Hi Kayjay, nice to meet u on HUBB, I came from China. Refers to the rules you mentioned, "5 persons of the same nationality have to travel together", i'm sorry to hear that and you give up China part by this reason.
Hope my info is making sense for all friends: 1. For China, in principle there is no such rules. You can travel even just 1 PAX and there is no requirements on same nationality. 2. Some autonomous area sometime may have their requirements like Tibet. For this rule in Tibet, it happened before but it's not a absolute rules. Normally the policy of Tibet is not very fixed and we would update each March-April. For more discussion welcome to write to me, by my HUBB email or abby.zhang@navo-tour.com. Sincerely hope more guests visit and explore in our vast China and won't be trapped by government rules. :welcome: Quote:

Syncro
I don't know much about the vehicle I'm in charge of route and visa's but here is a breakdown from John - chief mechanic and husband
We have a 1988 T3 14” LHD Syncro with a Weinsberg conversion bought in Barcelona a couple of months ago. It hasn’t seen rain or a gritted road in a long time as its almost rust free! We are currently doing a lot of mods having stripped everything out and re-building the interior the way we want it with the appliances we need. Mechanically… We are upgrading the read swing arms to a longer reach to accommodate the 16” wheels and 235x70 tyres we are going to use. Presently we have Trailmaster shocks and springs but may end up changing these as they are rather stiff and don’t seem to be pre-loaded. The front arms we are changing from the pressed steel to cast. The rear brakes are changing to disc’s from the current drums to allow for the extra weight we will be carrying. We have an auxiliary 70l fuel tank under the van between the cill and prop protectors and on the opposite side is a similar water tank. We are upgrading the headlights and wing loom, probably the dash lights as well as these are all really dim – like me! – just thought I’d get that in before someone else does! Changing the gearing in the new box to give us a taller top end so possible cruising speed of 65-70 instead of 55!! zzzzz Adding cruise control for motorway driving Adding an intercooler to the 1.9TDI engine Adding power steering using original VW parts as they all fit the engine an original but old rack. Building a new rear bumper with a pair of wheel bearings to support 2 spare wheels on swing arms which will also carry the waffle boards and trasheroo. Interior Webasto diesel cooker Webasto diesel air and instant water heater kit mounted in the engine bay by moving the battery under the driver’s seat. Waeco compressor fridge 2 – leisure batteries 110A and T max tyre inflator ( along with the heater matrix ) under the rock and roll bed / seat Solar panels – not finalised yet but will probably have 3-40w flexi panels plus the existing unknown rigid panel in the roof cargo area at the rear of the pop top. Cushions and pillows and curtains of course A few more cushions probably And some nice cushions A power inverter about 1000w A big sound system to counter to tyre and road noise! |

2015 - Heading east from Europe, add your itinerary / plans
Hi,
Good idea and means to find travel cpmpanions. I will be jobless from April 2015 and so there's no pressure to be back on time :) I haven't fixed the itinerary yet. Here's my first idea.... Start / Finish: Munich User: pmcl77, swiss, male, 37 (speaking german, english, french and sapnish) Rout: Munich - Switzerland (my country of origin) - Italy - Slowenia - Albania - Bulgaria - Turkey - Georgia - around the black sea (if possible, russia/ukraine) - romania - Hungary - ... Main Dates: Start around 05/2015, no end date Vehicle: BMW R1200GS Notes: I like to take my time. I'm not only keen on riding all day, I want to experience the country and culture as well. As a matter of fact, I am keen on going for a bigger trip, even around the world. However my current bike, which I do like, is filled with electronics, hence I am hesitating to go any further east than Turkey/Georgia... So I am considering the options as follows: a) Stick to the "Europe" Tour above, return, and if I want more, get another bike and leave again (maybe fly to south americas then). b) getting another bike (something that is known for reliability like an Africa Twin or Tenere) asap, then go east, east, east.... However since I am still working till end of March I do not have time for to much planning, so starting date might be some time later. On the other hand I am really not the plan-it-all type of guy and would just focus on the core issues (insurance, carnet, security issues, and "pimping" up the bike). So More probably I will just start with option a) and move to plan b) asap after :) Best Phil |

Whilst we can still support, advise and assist you with preparing and completing all your paperwork, lodge your visa application pack to the Russian consulate on your behalf and pay for it, you will have to visit the Russian Visa Application Centre in person in order to give your fingerprints. |

How did you find Russia I am riding to Thailand in August and that is one of the routes I have read mixed reports and would welcome your thoughts ?
Safe riding Paul |
Hi Paul, I found it to be very good. Everything I'd heard read and seen on TV turned out to be nothing but lies. The people food and culture is excellent. Im actually considering moving there to live. It was a bit of a struggle with the language the first time however I can almost speak ... well enough to get by these days. Would pay to learn the bare basics. Usually younger kids .. about 50% of them can speak a bit of English especially in cities, the older they get the percentage goes down.
Driving style there is different but to my liking, they are not afraid to go as fast as the road will allow and come very close to you but dont worry they are good drivers, they have to be good otherwise they don't survive. |
Thanks I had read GrahamFields book and he didn't seem that keen ,so good to get other options it may go back into my route now

To Thailand from England
Mark
Good point I have committed to the trip now |
Paul15 the best part of my journey from India to Uk last year on an old enfield was Russia, the best, in contradition to the number of blogs I had read. Actually I was fearing going thro Russia due to bad experiences many have posted esp with the highway police. I met some amazing bikers there who exhibited warmth and generousity. Young riders are very rash but thats all individual. I would love to go back and ride there again. All the best. If you are coming to India give me a shout.

