buying in chile / peru / equador

hi,

Planning on flying in to Quito and make my way south through the countries mentioned then on to arg nad finishing in Brazil.

My plan is to buy 400 or 650 over there. Would there be an advantage of buying in one country over another? I know theres loads of stuff on buying and registering on the forum but where would be best to buy?

I then plan to sell. Again theres stufff here about selling where it was bought etc? Would it be possible to buy in chile / equador then sell in brazil?

Thanks

David

Chile is the most straight forward place to make a purchase. Simply get a RUT number, make your deal, get a power of attorney document. Apply for title (perdron). Do a search for details on the process. Be prepared for astronomical prices.

Do a search for details. You can purchase in Peru fairly easily, but won´t be allowed to leave the country with the bike. For Ecuador contact the Quito HU community.

Another option is to buy from a traveler. Simply do a Power of Attorney and away you go.

If you buy in chile, you will have to sell in chile, unload the bike for 1/4 or less of the its value as parts or sell to a traveler using POA. If you return to Chile w/o the bike, you may have problems.

My 400cc Honda Falcon enduro is for sale here:

In my experience it was easier to purchase in Bolivia than in Chile, if you purchased new here then you would have all of your papers in 2 days and be ready to ride away. Second hand will take about 5 days and then you have all of the original documents in your name. Total cost for paperwork transfer is about $60-$70.

Also I have the same bike as Glasswave it's a great choice, really reliable and parts are everywhere. Keep the oil changed and the motor is bulletproof. Although it doesn't look like it, the NX400 is a good choice for riding off-road. Would be worth considering his sale in my opinion.
