Alaska July-August 2011?
Anyone planning to roll through Fort Nelson, British Columbia, Canada (Mile 300 Alaska Highway) to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska in July - August 2011?
If so, I'd like to join the ride. I'm an experienced moto traveler (Western Canada, US, Alaska, Mexico & Central America). I usually ride solo, but I live in the north and I know that traveling solo to Prudhoe is not a good idea given the sparse population, rough roads and unpredictable, possibly extreme, weather conditions along the way. Sooo, if you're making plans to go to Prudhoe this summer and wouldn't mind a riding partner, please contact me at: tsiyah@hotmail.com. You can also read about my travels so far at: Lowerider: Life's a Journey...Enjoy the Ride. :mchappy: |
see you in BC
HI
Unfortunately we will already be on our way south from prudhoe bay at that time. But as we're going towards Vancouver and Seattle early july, we might have a chance to see you on the road going north... Or just stop for a coffe Laurent & Carole PS : your links doesn't works |

I'll ride from Montreal to Prudhoe Bay at this time. I'm a solo rider too and make long legs (usually 1000 km / day but I may slack a bit while being in Alaska). My plans are to leave Montreal around June 25th and I'm planning to arrive in Fairbanks around the 1rst of July. The dates may drift 1 week (departure July 2nd). We could make the segment from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay and back together if you wish. When I come back to Fairbanks, I plan to go to Inuvik.
I will drive my R100GS (preparing it for the trip right now) and I plan to camp if weather is good. I have never been to Alaska yet but I have done James Bay and Labrador with my sidecar (my dog Choubaka will stay home this time. Yes, I know, we are both smiling on this picture). http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/j...edetChouba.jpg Fred |
Hey Fred. Love the pic :biggrin3:. Im still in the early stages of planning my trip but i'm definitely aiming to head up to Alaska around that time. It's mostly gonna be a make it up as you go along type trip but it'll be cool to have a couple of firm dates to plan things around. We can keep in contact in between and see how things pan out. I'm in the process of applying for the extended tourist visa and working out budgets, etc. In your experience what's a realistic daily budget for travelling up north, camping as much as possible?

If weather is OK, camping is not expensive: around 15-20 $ for a tent. Hotels are not cheap in Alaska (generally between 125 and 200$) so you must hope weather will be fine. There are a lot of free camping spots with no service along different highways. I'm planning to spend a few nights in hotels depending of the weather. Considering my road planning (1000 km /day), the last thing I want to do at the end of a rainy day is to sleep in my wet tent... |
Yeah i hear you. Fingers crossed for good weather :Beach:. Dunno if i could keep up with that sort of mileage but if we're on the road at the same time we could definitely meet up and talk bikes and dogs. Our jack russell is called fred too funnily enough lol. Short for Freddie Spencer....

Nice pics of the Dalton HWY ...... blessed are the makers of heated Jackets and grips :thumbup1:.

Nice pics. Suddenly camping up there doesn't seem so attractive :biggrin3:. Looks like there's gonna be plenty of company on the road at that time of year. Bushman-uk, i'll definitely keep in touch. Im still in the middle of planning my route but it sounds like we're thinking along similar lines. I'll post it as soon as i get my act together. Im a procrastinator :tongue_smilie:.

Traffic!
I'll be up there a bit later than you guys, aiming to hit Prudhoe Bay in the first week of August, but might we might still cross paths at some point.
I hadn't fully realised how cold it was going to be... those photos look very similar to mine in the Alps right before I got caught in a snow storm and ended up on my ass doh Already got the heated grips but suddenly that heated jacket is looking like a great investment! Fred, you have an awesome dog! |
