Have you ridden across Africa? Check in here!

I thought it would be useful to have a thread where riders who've done a trans-Africa trip (or who are currently on the road) can check in and/or post a link to their blog. This should be a useful resource for people who are planning trips of their own, and also useful for knowing who is currently on the road.

Please post your route, when you started and finished, as well as a link to your blog if you have one. Also, if you know of any blogs by people who've done the ride, please post those links. Cheers!

I'm half way through - left Joburg in April and went through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda and now i'm sitting at Jungle Junction in Nairobi fixing up the car (old Toyota Hilux - i know, not a bike ;) ), waiting for Ethiopian visa and planning the Northern Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Jordan and Israel.

I'm posting video updates with b-roll from the road on Trekking Pole | Cape Town, South Africa to Deadhorse, Alaska and regular updates on https://www.facebook.com/trekkingpolecom .

I will be here for the next two weeks (wonderful broadband!) and happy to answer all questions people have on routes, conditions, parks etc.

I also want to go to Ethiopia through Maralal, Lake Turkana and Omo route but will be more comfortable doing it with another car alongside.

The word out here is that the conventional Nairobi to Moyale road is almost all tarmacked and simply... boring. On Turkana route you can see the lake, camel derby (!) and stand on the edge of the Great Rift Valley. Anyone interested?

Hello Jordan,

I am leaving Spain heading South in ten days.

Looking for info about VISAS, only worried about the really difficult ones, have read horrible things about entering Angola.

Any tip from you with the countries you have passed so far?

Currently in West Africa

I'm in west Africa right now. In Togo. My blog address is at.

Congo-Zaire or Bust. Adv Riding across Africa.

My advice for anyone thinking about this route is get your DC visa at home as well as your Nigerian. I was very lucky and got my Nigerian visa but my travel partner has been denied now 3 times. We only have Benin to try if this does not work he has to send him poss port home.
Because the area has become a little unstable it the north of Nigeria they have clamped down to make it harder for people to cross.
DRC has also changed its rules in last 4 months and we might be sending passports home for visas. Even as an Australian with no embassy at home I've been denied 4 times. All said get visa in Europe.

Hope this info helps.

Are you still at Jungle Junction. Been there a few times over the past 3 months. Now down on the Mombassa south coast. Driving a Landrover and been trekking around Kenya for some time now. Left Durban end Dec 2014 and also Hoping to travel further up North towards Egypt, Israel etc. recently returned from the Maralel Derby and Lake Turkana area... rough going if leaving from Maralal to Baragoi. Let me know if you're still around then can make contact for further discussion
