I do completely agree with Chris:
Considering the dangers of Darfur (there MIGHT be a convoy, but most probably you will be refused to take that route in the first place), there are the uncertainties of Tchad, then - coming from Ndjamena - Northern Cameroon, Northern Nigeria or Niger with all its Boko Haram and AQMI groups running around, then Ebola in West Africa, the situation in Mali (not even to mention the recent coup in Burkina ...). So why would you consider this route with all its hassles when there is a new border crossing between Sudan and Egypt which seems to be finally operational, an apparently running ferry from Egypt to Turkey and the fact that Khartoum right now seems to be the one place where you can still obtain a Saudi transit visa? Greetings, Achim |
Hi friends:
Thanks for your replies. Our idea was, if we could reach Ndjamena, to cross into Niger round the north of Lake Chad, to Nguimi and Zinder; from there to Niamey and Burkina. Josu ta Ana |
Hi Josu - it's a bit Boko Haramy around that route.
BBC News - Niger hit by Nigeria's Boko Haram fallout (from April 2014) News of a Hilux with a pair of toubabs inside will precede you by days. Better to go from NDJ down to Cameroon and through the middle of Nigeria then up. You will find better info on the sub-Sahara forum. Burkina - who knows how that will be by January. And now robberies on the Mali-Mori border... Egypt looks better and better. |
Hi friends:
We have been to f*****g Egypt before, and when we finally managed to get out, we promised ourselves: NEVER AGAIN |

I just left Egypt and have a totally different experience. I never felt more welcome, I never heard so many people saying "Welcome, welcome to Egypt!", thumbs up, shaking hands, waving, walking up to me for a chat; children, adults, police at checkpoints. I was there far too short, due to circumstances, but my experience was a very positive one. In Alexandria - waiting for my car to be shipped to Rotterdam - I was offered an apartment by friends of Omar's (Mansour) and stayed there with my dog for three days. Such hospitality! Just another sound… Cheers, Gee |
