This is the one thing that gets to me abou this forum, There are a lot people who are been there done that...

... it doesn't take a genius to work out that programmes put on sunday evenings are LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT produced for people who are not likely to go there. (experinced travellers are not the target audience) So what if it is a little staged and set up.

So what if these people have huge support resources (they are making a tv show) if you don't like don't watch/read/listen to it.

These programmes are likely to inspire armcahir travellers to look into how difficult these things are and see how it can be done. It inspired me, Long way down came out just after I did my CBT and I don't know whether I would of done my two short trips accross europe with out being inspired by those shows.

My winters (and they are long, believe me) are made a lot easier when I get the chance to view shows like this. The TV over here isn't that great in the first place!

I second that. I really like these shows. There are a lot of roads out there and if by chance you see a road you bin on, your there again. If you never see any of these roads in the flesh you are riding along. So either way there is something for everyone. Get into the picture or get into the saddle.

Light Entertainment? RM seemed to be trying for drama awards in every second scene.
I gave up watching the hamming antics when they were in north Africa on their second series.

F Mr F, I don't disagree with your sentiments BUT it really detracts from those who really go out there and do things on their own - as a REAL adventure, often unplanned, under prepared, underfunded and on limited means.

Hats off to them for increasing awareness but a huge boo to them for failing to ever even acknowledge the inspiration of "their idea", and en-route mentor who were called whenever lost or in difficulties - Mondo Enduro.

And more boos for all their false and duplicitious content in their 'drama' programmes.
I am seriously surprised that a certain manufacturer did not take legal action at the way they were apparently misrepresented when they had actually made a fine offer of machines and support - but I understand thier thoughts that they would not necessarily generate a good image for themselves by revealing the 'staged' phone call or content had never happened.

Meeting Raiel in Yakutia was another eye-opener to me.

I agree Mr Fox. Although there is always someone out there that has done what you are planning. It doesn't mean what you are doing is any less worthwhile and that is what you get from some people here saying they have done REAL adventure riding on this site.

Perhaps they should start a Really Unlimited Horizons Web site ?

I think that the more bikes we get out there the better it will be. I know that is certainly the case here in Aus.

If people want light entertainment and an unpretentious and interesting (IMHO) travel program (on 3 wheels, rather than 2), I suggest Billy Conolly's new Route 66 program, the first episode was aired last night on the ITV. Funny, insightful, by a man who cares.
