been there, done that

Yeah, I lost my balance while sitting on my Harley and tried to hold it upright with one leg -- Herinia -- dumb as hell I know. I thought I had just pulled a muscle. This happened shortly before a planned trip from North Carolina to the Panama Canal,
Not wanting to miss the trip I did not go to a doctor and went on the ride anyway. Can't say it was a mistake to go, it just hurt all the way there and back. Had the operation after I got back.

If you have time get it fixed and back on your bike in time to go -- do it -- I don't remember how long before I got back to riding but I don't think it was too long. 3 or 4 weeks???? ---- go carefully and listen to your Doctor. --- we all heal at a different rates.

You aren't supposed to ride or drive until you have been discharged by your consultant, this can be up to 6 weeks. to do so would invalidate your insurance. You should lift nothing heavier than a kettle of water for upto 3 months, or risk re doing it. that means no panniers, no getting your bike on it's centre stand etc etc.

Hernia repair

Hi Andy,
Yep I had one a couple of years ago and was up and running in weeks.
I had the damage repaired with mesh thats stapled around the hole. Through our national health, UK. A faster recovery time than the old style cut and shut, could take months.
Sorry for late advise.
