Jesus F^ck**g Christ
Just looked at a well known record breakers web site. Has anyone else seen how much they charge for holding your hand on a Pan Americas escorted tour? Do people actually pay that sort of money? Unbelievable!!
|
Last I heard he started with 22 but was down to 16. How do you think the missing 6 feel, having paid all that money and not lasted the first month?
Note that the above is unsubstantiated rumor, and may bear no more than a passing relationship to the truth....if that. Mark |
Don't know how much they're charging, but some people have lots of money and aren't comfortable doing stuff on their own. Who cares?
They could be spending a lot less or a lot more and lying around on a sofa or on a yacht, why should we care how they spend their money or their time? I'm sure there are plenty of people who are horrified that people on this site ride around in unfamiliar and potentially dangerous countries with no budget or backup. Some people even--gasp--wild camp! But that's just how they are, do you care what they think? |
Well Motoreiter, I think it's an astounding amount of money, and I'm astounded.....same as I am by what folks sometimes pay for their sofas and their yachts. That's ok, I trust?
I'm not trying to portray his clientele as sub-human, and I'm not trying to beat them senseless, even metaphorically; I'm merely fascinated by the phenomenon in addition to being somewhat gape-jawed at the sums involved. No doubt some of them are equally perplexed about a lot of what I do. That's ok too, right? Mark |

Sure, its all good, I just don't see why people get so excited about it.
I have no idea what they're paying, and I guess at some point I'd be shocked, but don't really care enough to find out. |

:confused1: Anyway, people are certainly fascinating, and each member of that trip probably has their own reason for going. I went on a group trip once and hated it, will never do it again. But some of the people on the trip really enjoyed it, and have been on many such trips. Frankly, I don't understand it either, but I think that spending money on a moto trip is much better than many other ways that people find to spend it. For instance, after a short walk in Moscow's shopping district you'll have seen more $5,000 fountain pens and $50,000 wrist watches than you thought possible. |

OK, just out of curiousity, how much are we talking about?
|
It's all relative, this amount of money is a lot to some and very little to others. That said, to be spending this amount of money just to 'achieve' something while people are starving in the world kind of sucks in my opinion but then again who wouldn't do it, if that was what they wanted to do?
The only way this will ever finish is by speaking to the riders themselves, until then it's another Ewan and Charlie ! |
Guys, I have no forking idea what the hell you're talking about...
|
Well, I looked at the website and, if I have the right info, I'm not so shocked.
Given that this price includes "all flights, hotels, breakfast & return bike freight". Cumulatively, those all add up to quite a bit. What is left, I guess is what you pay for someone else to do all the organising and the peace of mind of having a guide and mechanic readily on hand. Yes, it is more expansive than doing it all yourself, but not so much more. Shipping our bike there and back, our own flights and then our travel budget for two of us was about £10K, back in 2006. Admittedly we only did 7500 miles but were there for 3 months, and only in cheaper Argentina and Chile. In those terms, I don't think it is so exhorbitant. However, cramming that many miles into 2 months is NOT my idea of what travelling should be about, but that is another thread altogether. |

23k...?
£22,995....??? I must be looking on the wrong site. All I see is £9,000+ and agree with Warthog that it's not too bad if you consider all that comes with it.
Which site are you looking at..? |

My opinion: If you have the money and want to go: Book it. If you don't, don't. If you want to do the whole trip for a lot less money, read up the info on this site/forum, maybe watch the DVD on how to do it, but DO SOMETHING. Off for a ride... C |
