NFU do green cards free if you have a policy with them.
If not buy at the border, its about 950dH for 30 days 3rd party if I remember correctly. |
Hi Raoul:
I don't have personal experience buying Moroccan insurance at Nador, but I was in Nador last month as part of a tour I did around Morocco. I do remember a rather huge lineup of shops and booths at the border crossing from Nador into Morocco... it is a very busy border crossing (and not at all a friendly looking one, relative to Tanger Med). I think there is a very high probability that you will be able to buy Moroccan insurance at that border crossing, but I can't back that up with facts. The Warden mentioned that insurance is about 950 DH for 30 days. I believe it is also possible to purchase a 14 day cover for about half the price. It's the same price for motorcycles or automobiles. We have another discussion going on here concerning a Canadian who is shipping his motorcycle by air from Toronto to Casablanca, and his efforts to organize an insurance policy purchase in Casablanca ahead of time. Have a look at that discussion, because it give you the name of the largest Moroccan insurance company that serves the tourist market, and it also has links to all their agents (hundreds of them) in the country. You might want to contact that company ahead of time and ask them to recommend you to an agent at or nearby the Nador border crossing. Here's the link to that discussion: Air Canada Cargo ship M/C to Casablanca. Michael |
Have a look at this post with a map:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...937#post570788 As well as the following post. Frontier insurance comes in 10 days, a month or 3 months and costs the same for bikes or cars. For Europeans, no probs but afaik it has become near impossible for a UK motos to get a green card extension on their regular insurance, compared to a UK car, etc. And even if you find a separate short-term insurance policy, I bet it will cost more than Morocco – like the £200 you got quoted. |
Thank you all for your advice.
Great book by the way Chris! Funnily enough I got a call back from MCE the other day. Given all the Brexit uncertainty they have just started to issue Green cards to customers travelling abroad. They asked for the exact dates and a detailed itinerary. I guess i'll have to wait until it arrives in the post before i'll know whether it covers Morocco. Otherwise, i'll take your advice and just buy insurance at the border. Raoul |
Good to hear the book's handy, Raoul. Don't forget the updates page.
I'm pretty sure a new regular GC won't cover Mk unless you ask. It's an EU thing replacing the TPO cover we get now for free. |

We weren't allowed out of [Nador] port without buying insurance there. I was a booth in the main hall 50-100m walk from police kiosk. The guy told us it was around 20 euros more expensive than in the town, but we had no choice, and it was all very official (AXA printed docs). Don't remember exact price, maybe 140 euros for a month? |
Here is my information arriving post-covid in Nador (May 2022).
The bike is registered and insured in Germany, and like UK we don’t seem to get Morocco insured on our green card. I was with some other riders from the Netherlands, which had Morocco on their green card. I did not ask for insurance inside the harbor. I was heading for the AXA office at the first roundabout AXA BENI ENSAR https://goo.gl/maps/JKpbvnryPxz442Kn7 However, the lady told me they don’t sell the “assurance aux frontieres” at this office, she sent me to the city of Nador to buy it there. So off we went, along the way we bought our SIM cards at a kiosk, very helpful guy and all three provides available. I recommend Maroc Telecom. This is the location: 35.26066332838804, -2.939184404617492 https://goo.gl/maps/ugW9dSXoFMWChE3N8 In Nador I went to several different AXA offices, all of them told me they don’t sell the insurance and sent me to a different location. Finally, I found an office, very helpful and kind ladies which spoke good English. All in all, it took less then 30 minutes. Price for one motorcycle for one month was 967 MAD. There is an ATM close by, 30 meters from the AXA office. Here are the details: Assurances Al Karama, 35.17668489625116, -2.930439370127533, https://goo.gl/maps/4FksBzc1fM5Q4h2j8 I hope this helps! Take care and save travel! |
Nador Insurance Update
Anyone got an update on the insurance process in Nador? I arrive at 7pm so there is no chance anything will be open.
My assumption: 1. Ferry arrives, disembark 2. Immigration 3. Customs - but don't have motorcycle insurance 4. Get motorcycle insurance 5. ?? Do you need to go back to customs again once you have insurance ?? |
I've never been asked for insurance when leaving a port, certainly not by Customs. They just want your vehicle ownership document to issue a TVIP.
If there is none at Nador port, try the Melilla / Beni Ensar border post nearby, things may have changed back. Then overnight and see if the Axa in town on the map above can do it. Hope that helps. |
This is interesting I hope to arrive around about the fifth of November so I will keep an eye on this, Thanks

CAT Assurance have an office there, details on the website. They are the best only company authorised to issue insurance for foreign vehicles.
Don’t be tempted to drive/ride off without it. Penalties are severe if caught with valid insurance |
An update on this thread, as of November 2024 - I've just written the following for the Trans Morocco Trail site, which provides information on the Melilla-Beni Ansar crossing, including insurance.

2025 Update
Hey everyone,
I arrived in Nador today (14th March 2025) and have just bought insurance from Assurances Kadaoui, 46 Avenue Med V, Nador. I took a pic of the shopfront but don't know how to upload it here. Cost is 100 euro for one month, 200 euro for three months. All that is required is your ownership/reg paper, passport, driver's licence, and the little Admission Temporaire card that you receive from the Douane office at the port upon arrival. It was quiet in the office when I arrived, and the process took about 15 minutes. Very friendly staff. |
Assurances Kadaoui, 46 Avenue Mohamed V, Nador, I presume.
Wpt more useful than a photo, tbh. Is it 35.18008, -2.9256? If someone can verify, please do so. tvm |
