer for 10 plus years) for April 2006 thru Sept 2006. Was reading through the Hubb and your trip is an appealing option...although the only bike tours I have done have been on good roads in Western countries (92: 3 mths US, 98: 3 mths Scandinavia/UK/Holland).
