The Western route seems to be impossible at the moment due to the fact that the Nigerian embassy in Bamako is no longer issuing visas and that the route from Niger to Chad through Diffa is too dangerous right now.

HOKIJO 30 Nov 2017 13:27

According to Wikipedia, Gabon has introduced a visa on arrival policy since October so it is possible to get the visa at the border. It did not say how much it would cost.

Does anyone know if the Guinea Conakry Embassy in Bamako is still issuing visas? If so then how long/much?

gino_mas 8 Dec 2017 18:41

Hey Bartosz!

Sorry we never made it to Poland to see you, but time was against us. I'm starting to do all of the plans for Africa. We plan to enter Morocco in early March. What are you planning? - Gino (moto brother from Valdivostok)

Based on what I'm seeing, maybe it makes sense for us (US passports) to get our Mali visa ahead of time and all of the others along the way. Going Morocco to South Africa, so if anyone advises that I get other visas while at home, please let me know. I appreciate all the help with locations, time tables and prices that everyone has already provided.

Hello seeb,

I never saw your name or a country, where you come from ... Alian?

The embassey "De La République De Guinée" is still there, where it is the last 20+ years ago in Bamako and still offers visa for a horrible price (about 120tCFA) for 1-3 months.

Got this message the other day (Ozzie national, northbound):

FYI - got the 30-day Angola visa at the Rundu consulate. I had a letter of invitation, but I don't think it was strictly necessary. In the end, pretty hassle free.

Nigeria Visa Update

Unfortunately, we were not able to get our Nigerian tourist visa in Morocco. We did everything we could, including writing a letter to the Ambassador and Consul.

I spoke with the Consul today and she was adamant in her refusal to issue a visa to people who are not Moroccan citizens/residents. Even though I explained that we left the US 9 months ago and, at the time, did not know we would be visiting Nigeria (which is actually true. I guess I didn’t pay enough attention in geography class.) She mentioned that an Australian tried to get a visa here a few weeks ago and she told him the same thing..Wish I'd known that a week ago. Her only recommendation was to return to the US and get the visa.

I've read a few people saying that Burkina Faso wasn't issuing them anymore based on "new rules". Probably better to just get this one before you leave home.

We will try again in Dakar and let everyone know what happens.

!!!!!!! IMPOSSIBLE !!!!!!!

In the spirit of overlanding this is a share from the Overlanding Association and Overland Sphere. This is not bull this is FACT. We are now writing letters to governments and have already been engaged at a high level. We have a Politician on our side that's a personal friend of one of the Mods on our Africa Group.

This changed on the 5th March. Seemingly there's been a bit of transition but this is now FACT. It's not negotiable. You will not get one in ANY EMBASSY EXCEPT the one in your HOME COUNTRY.

Yeah sure hahaha. Believe that and you'll believe anything. Wouild you like to buy some magic beans?

Don't think the VTE exists any more.

I had email exchanges with Benin embassy in Barcelona in Nov '18 saying (a) they don't do the VTE any more (visa entente, they referred to it as - think it's the same thing), (b) they don't offer visas in Benin embassies any more (I took it they meant generally, not just in Barca) and c) the only visa now for Benin is an e-visa.

Malian visa in Nouakchott: 1 month single entry for ~€15 (650 Ouguiyas).

A post on a facebook group from November 5 said it's still possible.
(This was not me)

"VISA ENTENTE IN OUAGADOUGOU
Just to let people know, it is still possible and very easy to get this visa in Ouga.
The cost is 25k CFA and you need two passport photos. You go to the main passport office in the morning and collect the same afternoon."
