Cool looking bikes, Mike.
Some feedback on the neck braces would be great. I'd like to know how comfortable they are for extended use; especially in hot weather.
Have a great trip.
Stephan
PS Which brace model are you wearing?

Alexlebrit 30 Dec 2007 11:51

That is still a massive list... I wish I could work out what we're going to take to russia - but frankly the way it's going I think I'll end up with just a spare pair of pants and a beer can in case I forget the side stand puck.

Stephano - we are both riding "Club" braces from Leatt...i put it over my riding jacket with my hydrpak over it and it all felt very nice and comfortable last ride i had...like it wasnt even on me...very enjoyable for the extra safety....

Not real money, but ive got 50 'points' says the guitar gets dumped or smashed before day 21!:oops2:

Best wishes Dudes.... (your gonna need it! with all that gear....)

Martyn

palace15 31 Dec 2007 20:46

Do me 50 points for a ditched guitar before day 15 please

Enjoy the trip but why did you copy the packing list from Ewan and Charlie?

Read trip reports ASAP from Chris Scotts Adventure motorcycling website and see how many people advise TRAVEL LIGHT.

Now why do people ask for advice then ignore it, it's beyond me, you probably had reservations about your list or you would not have thought to publish it.

One thing I deff would have kept...the harmonica, I have one but can't play the bloody thing :helpsmilie:

Frank Warner 31 Dec 2007 23:12

The post office is your friend ... as you travel you'll find stuff you don't need .. either give it away or send it home. If you think you'll need it in say 2 weeks time .. post it to yourself about 1 week onwards .. and pick it up there .. saving carrying it, or throwing it away and buying another one later.

A word on the nuts and bolts .. common ones can be bought along teh way .. teh unusual ones may be made at a local machine shop .. the ones you need are those that prevent forward (or even reverse) progress... those are the ones to carry.

Dingo 1 Jan 2008 01:27

Omg!!

Hey there,

You still can't be serious? Trash at least half of it for your own sakes. You are going to ride Africa so you don't need any comforts, get them when you get back. You will appreciate them even more when you return.

Don't forget what happened when you first rode in sand, mud, bog? And this you did without any additional weight on the bike, remember?

And don't forget to think about the bike, I failed my suspension carrying approx 50 - 60 kg in Kenya. Now I don't take anymore than 30 kg with me (Max).

It's Africa, you don't need all that gear and if you do get a local to make it for you.

Anyway good luck to you guys. I am near Tarime in TZ if you come through this way, I will buy you a beer.

Cheers
Ivan

Hey Ivan, just about EVERYBODY has given these guys the same advice!
This is one time you cant put a "wise head on stupid shoulders" there is gonna be a trail of stuff scattered across Africa that some local Guy is gonna be very grateful for.... although what an African is gonna use a neck brace for i cant imagine! ( they look a little 'hot around the collar' to me),

I don't think Mike and his Dad have really thought this one out too well, I WISH THEM BOTH ALL THE BEST and would give anything to have done a trip like that with my Dad, but I hope for the both of them, they listen to SOMEONE before they finally go and just DUMP HALF THAT GEAR!

Good luck guys - actually looking at that photograph above there isn't that much stuff - it's just spread out isn't it! :innocent:

You guys will be just fine - part of the adventure is getting there and discovering whilst you do have your guitar you have in fact forgotten the side stand puck (cough).

Is it an expensive guitar? Is it a travel guitar? If it's cheap and not a travel effort I give it 4 days!

If I took any kind of musical instrument to Russia I'm sure Stace and Patrick would make sure it went 'missing' in the first 4 days.

I fixed the above to make it read correctly Matt! :thumbup1:  Tadah!!

Remember the above posted by Mike? well if it Titanium, its not cheap, but its metal so he can still stamp on it, fold it in half and use it as a side-stand puck!
