Broken rear shock in Medellin! Help/advice needed

Hey guys,

We are stranded in Medellin, Colombia on our klr650. Rear shock is dead...

We are trying to order a new Progressive Suspension 465 in the USA. We have found a shop with a good price and USPS shipping.
BUT
We read that USPS in Colombia uses the local post service and we have read worrying things. Shipments take up to two months sometimes or get stolen...
So we're very hesitant about using USPS.

We found out that there are private companies that do shipping from America to Colombia which seem a lot more reliable. We are still waiting for a price and time quote on that.

Another option is finding someone who will be flying from America to Colombia (preferably Medellin, but not that important) who would be willing to take the shock with them. We are willing to pay ofcourse! If anyone is flying the next week or so, or knows someone... Please let us know!

Do you guys have more ideas, information, advice? This is our first time in Latin America, bought the bike 2 weeks ago so we're still figuring everything out.

Thanks,

Wout and Jasmijn

PS: If this topic doesnt belong here, please tell me where I should post it :thumbup1:

I would try and get the shock repaired locally if possible, you may end up paying import duty on a shock and as you have mentioned, sometimes shipped items may not arrive on time or at all. The KLR shock is not too advanced to be repaired easily with the correct equipment and knowledge.

See this thread for moto shops in Medellin including Moto Angel:

Good Luck!

Ask a policeman they seem to have lots of bikes like yours

Thanks for the response!

We were at a suspension shop saturday and the shock is beyond rebuildable...

A new one from Kawasaki is the fastest option, but also 1000 bucks

So the best option now is a Progressive 465.. Just need to get it here safely.

Were still trying to find someone who is flying from America to Colombia, but if we dont have someone by tomorrow evening we will ship it with a private company. Shipping price is okay, were mainly scared of the import tax...

Beyond rebuildable? In Colombia? You're talking to the wrong people.