KKH
Hi everyone, I am travelling from England to India on a motorcycle starting late April and hoping to cross china on the KKH either before monsoon rains in late June/early July, or after rains in September. I would love to team up with people especially for the China section in order to lower costs of the guide and permit etc, but also keen to meet people at any stage throughout the journey, would anyone be crossing China at this time? If so, please get in touch as that would be ideal! Thanks v much, Emma

starting point
Hello all,
I made it to my starting point. Sagres in Portugal. The bike runs well, very well after a complete engine overhaul, and I have my Russian visa in my passport (thats what the agency tells me). There a lot of question marks still up for my trip, but I made it until here, so I will inshallah make it all the way. China is going to be the first problem, lets see what the agency tells me about the visa. Than its going to be Iran, I know I will manage this on my own. Last but not least, Saudi Arabia has started a war with Yemen, so lets see what this will be like when I get there in the end of the year. See you on the road mikabeer |

Ukraine.
anyone who is traveling east from Europe towards Russia and Mongolia, I am living in Ukraine and available to assist/offer accomadtion etc. During my trip to Mongolia last summer, I was hosted and assisted by many great people, and would like to do the same. I am located just outside Kiev, close to Borispol airport. I can provide good up to date information about Eastern Ukraine, routes across the country and which borders are open/best to use. I can offer camping/accomadtion, assistance with servicing, language, finding spare parts....just general support and assistance, if it's needed. Failing that, a place to park the bike, a beer, fireplace and a place to crash. One can contact me on ryanjohnhall at gmail dot com which I check fairly frequently. Peaceful, safe and fun travels... I'm fine thanks Wildman. Battered and bruised rather than broken - could have been a lot worse. Bike needs a whole new front end, it's not practical to fix in Turkey, so it's flying home today / tomorrow. With me following as soon as I know it's left.
Garage in Manchester is ready to receive it. Dave Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Sorry to hear as long as your ok that's the main thing

Dave, I feel your pain. My husband (Roynie) and I were due to ride from Inagh (in the West of Ireland) to China. We left on 26th April, but I had a really innocuous accident on a gravel road, just inside the Russian border and broke my left fibula on 4th May.
Roynie is carrying on and is now in Almaty, due join up with GlobeBusters' Ace to Ace Expedition next week in Kyrgyzstan to ride to Beijing, while I am 'resting' at home with my elderly mother in the Isle of Wight! However - and the reason I am posting here - I need to go back and collect my bike from Moscow next month, and I plan to ride east via the Trans-Siberian Hwy to Ulanbaatar and meet Roynie for the ride home. As most here will know, that's over 6,000 km, so I wouldn't be averse to some complany ... Start / Finish: Moscow / Ulanbaatar User: mrsroynie Route: Trans-Siberian Hwy: Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, Kazan, Izhevsk, Ekaterinburg, Tyumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Mariinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tulun, Irkutsk, Ulan Ude, Ulanbaatar Main Dates: 6th - 23rd July approx Vehicle: BMW R1150 GS Notes:Deliberately taking it easy and sticking to tarmac ... Links:www.inaghtochina.com or follow us on Facebook. NB If you are kind enough to think of following us on Facebook, I would be grateful if you don't mention this plan as, following the earlier disappointment, Roynie and I are keeping this one up our sleeves as a bit of a surprise for our supporters at home. bier |

2016?
Just curious if anyone is going to pick this thread up or start a new one for the same West-East travel plans for the 2016 season? I'm hoping to be in position to do that portion of my RTW trip beginning around May/June 2016.

Hi there,
I plan to leave in April 2016, as soon as the weahter is good enough to reach Venice. Start: ~April 2015 Germany-Ferry from Venice to Greece-Turkey-Ferry to Sotchi-Russia-Mongolia-Sacchalin-Japan. I would like to share the track with someone or an small group. The route is not fixed, I´m extremely flexible. :mchappy: The only date which is fixed is the 1st of aug. or before. I have a date in Tokyo:thumbup1: |
@kurvenfieber. and for the attention of everybody who will head east.
1-Trabzon sochi ferry is nomore available.you will take the sarp bordergate to georgia then kazbegi gate to russia..gate visa for georgia and armenia is available for almost all citizenships if you wish to visit them as a bonus.. 2-If you plan to go through iran, best and most safe border gate to leave turkey is doğubeyazıt/bazargan, the most northern one..It seems syria problem will continue for several more years so military operations in east and south east anatolia will continue too. All additional questions always welcome.. All the best.. |
Thanks a lot for your comments, I didn´t know the ferry was closed.
Well I would love to visit Georgia anyway. So that´s a good possibilty to visit one of the rare shelters for people with mental and/or physical challenges. A friend worked there for 1.5 years and was full of empathy for the country and the pople. |

From Tomsk, explore further the Altai and Tuva, then back track and cross Kazakhstan, then explore further Kyrgyzstan. IF time we will venture into Tajikistan and end in Bishkek where we meet with the Chris and his truck on the 15th of Sept. We fly back from Bishkek, while our bikes make it on the back of the truck. |
