Do we have names for our modes of transport

Have we got names for our travel vehicles (however many wheels it may have)?
One which springs to mind is 'Maya' the KTM on the Two Moto Kiwis RT

I have decided to call my trusty 2003 XT600E 'Arrunya', its a Thai female name and I like the sound off it.

I was just curious if anyone else has names for their machines (not the ones you call it when it breaks down )

The number plate on my F800GS begins "LC..." hence, she's named Elsie.

My former bus (VW T3 Westfalia 1.9 wbx) was called BB. Short for Beautiful Bus :) Best car I ever had and miss her ...

My VW Golf MkII was called Flaming Death. I was convinced I was going to die in that car someday.. bought it for 50 bucks on the scrapyard and got me around Europe for three years without an issue!

On my RTW trip my old r100gs had different names as we went along...

At the start: Helga (German and functional)

Then: The Wife (After an Ethiopian policeman informed me that BMW stood for Be My Wife)

Then: The ex-Wife (after it broke down once too often (gearbox exploded, shocks exploded etc) )

And finally: Goaty (as in The Old Goat: We developed a rider/ridee relationship: I promised not to crash and it (she?) promised not to break down...)

My Moto Guzzi is called Cheryl;

Registered in Newcastle ( like )
Has two big things stuck out to attract attention
Said things now contain plastic parts
Makes noises many consider antisocial
Many of you would fancy a ride but consider long term ownership problematic.

:innocent:

My F800 is called Passepartout. There's the obvious literary reference - my companion / load barer on my travels. Also, I'm reliably informed that in French, passerpartout translates as goes anywhere. I thought 'go anywhere' seemed suitable for gelande straße!

Its tall, ugly, stubborn and noisy - and it doesnt always do what I want my Yamaha XT660Z and therefore it reminds of a lama. Thus its name is Llama.... :scooter:

And while I ride it I can sing the Neil Young song: "Ride my Llama"

My Thai girlfriend calls my new Explorer, "Mia Noi" Thai translation roughly means mistress

I met a German fellow in Puerto Vallarta, who rides a GS1200. He asked the usual questions about my trip, and when I told him I had travelled there from New Hampshire on a WR250r he was shocked!
" You travelled all that way on a Lawn Mower !?! " (in a thick German accent)
I've called it " The Lawn Mower " ever since. Der Rasenmäher

The beak of my Beemer 650 twin is bright red and I'm sure it glows in the dark. As this transport of delight has carried me many 10/thousands of kilometres without a hiccup, I'm sure it has magical qualities, so I call it ''Rudolph'' the red nose beemer. ( sad i know, but it works for me!)

All my bikes and scooters have names - it's a tradition that started back in my misspent youth, as the bikers I hung out with back then had names for their 'scoots'.

My VT750 Shadow Aero is called 'Noora', meaning light - as in daylight - in Arabic. What else would an ol' bedouin saddletramp like me call his jet black motorsickel?

My Vespa 50S (see photo) sports its name on the legshield...

My XChallenge is called Tante Anna, because she has such a deep sound like the old Bi-Plane Antonov AN2, also called aunt Anna:cool4:

R80 GS Basic deserves "The Geezer". An individual with questionable morals and mechanical reliability coupled with an ability to survive and suprise.

Safe travels,

Peter, in Oslo
