So what happens when you arrive with no insurance? DO they turn you back to Spain? Or are they not checking for it?

European motor insurance with "green card" is also valid in Morocco, so no big problem?

I guess one should be able to get this EU insurance in Ceuta as well, then head to the border?

So where can you go to get the insurance needed to get into Morocco if you don't have a green card with you at the border in Ceuta as 8 of us are off there next Wednesday and 4 are leaving Norway this Thursday night so dose not leave them much time any help :confused1:

So when did that happen?

I crossed just a few days ago and there were TWO banks/Exchange and Insurance next to them.

...There are 3 areas/lanes/compounds [whatever you call them] and the offices of bank and Insurance are in the middle one.....not easy to see at first glance.

Can't beleave they would close bank/exchange offices.......In their interest to keep open.

You'll probably find your insurance company will cover you for an extra little premium. They will need to send you an updated greencard though. Carole Nash covered me for Morocco for not an awful lot (although I can't remember the exact amount) and, whilst I wouldn't wish to pass comment on Moroccan insurance companies, your own insurance company may even pay out in the event of an accident.

I'm just trying to check this out with my insurer.

I live in Spain and insure my Land Rover 110 (UK registered) through Abbeygate insurance. I enquired about allowing the vehicle into Morocco and they say you are only covered for the minimum legal requirement in that country which is not the same level of cover I have for Spain.

Since I don't know what the minimum legal requirement is for Morocco I've asked for more details and am waiting for a reply.

Rebaseonu: European green card is only valid if it specifically mentions MA.

Dakota: that will be third party only--no comprehensive, no fire, no theft. Most green card cover for Morocco is on this basis.

"Our Man" [member of staff] crossed into Morocco 5 MINS AGO, ahead of the main group of 15 vehicles that crosses tomorrow, and changed a big lump of E's into Dhm's. He called into Insurance office to double check as a few of the group need insurance tomorrow.

It could be that the confusion was that whoever was looking went to the first exchange office on the EXIT side...That is often closed and where there is no insurance office....

As Tim says, they keep changing layout and order of things but noth changes re bank/insurance, go to Lower Middle Lanes, first two offices are banks/exchange....4th office is insurance.

Yes, all countries are enabled unless your insurance agency has crossed some over (marking as not valid).

One can check his green card, countries are lised on the card.

Well I got in through Nador without insurance. My insurer here would not provide any cover for Morocco so I was resigned to buying it at the port when I arrived. I went to the two 'shacks' that are the Insurance offices but both were closed-it was Sunday. One had a mobile number to call which went through to a guy who knew nothing about insurance and suggested I call back in an hour or two. Anyway I then went to the Immigation post to get stamped in and was sent by them to the Customs who just asked for my V5/Carte Gris and that was it. Took 45 mins at most.
I got insurance the next day at Wafa Insurance in Guercif at half the advertised price in the port. The port price for 1 month was (from memory) 1,500 Dhm; I paid just over 700 including taxes for my truck.

Incidentally, Nador is far, far easier than Tangiers with no hassle, no touts and pleasant helpful officials. Only problem is that the boat we went on from Almeria was food-free and indescribeably noisy so I didn't sleep a wink.

Taking care of insurance before heading to Morocco
 

I've been in Morocco with my CBR600 on three ocasions.

On the first two (2005/6) I specifically asked to my insurance company for a so called "Morocco extension", since the MA symbol on the green card was crossed. It cost me around 50EUR for 2 weeks.

This year I changed my motorcyle insurance company and, guess what, it is cheaper and Morocco is included by default (as well as travel support by Europe Assistance). :thumbup1:

I know though that some portuguese insurance companies are relutant to sell the Morocco extension, specially for dirt bikes if travel support is included.

I drive a 4x4 but love this site.

I went through Ceuta last November. I had UK insurance but my Green Card was in Shoreham.
The Lady dealing with my papers insisted in Arabic that I have a Green Card. I explained In French that my UK insurance covered me for various countries including Morocco but had not been given a green card. Not exactly untrue they had sent it too late.
She explained that I could not enter without a Green Card. I was saddened by this and wondered how we might proceed. I told her of my last visit and how much my wife and I had enjoyed it.
After a little while (now speaking French and I'm convinced that she also spoke English) she wrote out a Green paper for me which was acceptable to the police and did later serve some function when they were giving me a speeding ticket.
All in all I found the Moroccon officials polite and constructive. There were a few likely lads around who attempted to add a little colour to proceedings. Generaly speaking the whole outing was fun.

Hi All,

Spoke to the Moroccan Embassy in London (+442075815001) yesterday. Very helpful and concerned about this rumour. They said that tourism is very important to them and phoned Casablanca to find out what was going on. They rang me back within the hour to confirm that the banks and insurance office are still open.

Some UK insurance companies still won't issue Green Cards for Morocco or Tunisia even for an extra fee (NFU will!)

We're off to Maroc again on the 20th!

I can't get green card cover for morocco, my insurance company is to lame, not even for a premium, I have no option to pay at the border...

The next person to drive through can they reassure me I can still sort it?!
