Honduras/Nicaragua Borders
I'm going across to Nicaragua from Honduras tommorow evening. Any suggestions as to the best crossing point?
|
I used the northern point (road goes to Estreli I think)- it took less than 2 hours. I am told that the road is in better condition than the southern one favoured by those coming straight from El Salvador.
Hope this helps! Matt |
Hey Ian,
How is it? Never heard of any problems getting out of Honduras (only getting in), nor getting into Nicaragua. Usual complicated process made easier by tramitadors. There's compulsory insurance ($15 or so) that some riders like to bitch about, but everyone pays. I crossed by Esteli - easy as you like. Cheers, Dan Walsh |
Hey Dan.. stayed in the Bay Islands even longer than you and just about to qualify as a diving instructor of all things. Who knew?
Heading south for a break from the drinking.. Ian |
One other thought on this one following Dan's mail. The insurance can be paid in local currency or US dollars but I remember the saving was pretty significant in local currency.
Probably too late for you Ian but maybe good for someone else. [This message has been edited by mattpope (edited 25 June 2004).] |
Hey Ian, How is it? Good work, mate. I'll email. Still in pinche Quito, waiting for pendejos aduanas to release my spares...Only been er two months. Puta madre.

Dan, have you tried contacting the Quito Community, especially Ricardo to see if he can help? This seems ridiculous, and we are currently getting some action from the government on the Carnet inconsistencies problem - see http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/cou...or/protest.php to add your name to the protest - so perhaps this too can be sorted out.
