Where are you going then ??

Come on then........

Where is everyone planning on going next ?

Leaving tomorrow or a distant dream ??

Personally, I've been trying to get myself on a long trip to Magadan from the UK for the last couple of years. But work commitments, cash flow and now a new self-employment venture have been making that more than difficult.

I should have done more in my twenties when I was commitment free, worry free and happy to put myself into debt :D

Well, I'm hoping to get out there in 2016 though. Fingers crossed.

Working in Cape Town in mid-December so will be renting a motorcycle and taking a few days to explore Cederberg, the Karoo and the Garden Route. The Wild Dogs ZA are offering to host me.

Also have a trip to Rajasthan in the planning for February; 7-day organised tour with Vintage Rides.

You know where I'm going :Beach:

I hope it works out for you as well and we'll be able to meet up somewhere on the road. bier

I'm much more that way now - the kids have left home (more or less), most things are paid for and I just don't care that much any more. As I'm still (relatively) fit and healthy I can do the stuff I never had time to do then.

I had thoughts of a "career" in my 20's - I wonder what ever happened to that

As I've just come back from this year's major trip I'm only at the knocking ideas around in my head stage but there will be several trips to the French Alps at various times (usually done at short notice) and we've pencilled in an early June trip to Stockholm. We could fly but I'll probably go overland as there's a few places in northern Germany I've always wanted to visit.

What I am toying with at the moment is a trip to Iran on my 125 and possibly back through Russia (if it gets that far). It'll depend on politics as much as time/money though so I probably won't do much planning until the spring. If that doesn't work out I may head to the US and meander around the deep south for a while.

I've been as far east in Russia as Ulan Ude on the way back from Mongolia. I wanted to
continue onto Magadan but had limited time on my Visa. So its still in my head to ride to Magadan, like its unfinished business. Its not the destination really, as I know there isn't much there, its all about the journey. Maybe 2016 is the year :thumbup1:

That is a good question Ted! I don't know where or what I am going to be doing in the next couple of months never mind planning for things next year or the year after
But I would like to think a lot more travelling is on the cards.
I tend to do things at the drop of a hat with only a month or so's planning. I am just taking things a bit at a time and seeing where life takes me.
On the road at the moment and loving it (although summer may have been better :freezing: but :D )
Good luck with your plans and trip

Good question. It's this time of year that the maps get opened up and pawed over on the kitchen table, whilst it's *issing down outside. I have to be realistic as I'm well past the midpoint of life and not be over ambitious. I always travel solo and do less camping than I used to. Also I'm a bit stuck on long distance/time ''outside Europe'' adventures due to certain medical needs. However, Europe is a big place- even my own back yard of France is a big place. There is also the not insignificant matter of organising the France HU meeting for next September. You may think this is far away, but I'm already working on it, so my trips over the next 10 months or so are being confined to three weeks in the Western Isles of Scotland in the late spring plus a couple of weeks in the Pyrenees/ Picos d'Europa in mid September. I would like to get back to the States and complete the 66 (LA to Chicago)which I started way back in 1986 when I was living in San Diego, but that's been on permanent hold until my numbers come up on the lottery!

Plan for 2016.

Not an overland trip as such but an extended holiday around Asia. Start with Thailand (nice and easy and touristy) then Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos. If we find a location we like maybe rent a property and convince our daughters to come and stay.

Then come back and either use the G Wagen or sell it and get a 4x4 Sprinter to do an extended trip through Europe and / or head down as far as The Gambia.
Some of that depends on how the roof tent vs. A permanent bed in the back of the G Wagen works out.

Oh and do some bike training. Bike's and me don't have a good history, to the extent that my wife won't get on the back of one.

Just need to work on my resignation letter now:thumbup1:

Morocco, or so the wife tells me...

Hahah. You are un-bearable ;)

Toyark 27 Oct 2015 16:21

I just thought it might have been you in the Yukon Ted! :Beach:

*Touring Ted* 27 Oct 2015 16:59

I love bears... Just not when they poop outside my tent door. Especially when I'm inside my tent :(

Toyark 27 Oct 2015 17:51

That makes sense.
Maybe you should ask them to respect the sign?:biggrin3:
Such levity!

AndyS 28 Oct 2015 10:51

Heading north this weekend from Perth to Geraldton (only 1000kms round trip) to give the gear, bike (and me) a shakedown.
Then heading over to western New South Wales just before or just after Christmas.
Bit different to the Euro trips you guys do of course, 8000kms round trip, and I'm still easily in the same country. Not sure if that's true overland travelling or cheating a bit !!
