Traveling through Central African States

Hello, I need first hand infomation about traveling through the Central African States. My bike is currently in Ghana and I would like to ride to Uganda. Looking at the Foreign Office web site travel advice, only a mad man would atempt the straight line between A&B. (Don't worry my mother told me 50years ago, with love, that I had issues) So not being the full shilling I need to speak to others that have done something similar. So is this is a great idea as I believe or the second most stupid thing I've ever done (I'm married).

Hi Davey Bee

There was an article on The Bike Show about some guys that did it supported. Look for "East to West Across Africa" on you tube.

There was a guy who rode the classical west-east route from the 1980s in 2017: from Bangui to Zongo, then on terrible tracks to Bukavu and into Rwanda.

I've almost no experience in Africa but am looking at west-east routes for a future trip all around Africa.

From what I understand it's not impossible but you need to be on top of changing security concerns, terrible road conditions, outbreaks of disease, civil unrest... the list goes on.

If you are an experienced traveller who does not mind some degree of risk, who can negotiate frustrating bureaucracy, deal with corrupt, money hungry, obstructive police, keep on top of local news and preferably speak French, I would say you have a good chance. If this is a new hobby, maybe start somewhere else.
